Enyimba lament draw with Kwara United

Enyimba FC have opened a book of lamentation after they struggled to a goalless draw with Kwara United in a week seven match of the Nigeria Professional Football League last Sunday.

Enyimba’s lack of cutting edge was once again laid bare in the NPFL Matchday 7 fixture as they again could not score despite dominating the game from start to finish.

Goalkeeper Paul Godwin described the result as difficult to accept.

“This is very difficult for me, very difficult for my team mates. We deserved to win this game, we really did and I am yet to come to terms with this goalless draw,” Paul said on EnyimbaFC.net

“After our draw with Warri Wolves, this is the last thing we wanted so I’m very upset by it. We knew we needed to win and right from the start we played very well, but unfortunately none of the chances we created was converted.

“I just want to assure our fans not to lose all hope because we as a team, despite this setback, are still ready to fight for a good finish. These two draws will make it hard for us but we will be willing to give everything we have in our next matches to make up for this very disappointing scoreline.”

The People’s Elephants are placed 9th on the log with nine points from seven games, and will travel to take on Gombe United in a week eight fixture.

    Rangers pip Enyimba 1-0

Enugu Rangers have opened the league season with a valuable win over rivals, Enyimba International FC of Aba in the Match Day One of the Nigeria Premier Football League(NPFL) played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Greenhorn Dada Bitrus benefitted from calamitous defending from the Peoples Elephant to put the Flying Antelopes ahead in the 26th minute for his team and the top flight’s first goal of the season.

Enyimba’s effort to get the desired equaliser met a brickwall by the defence of Rangers who held on stoutly for a famous victory over their neighbours in the South East derby otherwise called Oriental Derby.

Both sides witnessed glaring misses and couldn’t lift their game for most part of proceedings in Enugu.

The game was watched by record crowd and the League Management board led by the Chairman, Nduka Irabor.

It was also 1-0 when both sides met in Enugu last season before Enyimba won the reverse fixture 3-1 at Aba.

Rangers thus occupy first spot in the NPFL with 3 points till the rest of the matches are decided today.
