    A’Ibom council area unveils group for Tinubu, Akpabio, Eno’s re-election

    Abak local government area in Akwa Ibom state has formed a political structure to mobilise grassroots support for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu.

    The group, Grassroots Generals for Good Governace (G4), is also to work for the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Umo Eno and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the area.

    At a new year meeting at Wonderland in Abak, group consisting of prominent personalities from all walks of life, pledged to ensure electoral victory for the APC in the 2027 general election.

    National coordinator of the G4, Dr. Emmanuel Udosen said that Abak local government area gave the highest number of voters to Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election in the state 

    Udosen promised that the G4 would replicate and even surpass the 2023 record by ensuring that it mobilized more votes for Tinubu, Akpabio and Eno in the next election.

    As the group plans to set up structures in the wards, units, villages, with a clear mandate to begin the mobilization process. 

    “We are working with the Governor’s directive given at the last Stakeholders meeting on voters registration and voter cards collection ahead of the 2027 election.

    “We are insisting that G4 should take the lead in mobilizing the grassroot for this exercise in order to increase our voting strength in the 2027 elections. 

    “In the 2023 election, the APC in Abak LGA, gave the highest number of votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio.

    “We pledge that the numbers will triple in the 2027 election because of the prevaling unity amongst the leaders in the state,” he said .

    He commended the Abak local government Chairlady for her leading role in the voter registration exercise so far and called on other stakeholders to support the exercise in order to increase our voting strength in the 2027 elections. 

    Dr Emmanuel Udosen also through the general voice votes affirmed the  appointment of BOT members, with Prof. Nkereuwem Etukudo as BOT chairman.

    Others include lady Ime Charles, chairman of council, Hon. Udeme Ottong speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Aniekan Umana, commissioner for information.

    Members of the BoT also include Sir. Nkereuwem Ebong, Engr iboro Johnny, Hon. Friday Iwok, Obongawnan Nene Ime Umana, Hon. Mrs Ekemini Umoh, Hon. Joseph Ikpaisong among others

    Eno nominated for national excellence awards ‎

    ‎Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has been nominated and is set to attend the Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS) where he will receive the Distinguished Award for Excellence in Sustainable Development and Community Empowerment.

    The ceremony will take place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

    ‎His nomination was communicated in an official letter signed by M.S. Danjuma, FCNA, Permanent Secretary (General Services Office), on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

    According to the letter, the award will be presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, at the high-profile national event organised by The Best Strategic Media (TBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

    ‎This recognition highlights Governor Eno’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, and inclusive governance. It further underscores the impact of his ARISE Agenda particularly in rural development, agriculture, security sector support, public service productivity, and the upliftment of vulnerable communities across the state.

    ‎Over the past two years, Governor Eno has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most decorated serving governors, earning multiple prestigious recognitions for good governance, transparency, infrastructure expansion, media openness, and people-centric leadership. His latest honour adds to a growing list of awards that reflect increasing national and continental affirmation of his leadership approach.

    ‎Among his recent recognitions are the Nigerian Guild of Editors’ Excellence Award for Good Governance, which highlighted his transparent and media-friendly disposition; the Social Media Governor of the Year Award by NISMA for effective digital communication; and the Governor of the Year (2024) from Leadership Group Limited for outstanding progress across key sectors.

    ‎He was also named Best Governor of the Year (2024) by the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), cited for fiscal responsibility, responsible planning, and meaningful grassroots impact. His steadfast support to security agencies earned him the Most Consistent Security-Supporting Governor Award from Security Watch Africa Initiative and an Award of Excellence from the Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom Command.

    ‎On the continental front, Governor Eno was recently honoured as African Governor of the Year (Infrastructure Development) at the African Business Leadership Awards in London, recognising significant achievements in urban renewal, rural infrastructure development, water sector reforms, and strategic planning.

    ‎As Governor Eno heads to Abuja for the NEAPS ceremony, many observers note that this latest recognition not only celebrates his leadership but also places Akwa Ibom firmly on the national map as a model of steady, people-focused development.

    Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to harnessing the state’s cultural and tourism potential as a key driver for economic growth and development.

    Speaking at the flag off of Christmas Unplugged 3.0 at the Christmas Village, Unity Park on Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, the Governor said the State was advancing in its tourism development. He said the approval of an international status for the Victor Attah Airport is equally a booster for the sector.

    “Tourism for us is becoming our middle name. As a State, we have advanced the cause of tourism. From the hills of Itu to the beaches of Ibeno, to the relics of Ikot Abasi, we are developing tourism in Akwa Ibom. We are using the things that God has given us. 

    “Ibom Air is opening the way. As you heard the other day, the Victor Attah Airport is now designated as an International Airport, and we are doing all we can to tick all the boxes to ensure that we expand tourism. 

    “We can move people within the sub-region. We are building slowly our tourism potentials. In the next 32 days, we will be relaxing, engage in different activities and having fun, local government by local government, starting from Abak, the Speaker’s Local Government.

    “He will be leading the contingent, beautiful contingent, dressed out with their culture, looking good, as they come out to display the rich culture of Akwa Ibom State. 

    “We are waiting to receive everyone. Akwa Ibom State is ripe, and this is where it will be happening in the next 32 days, back to back,” he said.

    Eno called on Akwa Ibom people and tourism lovers around the world to take advantage of the season to relax, enjoy and savour the rich cultural heritage of the State. 

    “We invite the world to the land of promise inhabited by hospitable people to have a taste of our rich culture, our cuisine;  the Afang soup, the Edikang-ikong, Ekpang nkukwo, the fisherman soup and nice beaches to relax and have fun all around. Ibom Air will fly you in, and fly you back,” stated.

    He assured participants and visitors of a hitch-free celebration, explaining that top notch preparations have been put in place in terms of security and medical emergencies and other logistics to guarantee a successful hosting of the 32 days Christmas Unplugged 3.0.

    Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his passion for tourism development in the State.

    He described Governor Eno as the torch bearer for tourism development in the State, saying that his vision has transformed the State to a choice destination and thanked him for the support granted him to interpret his tourism vision as contained in the ARISE Agenda.

    Speaker Udeme Otong appreciated the Governor for his tourism drive which, according to him, was engaging the youths and growing the economy.

    He said the State legislature had observed the Governor’s commendable focus on tourism, adding that the proposal for tourism development in the 2026 budget would be given the necessary support to advance the cause.

    Head of the State Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Anietie Peters, commended the Governor for his welfare packages for workers, adding that the 13th month salary will enable workers to actively participate in the Christmas Unplugged 3.0 celebration.

    Delivery Advisor to the Governor on Tourism, Sir Charles Udoh, recalled that the event was the Governor’s vision born three years ago,  stressing that the fiesta was positively transforming the tourism sector and the economy of the State.

    Chairman of the state chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, and Chairman Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, expressed confidence in this year’s edition of the programme, and commended the Governor for the steady growth of the fiesta .

    He noted that this year’s event will surpass previous editions and thanked the Commissioner, Delivery Advisor and other drivers of the event for their commitment to interpreting the Governor’s vision, and assured that local government chairmen will collaborate effectively with them to ensure a successful outing.

    Eno flags off youth-friendly centres in Akwa Ibom councils

    Governor Umo Eno has flagged off the construction of youth-friendly centres across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom state 

    He said the centres  marked a significant milestone in the implementation of his ARISE Agenda, particularly its focus on human capital development, innovation, and inclusive growth.

    According to the Governor, the initiative is not merely a brick-and-mortar project but a strategic investment in the future, a network of creativity, learning, and empowerment designed to transform the potential of young people into productive ventures.

    In Uruan Local Government Area, Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, and the Commissioner for Housing, Dr Henry Archibong described the project as “a promise made and a promise fulfilled.”

    He explained that the initiative falls under Aspiration 2, Articles 5 and 6 of the ARISE Agenda, which focus on Wealth Creation, Employment Generation, and Youth Skills Development.

    According to him, the programme is designed to enhance skills acquisition, innovation, and inclusion, creating new pathways for young people to thrive in today’s competitive global economy.

    “Our goal is to ensure that every Akwa Ibom youth has access to opportunities that can change their story. These youth-friendly hubs are not just buildings but engines of creativity, innovation, and enterprise,” the Governor stated through his representatives.

    In Etinan Local Government Area, where the governor was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Ubuo Ubuo, he reiterated that the administration places high priority on harnessing the potential of young people and equipping them for a progressive and productive life.

    Ubuo expressed optimism that the new centre will not only enhance interaction and capacity building among youths but also ensure sustainable development and, in turn, boost the local economy.

    In Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, the Governor was represented by the Special Adviser on Co-operative and Rural Development, Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong, who explained that the project is designed to create platforms where young people can thrive, gain relevant skills, and contribute meaningfully to the State’s socio-economic advancement.

    “The Youth-Friendly Centre is conceived as a space for skill acquisition, mentorship, and innovation,” she stated, emphasizing that the centres will serve as incubators for creativity and entrepreneurship.

    In Urue-Offong Oruko, the Special Adviser, Bureau of Political and Social Re-Orientation, Barr. Kufre Udosen, described the project as another testament to the governor’s avowed commitment to youth development and empowerment.

    Also, in Itu Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, described the project as part of the government’s effort to provide inclusive spaces where young people can acquire skills, build capacity, and channel their energies productively.

    He further explained that the centres will promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and positive youth engagement, adding that it aligns perfectly with the governor’s drive for a self-reliant and digitally skilled generation.

    At Ikono LGA, Princess Emem Ibanga, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to delivering on the ARISE Agenda, saying that the initiative underscores Governor Eno’s vision of ensuring that every youth has access to opportunities that improve their lives and foster self-reliance.

    In Mkpat Enin, Prof. Ubong Umoh, Commissioner for Education, said the governor’s policies are now being translated into tangible, life-impacting projects* that will connect and empower young people across the 31 LGAs. He emphasized that the centres will harness the energy and creativity of the youth to drive development across the State.

    At Eastern Obolo, the Governor’s Political Adviser, Akparawa (Dr.) Godwin Ntukideh, stressed the importance of acquiring digital, vocational, and entrepreneurial skills to sustain livelihoods in a fast-evolving world.

    Similarly, in Nsit Ubium, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, noted that the hubs are “not just buildings but safe spaces and innovation centres designed to equip youths with skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive both locally and internationally.”

    At Nsit Atai, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Rt. Hon. Inibehe Silas, highlighted that the centres will feature ICT hubs, e-libraries, incubation units, co-working spaces, and creative lounges facilities that will enable young people to develop essential 21st-century skills and build sustainable careers.

    In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Pastor Imo Bassey, who represented Governor Eno in Oron Local Government Area described the Youth-Friendly Centre project as a critical milestone in the implementation of the ARISE developmental blueprint, stressing that it is not a political gesture but a deliberate and strategic investment in the future of Akwa Ibom youths.

    He noted that the network of centres across all LGAs will serve as a bridge and resource hub for youths and other members of society to leverage opportunities, expand their horizons, and contribute meaningfully to community and state development.

    Eno orders immediate repairs of inner roads in Uyo

    Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has ordered the immediate repairs of failed portions of inner roads in Uyo and other major towns in the State.

    According to a statement by Commissioner for information, Aniekan Umanah, the Governor intends to ensure improved infrastructure and seamless mobility for citizens and residents across the state.

    Umanah said the government is aware of potholes that have affected some roads due to heavy rainfall and storm water in recent weeks.

    He assured the public that as the rains subside, rehabilitation work will begin in earnest to ensure proper and durable reconstruction of the affected portions.

    “The Governor has directed that the Ministry of Works should carry out a comprehensive assessment to determine the extent of potholes in Uyo, preparatory to full-scale maintenance and overlay work.”

    He noted that the Umo Eno administration, in line with the Infrastructure Development thrust of the ARISE Agenda, remains fully committed to ensuring the maintenance and sustainability of public infrastructure.

    He emphasised that, beyond the construction of over 964 kilometers of new  and inherited roads  and bridges currently ongoing across the State, Government is also focused on routine maintenance and rehabilitation of existing roads to enhance mobility, safety, and the overall urban outlook.

    The Commissioner further informed desilting of drainages and clearing of blocked water channels were ongoing in various parts of Uyo to reduce flooding and prevent further damage to road infrastructure.

    He appealed to residents and motorists to exercise patience and understanding, assuring that Government will continue to respond promptly and responsibly to infrastructure needs across the State.

    Akwa Ibom  State governor,  Umo Eno has declared a state of emergency on the health sector after reviewing his administration’s healthcare development roadmap.

    The move is to accelerate reforms and ensure efficient healthcare delivery in line with the administration’s ARISE agenda.

    The Commissioner for Information, Mr Aniekan Umanah, disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting held at Government House, Uyo, yesterday.

    Umanah said key directives under the emergency include an expanded upgrade of medical facilities across the state.

    He added that the reopening of the healthcare recruitment portal to engage 2,000 workers was approved, with voters’ identity card requirement for applicants waived.

    According to him, the governor also directed the upgrading of health training institutions, fresh enrolment of professionals, and the engagement of retired but willing medical personnel on contract.

    The commissioner said government also announced the constitution of an Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee, comprising representatives of relevant ministries and agencies.

    He explained that the committee would ensure prompt and effective implementation of the emergency measures.

    The executive council also proposed a supplementary budget bill of ₦695 billion.

    Umanah said the budget comprised ₦125.66 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦569.33 billion for capital expenditure.

    The state’s main budget earlier stood at ₦995 billion. With the supplementary ₦695 billion, the 2025 budget rises to ₦1.65 trillion.

    “The supplementary budget will provide for the new minimum wage, personnel emoluments, and allowances for NYSC members serving within and outside Akwa Ibom.

    “It will also address flood and erosion control, complete inflation-affected projects, and fund new infrastructure construction across the state,” Umanah said.

    According to him, it will also fund Ibom CNG Mass Transit buses and support newly created Ministries of Sports, Digital Economy, and Humanitarian Services, among others.

    He said provisions were also made for the Tree Crop Revolution programme, construction of housing estates, and renovation of the House of Assembly complex.

    The commissioner added that capital allocations will also cover the acquisition of a new aircraft for Ibom Air and development of the ARISE Shopping City.

    Eno reaffirms commitment to sports development as A’Ibom Sports Festival opens

    Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing sports as a tool for youth engagement, empowerment, job creation, and tourism promotion as the 2025 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival opened in grand style at the Uyo Township Stadium.

     The colourful opening ceremony, themed “Nurturing Talents, Promoting Tourism”, featured thrilling music and entertainment, a march past by contingents from the 31 Local Government Areas, and the lighting of the Festival Torch of Unity.

    Represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Governor Eno said the Festival was a fulfillment of his campaign promise to invest in sports development and prepare Akwa Ibom youths to compete and excel globally.

    “Sports today is a multi-billion-dollar global industry, and we must discover new talents, grow and expose them to the right opportunities and platforms,” the Governor declared.

     He cited international sports icons with Akwa Ibom and Nigerian roots—Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong of Etinan descent, WBO Heavyweight Champion Moses Itauma, and NBA Coach Ime Udoka—as proof of the greatness that can emerge from local communities when talents are nurtured and supported.

     “There are many more of these great sports stars waiting to be discovered, and this Sports Festival is aimed at identifying and grooming such talents who would one day fly the flag of our State and bring us laurels,” he affirmed.

    Governor Eno noted that for the first time in the State’s history, his administration has created a stand-alone Ministry of Sports, headed by renowned journalist and sports administrator, Elder Paul Bassey.

     He further announced ongoing investments in world-class facilities, including the Ibom Sports Academy in Eket, state-of-the-art equipment for training and competition, and sports infrastructure at the ARISE Resort in Uyo, which is set to open in December with facilities for golf as well as indoor and outdoor games.

    He stressed that the provision of modern facilities would help rewrite Akwa Ibom’s story in national and international competitions.

     “As the theme of this Festival boldly states, ‘Nurturing Talents, Promoting Tourism,’ we are deploying every aspect of our popular culture—from music and sports to culinary arts and heritage—to position Akwa Ibom as a destination of choice for sports and tourism,” he said.

    The Governor urged the over 3,000 athletes competing in 18 sporting events across Uyo, Eket, Ediene Abak, and Aka Community Secondary School to showcase their talents, embrace the spirit of sportsmanship, build friendships, and win laurels as a foundation for future glory.

     Commissioner for Sports and Chairman of the Ministerial Organising Committee (MOC), Elder Paul Bassey, hailed the Governor’s vision, describing Ibom 2025 as a strategic platform to scout, nurture, and showcase talents for global opportunities.

     The 2025 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival will run until Saturday, September 13, serving as a springboard for talent discovery and positioning Akwa Ibom as a leading hub for sports and tourism in Nigeria.

    Governance with a human face: Umana praises Eno’s performance

    Former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana, has commended Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State for what he described as a “human-faced approach to governance,” applauding his achievements in workers’ welfare, pension settlements, and business empowerment.

    Speaking at the grand finale of Governor Eno’s Town Hall Meetings with the people of Etinan Federal Constituency in Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium, Umana described the event as a carnival of love and validation of the governor’s leadership.

    “You have approached governance with a human face. Pensioners are happy, Akwa Ibom workers are happy, business people in the state are happy with the grants and business support. Your Excellency, you’ve done well,” he said, to loud cheers.

    He highlighted ongoing projects including the upgrade of Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort, the ARISE Park project, Ibom Tropicana, and other tourism-linked ventures, noting that Akwa Ibom is fast becoming a national destination of choice. 

    He also cited strategic investments such as the Ibom Tower in Lagos and the hotel project in Abuja as visionary moves with long-term impact.

    Umana praised Governor Eno’s empowerment initiatives, particularly the ₦361 million intervention for farmers and traders in Etinan Federal Constituency, describing them as practical steps toward inclusive growth.

    Other stakeholders, including Senator Effiong Bob and the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence Ntenyin Solomon Etuk, endorsed the governor’s performance and urged continuity, with traditional rulers pledging their support and prayers.

    The highpoint of the day was the symbolic presentation of cheques to beneficiaries by APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, an act many described as proof of the governor’s broad acceptance.

    Eno urges old students to support Alma Maters

    Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno has called on well- placed individuals to contribute their quota to educational development through supporting the growth of their alma maters.

    Speaking at the special quarterly meeting of Victory High School Old Students’ Association (1981 set) at the school’s hall in Ikeja, Lagos, Governor Eno said the social attainment of individuals are credits to the positive nurturing by their Alma Mater, and must be  duly referenced by them.

    He emphasised the need for qualitative education, stressing that under his leadership, Akwa Ibom State was building model primary schools across the State as well as model secondary schools in the three Senatorial Districts to ensure the impartation and qualitative delivery of comprehensive and  sound education to Akwa Ibom children.

    The Governor said his decision to physically attend the meeting which was held within the school premises, was intentional not only to reunite with old school mates but also to have a feel of the environment which played a crucial role in shaping and distilling him to what he is today.

    Eno appreciated the leadership of the association for keeping the flag of the school flying, and also appreciated God for blessing the set with different classes of people including a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), captains of industry and other well- placed individuals.

    He appreciated members of the association for the award of grand patron on him, their support during the Governorship election, and during the funeral of his wife, the late Pastor Patience Eno, and assured them of his continuous support and commitment to the activities of the group.

    In his speech, the President of the Association, Pastor J. K. Abiodun, said the meeting was basically to deliberate on how to move the association forward and to also confer on the pride of their set, Pastor Umo Eno, the position of Grand Patron of the group.

    Eno as their Senior Prefect, said it was nostalgic having old students reassemble from all over the country.

    He enumerated the different achievements of the current leadership of the association which he said came on board few months ago, and assured that with the cooperation of members, they intended to do more to impact on their Alma Mater.

    Other speakers including the Global President of Victory High School Alumni, Taiwo Salami,  commended the 1981 set for their coordination and for shining the lights for other sets to follow.
