  • Comedian Helen Paul bags PhD

    Popular Nigerian actress and comedienne, Helen Paul has bagged a Ph.D in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos.

    Paul is also a stand-up comedian, popularly known as Tatafo, characterized by a voice range that makes her sound like a child, is the first among her Nigerian colleagues to bag a Ph.D.

    The comedian, who is also a singer announced the news on her Instagram handle, @itshelenpaul on Friday, March 29, 2019.

    “Can’t wait to wear my beautiful gown on Thursday. Special thanks to the University of Lagos, for finding me worthy of this great position as the first Nigerian stand – up comedian to have a PhD (Please argue with the gods) #helenpaul #drhelenpaul.

    “ MIGHTY Thank You to God almighty for using my mentor and teacher as my supervisor (Prof. Osita Ezewanebe), mama tough no be small, days of crying, fasting, waking up at midnight to pray and even swearing, then asking myself questions like Helen Paul Who send you?

    “To my husband, Papa thank you for your encouragement, your words are sweet ( do it jor, babe face that fear, I can’t wait to see a doctor as my wife every morning).

    “ You are all invited to the University of Lagos as my convocation is on the 4th of April.     Paul has worked as both a freelance and full-time presenter at several media houses in Nigeria including Lagos Television (LTV 8), Continental Broadcasting Service (CBS), and MNet (where she currently co-presents “JARA” on Africa Magic).

    She broke out as a naughty comic character on a radio program known as “Wetin Dey” on Radio Continental 102.3FM, Lagos and popularly known on the programme as “Tatafo” – a witty kid that addresses and lampoons societal issues in a satirical manner.

    She is a recipient of several awards including the 2012 African Film Awards, 2012 Exquisite Lady of the Year Award , 2014 Female TV Presenter of the Year, TV Presenter of the Year (Jare, Africa Magic), 2014 Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) – Outstanding TV presenter (Female) (Entertainment/Talk Show.

    Others are 2012 National Institute for Cultural Orientation, 2009 Exquisite Lady of the Year Award, Female Comedian of the Year, 2012 Effizie Style and Effects Awards, 2012 Sacramento Productions – Children’s Entertainer of the Year.

    African music superstar and Marvin Record’s first lady, Tiwatope Savage-Balogun is now the new face of Star Lager’s citrus variant, Star Radler.

    The popular Nigerian singer on Friday night celebrated the new multi-million naira ambassadorial deal with a surprised live perform show in Victoria Island on Friday.

    Tiwa Savage was joined onstage by the energy Gad, Do2dTun, Limpopo king, Kcee, DMW star, Peruzzi and DJ Sose for the surprised out-door show on Friday night.

    The endorsement which has made Tiwa the first female brand ambassador for the brand comes just two months after Burna Boy was also announced as Star Lager beer’s brand ambassador.

      

    The brand studded fans show comes few hours after releasing her own cover of Kizz Daniel’s single “Fvck You”.

    It was right there on-point and blaring blazer for music fans that trooped out for the night hangout party.

  • Davido, others set to perform at Dreamland Festival in U.S.

    Popular Nigerian artist David Adeleke, popularly known as ( Davido ), will be performing at the Dreamland Festival alongside with some renowned artists.

    The event will be holding at the Dorothea Dix Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, U.S. on April 6.

    The organisers made this known on the festival’s official Instagram page @dreamville, where they listed the instragram handle of the artists.

    According to report, the event was supposed to hold on September 15, 2018, but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence.

    A lineup of other artistes slated to perform at the festival are: J. Cole, SZA, Big Sean, 21 Savage, 6LACK, Nelly, Teyana Taylor, J.I.D. Rapsody, Cozz, Saba, Earthgang, Ari Lennox, Omen, Lute and Mez.

    The 26-year-old award winning artist has made great influence in the entertainment industry.

    Recently, He had set a record of being the first Nigerian artist to reach one million, two million, five million and nine million followers on Instagram.

    His 2017 hit song, ”Fall” became the first Nigerian music video to hit 100 million views on YouTube.

  • OMONI OBOLI lashes social media trolls

    WHILE it is not really clear who Omoni Oboli is hitting at, it is obvious the toe of the mother of three boys has been stepped on.

    On Wednesday, the actress and movie producer lashed from her Instagram.

    “If all you do with social media is troll people and spread bitterness, you are of all men, the most miserable,” she wrote.

    “People are busy making money.”

  • World Wizkid Day: Fans eulogise music star on Twitter

    Thousands of fans have taken to Twitter to list Wizkid’s achievements under the hashtag #WorldWizkidDay.

    News Agency of Nigeria reports that #WorldWizkidDay is the number two trending topic on Twitter at the time of this report with fans eulogising the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer.

    The trend started after videos of his interview with a US radio station went viral. The hosts of the show were starstruck and attempted to take photographs with Wizkid while the interview was ongoing.

    Following that, more videos of his career milestones flooded the timeline. These included his O2 show, his major interview as an upcoming artist, his iconic visit to a racially diverse London high school and his declaration at Minnesota.

    Fans also took the opportunity to share their most iconic Wizkid moments, best songs from the singer and the traits he is most loved for.

    The music star is also the first African artist to walk the runway at a Dolce and Gabbana fashion show while his music `Soco’ played at the background.

    Wizkid started recording music at age 11 and managed to release a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed.

    Ace Nigeria singer and celebrity, Simisola Ogunleye aka Simi has released a new single of the audio to her new song “Ayo.”

    The audio of the song which was produced by legendury Beatz talks about the singer’s expression of joy forever and request for better things to come.

    The new song ‘Ayo’ in Yoruba dialect, which translates to ’Joy’ was the singer ‘s first solo single for the new year after her joint single with her husband and singer Adekunle Gold.

    The music star song expressed thankfulness to God and looking forward to good things and greater expectations to her new song and marriage.

    The afro-alternative song contained lyrics of her speaking of the joy and God’s blessing for her and her entire household this year.

  • Chris Brown arrested over rape accusation in France

    R&B singer, Chris Brown, has been arrested in Paris following a rape accusation by a 24-year-old woman.

    French officials said Brown and two others were currently in custody after a woman filed a rape allegation in northwest Paris after meeting her in a nightclub, Fox 5 news reported.

    The arrests were first reported by French tabloid Closer, which said the three were arrested after the woman alleged she was raped at Brown’s hotel suite on the night of January 15.

    Police said one of the others held is Brown’s bodyguard.

    The singer was arrested on Monday and remains in custody while police probe the complaint.

    The woman is said to have followed the singer to his hotel room where the incident allegedly occurred.

    Prosecutors in the French capital confirmed that the 29-year-old faced criminal charges after the alleged sex attack a week ago.

    “He is accused of a rape and is being held at the judicial police offices in the 1st arrondissement,” said a prosecuting source.

    “He was arrested with two others on Monday, and interviews and other enquiries are ongoing. The offence is said to have taken place on the night of January 15 this year.”

    The complainant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said she met Brown at a nightclub and then returned to his hotel with other women and a total of three men.

    “The woman said she was abused by Brown, a bodyguard, and a friend, and then she was left alone with the star,” said another source in Paris.

    “A total of three men were arrested at Brown’s hotel. They did not resist police, and now have lawyers representing them.”

    Brown’s publicists at Sony Music would not immediately comment.

    Femi Otedola’s first daughter, Tolani has released the official music video of her latest single ”Ba Mi Lo” featuring Singer Reekado Banks.

    Tolani, Cuppy’s eldest sister dropped the official video few days after the new song, “Ba mi Lo’’ was released on her instagram handle @shestolani #BaMilo featuring @reekadobanks.

    “Ba Mi Lo,” which means “Come With Me” in English language, is a song that speaks on how everyone has that person they obsess about but they are not sure the feeling is mutual.

    The 2 minutes 45 second video was directed by Aje Films.

    Although there have been speculation by fans that the duo were dating, when their photos first appeared on various social media platform, the video showed that they were actually working on this new record.

    The female singer and songwriter, was raised in London England, provided her with an opportunity to soak up two rich cultures which is evident in her music.

  • Singer Falz begins year with hit single, ‘Talk’

    Ace Nigerian singer and rapper Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has started the New Year with the release of his single tagged “Talk”.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the video of the song, which is directed by Prodigeezy, features Falz driving alongside his guys with different scenes relating to the lyrics played out.

    ‘Talk’ is a socio-conscious record that addresses critical happenings and advises the youths to be wary of ‘greedy politicians.’

    As the 2019 general election draws near, the artiste uses lyrics of the song to address critical leadership issues and advised Nigerians, especially the youths, to speak up for what they truly want.

    Falz, now popularly known by industry watchers as a ‘Music Activist’, had earlier hinted fans that he would release an album titled ”Moral Instruction” on Jan. 15.

    He said of the album: “There is a dire need for us to redefine the concept of humanity and morality.

    “There is a pressing need for re-education and re-orientation of the people, for this is the only way we can restore sanity.”

    NAN reports that Falz, a lawyer turned singer, began his professional career as a music artiste in 2009, and currently owns an independent record label called Bahd Guys Records.

    He is the son of Femi Falana (SAN), a Nigerian human rights activist and lawyer.

    The music artists came to limelight after his song “Marry Me” (featuring vocals from Poe and Yemi Alade) won him a nomination in the “Best Collaboration of The Year” category at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

    In 2018, Falz released a controversial audio/visual song “This Is Nigeria”, a mock-up of American rapper Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”.

    It addresses societal issues prevalent in Nigeria, including SARS brutality, codeine abuse, and killings in some parts of the country.

    The video of the song highlights the nation’s issues especially violence and corruption in politics, policing, and religious bigotry.

  • Tee Mac, Kemen mourn late DJ XGee

    Some celebrities on Friday mourned late Disc Jockey, Seun Omogaji, popularly known as DJ XGee, who died on Jan. 2, 2019.

    They told the News Agency of Nigeria in separate interviews in Lagos that the death of DJ XGee’s and others before him meant that depression was real and becoming rampant in the country.

    Omogaji, who allegedly committed suicide by gulping an insecticide, “sniper”, was said to have had some marital problems with his wife for about six months.

    NAN reports that the deceased wrote a note on his Instagram page, shortly before committing suicide.

    Omogaji, in the note, said, “Okay, there is a twist to this last respect people give to their loved ones when gone. Black is a sign of sadness but in my case, please rock white because I love the colour so much.

    “To all that I have made to smile and to those I have pissed off, trust me, I’m only being human.

    “Enikorewa, I love you so much; Eriayo, your name sums it all up; you are truly the reason for my joy.

    “Omobolanle Ajoke, you know I care; Moradeke, my mum, may my God heal you; and to my in-laws, stay blessed always.”

    Dr Omatshola Iseli, popularly known as Tee Mac, commiserated with the family and fans of the deceased, describing the incident as pathetic.

    He said that from the stories that surrounded the late DJ’s death, depression was suspected to be the problem he could not cope with.

    Tee Mac, however, called on Nigerians to seek for better ways of handling depression while alive, as suicide was not the solution to it.

    “This is quite sad, and it is known that a lot of people are depressed in the society right now.

    “As many people are depressed, I want them to know that suicide is not the solution, but seeking help at the right place and time.

    “I give my condolences to his friends and family, and I pray his soul rests in peace,” he said.

    Also, ex-housemate in the Big Brother Naija, Ekemini Ekerette, known as Kemen, said that the DJ’s death was a sad one, and it called for a sober reflection.

    He urged Nigerians to love and care more to groom healthy relationships, and should not give room for depression to thrive.

    “This is an indication that depression is real, and we must love and care more so that we do not encourage depression.

    “The greatest healer of all wound is love; so, let us encourage brotherly love.

    “I don’t know DJ XGee personally, but with the stories I have heard that led to him committing suicide, that is my advice for us all.

    “ May God repose his soul,” he said.
