  • Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal gets new boss

    The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Mohammed Adam has deployed Mr Maikudi Shehu to the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) command of the Force as the new commissioner of police.

    The spokesman for the command, DSP Gbolahan Moronfolu, confirmed the deployment in a statement on Wednesday.

    Moronfolu said that the EOD new boss had since resumed duty.

    According to him, Shehu takes over from CP Kayode Egbetokun, who had been redeployed to the Kwara command.

    “CP Maikkudi Shehu is from Kebbi State. He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990. He has BA (Hons) in English Literature from ABU Zaria in 1983, and Masters Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from same institution.

    “He attended many courses within and outside the country and has served in various capacities of the force.

    “His desire is to work assiduously and harness his potential, experience with a view to repositioning EOD command for a higher quality service delivery,” he said.

  • Suspected explosive device chops-off man’s fingers in Osogbo – Police

    The Osun Police Command has said that a suspected explosive device in a car stereo, chopped-off four fingers of an Osogbo resident, who attempted to dismantle the stereo from a damaged car.

    A statement issued by Mrs. Folashade Odoro, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said the incident happened on Sunday, at about 3.30p.m, at Ajegunle Area in Osogbo.

    The statement was made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo.

    “Information was received at the Police division, Dugbe, Osogbo that one Nasiru Ibrahim got four fingers on his right arm chopped-off while dismantling a damaged car stereo in front of his house.

    “Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal experts were quickly deployed to the scene to examine the scene and recover the remains of the car stereo for further examination.

    “The circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined.

    “An investigating team comprising of EOD, SIB, SCIID and police medical personnel has been set up to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Odoro said.

    She said that the victim was admitted at the police clinic for medical treatment.

    Police to strengthen security in Lagos

    To strengthen security in Lagos State, the Police will henceforth monitor vehicles and individuals coming into the state.

    Police operatives will also be positioned at strategic points and areas considered blackspots. Stop and search will also be carried out, the police said.

    This was contained in a statement yesterday by the Police Spokesperson Ngozi Braide, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP).

    The statement read: “ In view of the forthcoming Easter Festival and Lagos State Black Heritage Carnival, the Police Command has put in place adequate security measures to forestall hoodlums from perpetuating any sinister act during the period.

    “A contingent of strike forces and specialised units of the force which includes Police Mobile Force (PMF) Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) Rapid

    Response Squad (RRS), Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) and conventional men have been positioned in all points to monitor vehicles and individuals coming into the state and conduct stop and search. The State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Operatives have also been deployed to all nooks and crannies for covert operation”.

    She said the Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko has since directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to supervise and monitor this intensive surveillance which will also pay serious attention to strategic places such as: worship centres,

    shopping malls, financial institutions, business plaza, markets,

    government installations, recreation centres, motor parks.

    Braide said Manko is also using this medium to wish Christians and all Lagosians a happy Easter and

    Black Heritage Carnival celebration.

    for their cooperation so far in crime fighting and encouraged them to always provide useful information that will assist the police in its war against criminals and all forms of criminality.

     

     

     

  • US trains 23 anti-bomb policemen

    Twenty three policemen in the Anti-Bomb Squad have been trained by the American Government to fight terrorism in the country.

    The policemen were trained in Explosive Incident Counter Measures Course at the Academy Training Centre, Moyock, North Carolina, USA.

    It was gathered that the policemen who returned home last Monday, will train 160 personnel that will be drawn from the various units of Explosive Ordinace Device (EOD) in the Federation during a two weeks training/seminar.

    The Commissioner of Police in charge, ‘B’ Department (EOD) Force Headquarters, Abuja, Abdulmajid Ali, said: ” In order to maximise the benefits realised from the course, the Command deemed it expedient to organise the seminar aimed at capacity building, predicated on the same contents that will enable the participants internalise the contents and also disseminate the knowledge so acquired to their subordinates in various EOD formations nationwide with a view to keeping them abreast with contemporary skills and technology in line with global best practices”.
