  • Nnamani and Enugu APC

SIR: I have watched with keen interest, the politics of my party APC, Enugu State chapter. The truth is that the impetus of the party to grab power from the state ruling party was clandestinely marred by the governor, through meddling and compromising some of our supposed leaders.

These known compromised party leaders are not interested in the politics of the state, because they have no elective interest nor do they still command relevance in their respective wards, not to mention the local and state governments. They serve God in the day and romance with the devil in the night for the mundane gifts offered by the devil. They end up without a defined character, but wisdom is warning men of goodwill to beware of such men. They can sell you for a little pot of porridge.

I will illustrate with an incident that happened Saturday February 3, in Sen. Ken Nnamani’s Amechi home, in Enugu. A reconciliation meeting was conveyed by the supposed elder statesman and party leader to get all warring members for a discussion. His call was respected by notable party leaders such as former governor, Sullivan Chime, Minister for Foreign Affairs,  Geoffrey Onyeama, Chief Osita Okechukwu, Chief G.N.G Mgbazuagu, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, to name but a few.

Shortly, before the roundup of the meeting, as some of the leaders were exchanging farewell pleasantries, a political blunder happened: Right, in the same compound was the governor with his aides. At what point did he arrive?

Senator Nnamani’s dance with God and mammon is well known to all party faithful in the state. His assignment is to make sure that the state party is on “motion without movement “. This attitude of a supposed leader has affected the psychology of the party faithful who have watched with utter disgust the deceptive game to the detriment of the silent majority.

He has taken enough for the owners to know his shenanigans; time to call the stray sheep to contrition and penance for his many sins to the party.

In the day, he poses as APC (federal), in the night he is PDP (state).

How can we trust a man who negotiated with the governor for a local government slot in his local government on the ticket of PDP?

How can we still trust a man, who negotiated his ward for a PDP councillor, and cunningly went to court to challenge his creation?

How can we trust a leader, that the enemy is his best buddy and political ally?

How can you trust a leader, who has no party interest than his self-interest?

How safe are you with this leader to share confidence

Senator Ken Nnamani does not have the moral impetus to convene a meeting of APC of any sort or size.

He has lost the privilege of a respected party leader. It is better if he nicely let go of APC and enjoy his unholy romance with PDP.

A dance with a mamba is a dance of death. We have to stand against these shenanigans and get our great party on a fast track in the state.

Enugu ÀPC candidate defects to PDP

Ahead of the November 4 Enugu State local government election, a councillorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Godwin Onyebuchi Eze, of the Owerre Umuoyo Ward in Nsukka Local Government Area, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Eze said his defection with some of his supporters to the PDP was “because of the credibility of the Nsukka PDP chairmanship candidate, Chief Patrick Omeje, and Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi”.

He added: “Governor Ugwuanyi is doing a marvellous job in the state, which I can no longer resist.

This is why I am crossing over to the PDP with my supporters.”

Receiving the new members, Nsukka Local Government Area’s PDP Chairman Fabian Onah said the party would accord the new entrants every right and privilege entitled to all party members.

Onah said: “We are happy with you and your team. We are going to give you full protection and rights with other PDP members. You are now a full-fledged member of the PDP.”

Omeje said he was happy that Eze, who is said to be APC’s strongest candidate, had joined the PDP.

“I am assuring you that you will enjoy all the rights of party members,” Omeje told Eze.

The chairmanship candidate added that the PDP in Nsukka would continue to ensure that other opposition members joined PDP.

Enugu APC excited by Nwoye’s confirmation

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated Mr Tony Nwoye on the confirmation of his ticket as the party’s flag-bearer for the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

The party also congratulated him for choosing Dozie Ikedife (Jnr.) as his running mate.

It described Nwoye’s choice as a “master stroke” which would give APC victory in the election.

One of the 10 aspirants Nwoye defeated in the governorship primary, Senator Andy Uba, had petitioned the appeal panel, alleging that the primary was marred by fraud and widespread irregularities.

The appeal panel allegedly recommended that Nwoye be dropped.

This raised tension over the primary, which was led by Borno State Governor Ibrahim Shettima and adjudged as free, fair and transparent.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC), after considering the report of the Appeal Panel last Monday, upheld Nwoye’s victory.

The state’s APC Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Kate Ofor, congratulated Nwoye for surmounting the “booby traps” put on his way by some elements allegedly working for Governor Willy Obiano, who is seen as Nwoye’s major contender.

The APC candidate shares the same Federal constituency and Catholic faith with Obiano.

Expressing Enugu APC’s support for the party’s candidate, Mrs Ofor said the confirmation of his ticket was a landmark for the party to defeat the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The APC chieftain said APC’s mission is to rescue Anambra State from Obiano.

She added: “It is high time Ndigbo joined the mainstream of Nigerian political stream and re-enact the ageless lessons of Nigeria’s first President, the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the Great Zik, who thought us how best to engage in national politics.

“The Great Zik admonished us to always play in the premier league, not the minor league. We are tired of lamentation of marginalisation in a country where Ndigbo towers high in the human development index and prosperity index.”

Enugu APC protests Fed Govt’s ‘lopsided appointments’

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has protested what it called the lopsided appointments by the Federal Government.

The party noted that most of the appointments went to one local government, Udi, beginning from the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geofrey Onyeama, who is from Eke in Udi Local Government Area.

It said the appointment of Loretta Aniagolu, a cousin to the minister from Eke into the board of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and also one Uzo from Obinagu, Udi.

The party frowned at the appointment of Dr. Joseph Ilo, from Egede in Udi Local Government Area, as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

These, the party said, were besides earlier appointments of Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku from Egede in Udi Local Government Area as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Justice Reforms and Osita Okechukwu, from Eke in the same local government area as the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON).

The Enugu APC said it had concluded plans to formally petition President Muhammadu Buhari and Senate President Bukola Saraki on the appointments to ensure that those who suffered for the party get their rewards.

Addressing reporters yesterday after a meeting of the party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) in Enugu State, the State Chairman Dr Ben Nwoye said those making the recommendations for the appointments do not have the interest of the President at heart.

Enugu APC: allow Buhari to fight graft, revamp infrastructure

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s plan to revamp the nation’s dilapidated infrastructure, fight corruption and use the state’s coal to generate electricity.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mrs Kate Offor, the Enugu APC reaffirmed its unequivocal endorsement of President Buhari for a second term in 2019.

The statement reads: “President Buhari should be allowed to actualise his laudable programme of revamping our dilapidated infrastructure, stamping out corruption and using the Enugu coal to generate electricity.

“We wish to inform the media to disregard the malicious statements issued at times on behalf of Enugu State chapter of the APC by unauthorised persons. The truth is that the authors of such statements had been suspended for anti-party activities, fictionalisation and breaking into the state chairman’s office and carting away vital documents.

“They are yet to show remorse or repent for their outright breach of Section 21(5) and (6) of APC’s constitution. They remain suspended and should not be dressed in borrowed ropes.”

The party said it was at “a loss about how the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, after series of advice by stakeholders, was still associating with unauthorised persons allegedly working to hijack APC’s structure in Enugu State, to feature the 2019 presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar”.

It added: “Therefore, the major sin of our state chairman, Ben Nwoye, committed is his resistance to this obnoxious ambition to hand over APC structure to Atikur Abubakar. No wonder the minister is singling out Nwoye in his so-called probe of party finances, especially when he was neither in Enugu during the elections nor participated in APC affairs before his appointment.

“In sum, it is ironical that while many Nigerians are condemning the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Hassan, when she made an open support for Atikur, little did they know that …Geoffrey Onyeama is covertly pro-Atiku.”

  • Enugu APC Faults Call For Onyeama’s Sack

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Enugu State chapter, has dismissed recent calls for the sack of Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, saying those calling for sack of the minister are political fugitives with deformed minds.

The factional chairman of the SWC, Mr. Adolphus Ude, who made the call yesterday in Abuja during a press briefing said,  APC in Enugu state neither took such decision nor asked the suspended state Chairman, Ben Nwoye and other stalwarts of the party to address press conference on its behalf to call for the sack of Onyeama due to abysmal performance in office.

Ude stated that the party celebrates President Muhammadu Buhari and his entire cabinet for the numerous achievements the administration has made,
adding that the foreign affairs ministry headed by Onyeama has removed the country from the previous shocking levels of impunity, arrogance of power and corruption that have dented Nigeria’s image before the coming of the APC administration.

He noted that the minister had carried out far reaching reforms that Nigerians are currently benefiting from.

“Hence, we make bold to say that Enugu APC is proud of the foreign affairs minister and his legacies which we hope will be immortalised in the anal of Nigerian history,” he said.

He added, “for the records, in 2015 the image of Nigeria internationally was in a deplorable state with very high records of institutionalized corruption and impunity. The foreign affairs minister took conscious steps to change that perception and within a very short period he restored the country to its pride of place among the comity of nations.”

In a similar vein, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to India, Maj.Gen. Chris Eze (rtd) urged President Mohammadu Buhari to dismiss call for sack of the Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, adding that the suspended state chairman Ben Nwoye has no locus standi to call for the sack of the minister in the name of APC.

Ambassador Eze however disowned Nwoye’s statement on behalf of the Enugu state chapter of the APC, saying the suspended state chairman spoke for himself not the party.

He therefore appealed to other leaders of the party in Enugu state to step out and prevail on Nwoye to use more discretion and civility in his language to the minister.

  • Enugu APC backs Mbaka over comment on Jonathan’s govt

Enugu APC backs Mbaka over comment on Jonathan’s govt

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka’s recent stand on the suffering of the masses.

In a message, the fiery cleric had criticised former President Goodluck Jonathan for running down the nation’s economy and inflicting suffering on Nigerians.

He said: “It is not easy everywhere. Hunger is everywhere. Hunger is in the atmosphere. There is a sword moving about in the country. People are dying like flies. The sword of hunger is eating the land.

“The past Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government was a grasshopper and a locust to Nigeria. The past government was a disaster to the land of Nigeria. The past government was cancer to this country. There is no need to cover its incalculable and iniquitous mess.”

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Kate Ofor, the Enugu State APC reassured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari would restore the country to the path of progress.

The statement reads: “Let us once more salute Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, the crusader of the masses, liberation ideologue and Head of Adoration Ministry, Catholic Church of Enugu State, for speaking truth to power, as evidenced by his unrelenting attack on those in power and his memorable prediction of President Buhari’s victory on January 1, 2015.

“We wish to reassure Fr. Mbaka that President Buhari will not, in the fullness of time, disappoint Nigerians or fail to fix our dilapidated social and physical infrastructure. Never! Buhari is devotedly committed to pull Nigerians out of poverty, hunger and squalor.

“For us, yesterday …is the architecture of today. Nobody can wish yesterday away. Therefore, Fr Mbaka is correct in stating that the past regimes sowed the whirlwind we are regrettably reaping today. If the $16 billion expended on power supply was prudently expended; if the three Greenfield refineries awarded on May 13, 2010 were not dead and fund decayed in the sand; if the $8.3 billion spent on the old gauge Lagos-Kano railway were for standard gauge; if the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt, Second Niger Bridge the and other federal roads’ funds budgeted were not eaten by locust; if the funds meant for Enugu Coal were nor embezzled and if the billions budgeted for our schools and hospitals did not grow wings, hunger could not have been in the land; unemployment could have been drastically reduced and our prosperity could have been guaranteed.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State and, by extension Nigeria, feel the pains and pangs of hunger, feel the gruesome hardship and abject poverty ravaging the land. We are not immune to hunger nor the gross unemployment dislocating our youths.

“To be candid, in our closed-door meeting with Mr President, he disclosed that he was aware, concerned and worried about the sordid economic situation. This is why he is waging strident war against corruption. His solution is to effectively and prudently implement the 2016 and subsequent budgets to fix the decayed infrastructure.

“On the issue of being slow, Mr President pointed out that the 1999 Constitution, the Procurement Act and other extant laws make it impossible for any official to expend funds not appropriated by the National Assembly. Otherwise, he could have dipped his hand into the trillions budgeted and hit the ground running.

“It is pertinent to inform as well that Mr President is embarking on economic diplomacy, travelling the length and breadth of the globe, utilising his huge goodwill to attract foreign investors to fulfil the solemn pledge he made to the good people of Nigeria.

“It is common knowledge that destruction is very easy and reconstruction very difficult. This is the ordeal Mr President is facing in fixing Nigeria.

“Accordingly, we wish to once more reassure Fr Mbaka, and indeed all Nigerians, that in the fullness of time nobody will regret ever voting for President Buhari. All he needs are prayers patience and support.”

  • Enugu APC chairman loses mum

The Chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ben Nwoye, has announced the death of his beloved mother, Mrs. Theresa Nwoye Egbo, aged 86. She is survived by six children and many grand children.

The deceased, according to family sources, died in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Thursday, July 21st, after a prolonged illness. A statements signed by Dr. Nwoye yesterday on behalf of the family, said she “is survived by 6 children, extended family, and many grand children.”

The deceased was a business woman, community leader, and a devout Catholic. The statement read thus: “with gratitude to God for life well spent, am happy to inform you that my mother, Theresa Nwoye Egbo, has joined her Creator today the 21st day of July 2016.

“She was 86 years old, and I want to thank you my friends and well wishers for your prayers during the period of her illness. The late Mrs Nwoye, was everything, a matriarch and a pillar of support, who was known and loved for her positive influence and contributions to lives of everyone who knew her.” Her funeral arrangements would be announced later.

  • Enugu APC sure of victory in rerun

Enugu State All Progressives Congress (APC) is hopeful of reclaiming its alleged stolen mandate in a rerun.

The party is sure that the tribunal will nullify the election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who it said was occupying the Government House temporarily.

APC Chairman Dr. Ben Nwoye addressed reporters yesterday after the party’s stakeholders meeting in Enugu. He said forensic evidence filed by the APC was weighing against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nwoye insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) erred in declaring Ugwuanyi winner of the April 11 poll.

He said: “As far as the Enugu State APC is concerned, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi is enjoying a stolen mandate, and that makes him a temporary tenant at the Government House.”

He said APC was repositioning itself ahead of its expected victory, adding that “those saying we are in crisis are making a big mistake.”

“You can see that all the state executives are here, including party stakeholders. Our National Vice Chairman, Southeast, Emma Enukwu, our governorship candidate, Okey Ezea, and others are here.

“So we dispel speculations in some quarters that APC in Enugu State is in crisis; we are not in crisis, we are one united big family”.

  • Enugu APC rejects result

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Atahiru Jega, to cancel the result of the state’s April 11 elections, for alleged electoral malpractices.

A petition by the state Chairman of APC Dr. Ben Nwoye, complained that a protest letter, delivered to the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), was not acted upon.

It reads: “I write to bring to your attention our request to cancel the election of April 11 in Enugu State, which was delivered to the Enugu State REC and received by his secretary on April 12, 2015, at 1:10 am.

“The REC refused to acknowledge our protest letter or investigate the allegations contained therein, which under normal circumstances should have occasioned a cancellation of the result.

“Instead of attending to our complaints of electoral malpractices, he hurriedly compiled the manufactured figures and instructed the Returning officer to announce them.”

Nwoye said the REC conducted Anambra State election, which Jega described as “flawed”.

According to the chairman, the REC, in collaboration with “his unscrupulous agents and employees sold result sheets and unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agents, party officials and government functionaries.”

He said some of the PVCs were recovered by security agents during the March 28 election and the culprit was released without trial despite evidence against him.

“We respectfully request that you order the REC and Returning officer to retract the announced election result.

“Furthermore, we request that you order an investigation of the allegation contained in the attached letter of protest submitted to Enugu State REC”, he said.
