    Man remanded in prison over theft of motorcycle

    A 19-year-old, Ayodele Ibikunle, who allegedly stole a motorcycle, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri Prisons on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, who gave the order, said the accused should remain behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of intent to commit felony.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, said the accused stole a motorcycle with registration no. GBE 7 WY, belonging to the complainant, Mr Idowu Samuel.

    Victor alleged that the accused  committed the offence on May 21 at Sola Martins Street, New Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.

    According to him, the accused was seen attempting to steal the motorcycle where it was parked at the complainant’s workshop.

    “Samuel caught Ibikunle in the act and reported the case to the police, who arrested him with the motorcycle.”

    The offence contravened Section 311 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until Aug. 2.

  • Woman charged with stealing clothing materials

    A 40-year-old woman, Oloyede Sola, who allegedly burgled the shop of one Glory Emmanuel and stole clothing materials valued at N54, 000 was on Tuesday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The accused, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 22 in Makinde Street, Alausa, Ikeja.
    Eruada said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant and stole 20 yards of ‘Atiku’ type of fabrics   valued at N20, 000 and seven bundles of ‘Ankara’ fabrics valued at N34, 000
    “She was caught by the vigilance group in the area with the items and the cutlass she used to damage the door of the shop,” he said.

    The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.
    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Anifowoshe adjourned the case until April 26 for mention.

    Man, arraigned for stealing phone

    The Police on Thursday arraigned a 32-year-old man, Ahmed Idris, who allegedly pleaded to use the cell phone of a lady to make a call, only to disappear with it.

    Idris, whose residential address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraud at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Eruada Victor , told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 28, at Gina Road, Agege, in Lagos.

    Victor said the accused approached the complainant, Blessing Uchenna , and pleaded to make a call with her Techno F9 cell phone valued at N50,000.

    He said that the accused fraudulently collected the phone and made away with it.

    The prosecutor said that the complainant reported the case to the police and the accused was apprehended.

    He said the offence contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    The magistrate adjourned the case till April 17 for mention.

    Man arraigned for stealing ‘kpomo’

    One Adesanya Tobi, 26, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with breaking into a shop and stealing 44 pieces of cow skin popularly called ‘kpomo’, valued N80,000,

    Tobi, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breaking and stealing preferred against him.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Eruada Victor, said the accused committed the offences on March 25 at Ijaye Bus Stop, Ojokoro, Lagos.

    Eruada said the accused broke into the shop of the complainant, Yusuf Iyabo, to commit the offence.

    The prosecutor said Tobi was caught by the vigilance group in the area, adding that the offences contravened sections 285 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    He said the iron rods and cutlasses he used to damage the door of the shop were recovered from him.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that section 285 stipulates three years jail term on conviction.

    The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Anifowoshe adjourned the case until April 17 for mention.

     

  • Court admits salesboy to N200,000 bail over theft

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday granted N200,000 bail to a 22-year-old salesboy, Kogbekeloye Peter, for alleged theft of N202,000 in his master’s shop.

    The Magistrate, Mrs. G.O. Anifowoshe, who granted the bail, ordered the accused to produce two sureties in like sum.

    Anifowoshe said that one of the sureties must be his blood relation and must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    She adjourned the case till April 5, for mention.

    Peter, who lives at Oko-Oba, Agege Area of Lagos State, had pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

    Prosecutor Eruada Victor had told the court that Peter committed the offences on March 11 at Able God Ventures, Alagbado Area of Lagos.

    Victor said that the accused stole N202,000 from his master, Olawumi Temidayo’s shop and made away with it.

    He said the complainant reported the matter at the police station, which led to the arrest of the accused.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction attracts a three-year jail term.
