MACCABI TEL AVIV LOAN DEAL ENYEAMA CONFIRMS LILLE RETURN

NIGERIA custodian Vincent Enyeama has once again stated that he will return to Lille when his loan deal with Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv expires.

Enyeama is being paid 900,000 euros per season at Lille and has two more years before his contract runs out. In his first season with the French team, he was relegated to the bench and had to look for a new team to enable him play on a continuous basis this campaign.

”I have a signed contract for another two years with Lille and it is perfectly normal I would have to honour the contract and return there immediately after the season here in Israel. In Europe, it is not acceptable to talk to a trainer and ask him if I’ll be number 1 or number 2. I hope the coach believes in me and let me play with Lille ,” Enyeama told one.co.il.

Enyeama will fight for a starting shirt with Steve Elana and Barel Mouko.

World Cup Qualifiers Dosu endorses Enyeama, others

Former Flying Eagles goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu, said on Wednesday in Lagos that Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama’s good form could help earn for Nigeria the World Cup ticket.

Dosu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that he was confident that Enyeama would do well during the match to ensure victory for the Super Eagles.

According to him, all he needs to do is to set his mind to winning the match and be prepared to ensure the success of the national team. He noted that even Enyeama’s Israeli team had just won the Israeli national league, noting that the league might have helped the keeper to keep up his form.

Dosu said he was confident of the ability of the other goalkeepers and urged Nigerians to be calm and supportive of the team.

“You can’t take anything away from those goalkeepers; Enyeama has done well. Ejide is pulling his weight and Agbim is trying to get his position back,” he said.

“I think all the goalkeepers are doing very well for the national teams; so, for me, I think Enyeama is on the high; he has just won the Israeli National League and for me you can’t take anything away from him. He’s been there for ages and he has done so well for the Nigerian national team.”

The former national team goalkeeper, then, applauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for arranging a friendly match to put the Eagles in good shape ahead of the Kenya match.

Eagles will play the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Nairobi on June 5 in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.

SUPER EAGLES shot-stopper, Vincent Enyeama couldn’t hide his joy as he joined ecstatic Maccabi Tel Aviv fans last Saturday night to celebrate the club’s 20th all-time title win at the Yitschak Rabin Square.

Recall the Nigerian three months ago celebrated Nigeria’s AFCON triumph after the Super Eagles piped Burkina Faso 1-0 in the Nations Cup final at the Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg.

Enyeama alongside Israeli pop stars Peer Tassi, Lior Narkis and the popular band “Ethnix”, his teammates, managerial and logistical professional staffs, took to the stage and listened on while their names were greeted by the cheers and admiration of the abundance of supporters who had gathered to celebrate a season that had returned to them the pride they had felt in happier days.

I would have benched Enyeama — Ejide

Nigeria goalkeeper Ejide has claimed that he would have been first-choice for the Super Eagles at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Ejide started most of the tune-up games prior to the tournament until a hamstring injury picked up against Cape Verde on January 9 saw him settle for a place on the sidelines.

The Hapoel Be’er Sheva keeper has exclusively opened up to supersport.com about his disappointment of capitulating to the debilitating injury just days to the commencement of the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

“Ultimately, it was up to the coaches to decide who eventually got the nod to start as first-choice at the AFCON but given my form and consistency at that time, it looked like I would have been the one to start the matches (at the tournament),” Ejide told supersport.com.

The goalkeeper also revealed that he tethered on the brink of depression following the injury but was able to bounce back as a result of the immense inner strength he possessed.

“To be honest, I was disappointed to have picked up the injury but I have learnt to accept whatever fate life throws at me and give God thanks. I knew that irrespective of the injury, I just had to get on with my life,” he explained.

Ejide, who has also enjoyed stints at Tunisia and France with Etoile du Sahel and Bastia then went on to speak about his friendship with current first-choice keeper and assistant captain of the Super Eagles, Vincent Enyeama.

“We are very good friends and enjoy a wonderful relationship. We are both based in Israel and usually interact often. He’s a great professional and a good human being,” he added.

Ejide made his Nigeria debut in 2001 and has since gone on to play for the Super Eagles on 22 occasions.

WCQ: A loss would have been disastrous – Enyeama

Nigeria stand-in skipper Vincent Enyeama has said it would have been a disaster had the Super Eagles lost at home to Kenya in a World Cup qualifier.

“I am happy we drew this match. Had we lost, it would have been a disaster,” said the Israel-based goalkeeper who deputised for Joseph Yobo who was not called up for this match.

“We did not play like champions, we played as a team who want to qualify (for the World Cup).”

MTNFootball.com reports that Enyeama would not discuss the Eagles chances against the Harambee Stars in the reverse fixture on June 5 in Nairobi.

“I cannot talk of the second leg now, it is three months away,” he insisted.

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi was devastated by the shock outcome of this Group F clash, like millions of other Nigerians.

He could not utter a word after the referee from Botswana Joshua Bondo blasted the final whistle.

The former Hawks of Togo handler was rooted to the substitute bench for several minutes after the game before he made his way to the dressing room.

‘Big Boss’, who was up on his feet for almost the entire duration of this encounter, said he expected to win the match.

“This was not what I expected. I expected to get the maximum three points. But it was better that it ended in a draw than if we had lost the game,” he said.

“The team will get better in subsequent matches.”

Eagles captain hails fans for support

Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama has declared that the Nigerians side were not outplayed by Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Saturday’s 2014 World cup qualifying match at the U.J.Esuene Stadium Calabar despite the 1-1 scoreline.

Speaking with SportingLife moments after the game, the Eagles shot-stopper revealed that the negative approach adopted by the Kenyans largely affected their game plan during the encounter.

He said: “We played as a team not African champions but the Kenyans never came here to play with the form of tactics they adopted. They just sat back during the match and this did not allow us to open them up and play our own brand of football,” he said, why stressing that all hopes are not lost.

“We are still in it and we are going to improve on what ever performance we have put out here today,” added Enyeama, even as he found time to thank the fans for their patience.

“I’m grateful to the fans for the support we had here today. Hopefully, we are going to make up for this result in subsequent games.”

Enyeama: Maccabi can’t afford my contract price

Vincent Enyeama says a permanent move to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer transfer market might be difficult to achieve as the Israeli log leaders look to have little financial muscle to prise him from Lille.

Just before the commencement of the season, the Nigeria custodian joined the Yellows on loan due to his lack of first team opportunities at Lille. The agreement between both clubs will run out in the next three months.

”The reality is that I have a contract for two more years with Lille. To be here next season should be negotiated between the clubs. Israel is an amazing place to be and I can not deny that,”Enyeama told sports.walla.co.il.

”Considering my age, my contract and my life, I’m not sure Maccabi could afford to pay my contract next season. Bring me from Lille means investing a lot of money.

”They will have to pay a very high exit clause that stands at three million euros. I do not think Lille will be willing to lend me again under the conditions of the current season. Now they pay something like 70 percent of my wages and Maccabi pay a small fee.”

The Eagles shot-stopper also confessed that he was frustrated with his lack of first team action at Lille. At his previous clubs, he was always guaranteed game time.

”The weather was terrible, minus 12 or minus 15 degrees and you’re sitting on the bench and freezing. It’s definitely very frustrating, but that’s life and that is the reality I wrestled., I lost my joy And it was very bad.

”How can I be happy when I’m not playing? I’ll give you an example., we had meetings with fans during the week. Sometimes it hurts so much to hear a fan ask me: ‘Excuse me, what’s your name, Who are you? Are you a new player here ? ‘.

”It was embarrassing., no one knew me because they did not see me on the field, kind of humiliation,” he said.

Enyeama, who is expected to skipper the Super Eagles at next weekend’s World Cup qualifier against Kenya, has suited up 19 times in the Israeli top flight.

Super Eagles is Yobo’s team -Enyeama

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, will step aside and allow defender Joseph Yobo lift the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title should Nigeria defeat Burkina Faso in Sunday’s final, SuperSport.com reports.

Yobo has lost his place in the Nigerian starting 11 following strong performances from Godfrey Oboabona, Elderson Echiejile, Efe Ambrose and Kenneth Omeruo in the team’s last four matches in the competition.

It is highly unlikely that Yobo will start Sunday’s final against the Stallions but Enyeama said he will not hesitate to step aside and allow Yobo lift the AFCON trophy in the event of a Nigerian victory.

“Jay (Joseph Yobo) is the captain and if we win on Sunday, and I know we will win, he will just go out there and pick his cup,” SuperSport.com quoted Enyeama as saying on Thursday.

Enyeama then stressed that he was not the Nigerian captain but was merely holding brief for the Fenerbahce defender who remains the leader of the Super Eagles.

“I am not the captain; I am merely putting on the (arm) band. Yobo is the man and he deserves to lift the trophy if we win and we will win.

“He has served Nigeria all these years and will lift his cup on Sunday,” he concluded.

The game between Nigeria and Burkina Faso will be played at the First National Bank (FNB) Stadium, Johannesburg on Sunday from 7pm.

    • Plans to strip to underpants
    • Wants to be Eagles’ goalkeeper at 42

Nigeria’s goal-keeper Vincent Enyeama says that he will be so overjoyed if Nigeria win the AFCON that at the final whistle on February 10 he will strip to his underpants.

“It will be a dream come true and I am certain I will strip to my shorts. Yes, let everyone hear it that I will strip to my shorts if we are champions.”

Vincent Enyeama has been very consistent since he became Nigeria’s undisputed first choice goal-keeper just after the 2002 World Cup in Japan/South Korea.

He was in the teams that played at the ’04 to ’10 tournaments where the country got to the semifinals in all but the ’08 tournament where incidentally, Austin Ejide was Berti Vogts’ first choice. Enyeama regained his place after Vogts’ departure and was arguably Nigeria’s best player at the 2010 World Cup.

The Israel based player wants to keep playing for a while yet. “I aim to keep playing until I’m 40. If possible into my 42nd year even. I work hard, I’m focused and if I do as little as I did today (he spoke to supersport.com after the Super Eagles’ victory over Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam) in more matches then I can easily play that long.”

Asked if the team was under pressure to deliver the trophy to Nigeria again since ’94, he says, “personally I do not think we are looking at the trophy for now. We want to win the first game, then the next and then the one after that.” He carries the aura of a man comfortable in his position as a footballer but also one who is very aware of the responsibilities of being an international.

“Nigerians should have faith in us, believe the best of us and pray for us. It is not beyond our abilities to win the competition with God on our side,” Enyeama concludes.

•Says the best will be in goal in South Africa

SUPER EAGLES’ goalkeeper trainer, Ike Shorunmu has allayed fears on the readiness and fitness levels of the team’s top two goalkeepers, Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide who are based in Israel.

The two goal stoppers topped the list of four goalkeepers included in the squad list of 32 released by Eagles gaffer, Stephen Keshi for the Faro, Portugal camping that would commence on December 29th, 2012. The other keepers are Rangers’ new keeper Chigozie Agbim and Heartland’s goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.

“Yes, Enyeama and Ejide are in good shape for the 2013 AFCON and I can assure you that all is well as far as that position is concerned. For now they are injury-free and they have been playing regularly for their respective clubs in Israel”, the former Eagles first choice in goal, popularly called ‘Ike Anobi’ told NationSport in Abuja yesterday.

“Back there in Israel I got good news about the duo and I do follow their performances on websites and television and I have been calling them too to keep the records on the number of matches they played, the way they performed in matches and I kept trailing them in various ways.

“Sincerely speaking, they will have to face our own final screening in Faro, Portugal, but I am confident of their abilities as a goalkeeper to make the final squad for the AFCON proper and to use their wealth of experience to help the team in the competition proper barring unexpected situations and injuries”, Shorunmu told NationSport.
