Esperance moves to complete Bulbwa signing

Tunisia’s Esperance has moved swiftly to secure the services of Flying Eagles forward, Bernard Bulbwa, by moving to pay him $80,000 as part of his signing-on fee.

Bulbwa told africanFootball.com recently that he does not have a valid contract with the top Tunisian club after the team officials stalled discussions with his London-based agent on some grey areas in the contract he reportedly signed in March.

“Esperance officials have now contacted me to furnish them with my bank details so that they could pay part of my signing-on fees. But I have directed them to my agent, he is the man they have to deal with if they really want me to play for them,” he told africanFootball.com.

Bulbwa’s contract will start on July 1, although the Tunis club had asked him to come over immediately after the Flying Eagles crashed out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

    I don’t belong to Esperance – Bulbwa

World Cup-bound Flying Eagles forward, Bernard Bulbwa, has said he does not belong to Tunisian club Esperance despite agreeing personal and other terms with the club in April.

Bulbwa told africanFootball.com he and his representatives are yet to get a copy of what he reportedly agreed with Esperance and this was despite several promises by the top Tunisian club officials that they will get across the contract to them.

Esperance also promised to pay him part of the signing-on fee upon his signing the contract, but he has yet to receive any cash from the club.

“I am not yet an Esperance player,” declared the 18-year-old forward to africanFootball.com

“I remember signing some documents at Esperance, but I don’t even have a copy of what I have signed with this club, same thing with my manager.

“The officials have been promising to send us copies of this agreement for more than a month now and they are yet to do so.

“Even the money they promised to give me for signing, they have not given me the money.

“As a result of this, I am still a free player and my manager is ready to listen to any club who wish to sign me.”

However, Bulbwa, whose stunning goal won Nigeria a record seventh African Youth Championship in Dakar, Senegal, maintained that the controversies surrounding his reported transfer to Esperance will not make him lose focus at the U-20 World Cup, which starts next week in New Zealand.

“I am fully concentrated on the World Cup because I know what is at stake for both my country and myself,” he told africanFootball.com

“My manager will handle anything to do with my transfer.”

FIFA U-20 World Cup: Esperance starlet eager for Obuh’s call

Esperance starlet Emeka Emerum wants an opportunity to play for the Flying Eagles at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup billed to be staged in Turkey this summer.

The 18 – year – old striker is thought to have impressed coach John Obuh when the Blood and Gold met the Under 20 National Team in a friendly prior to the African Youth Championship.

After the exhibition match played in Tunisia, John Obuh gave the youngster his word that he will invite him to camp to fight for a shirt. But there has been no contact between the two since April.

”I spoke to the coach for the last time before he travelled to Germany to attend a coaching course.

”He assured me that I am in his plans, and will invite me for the camping exercise.

”Up till now, I am still waiting to hear from him. The coach has seen me play the last time the team was in Tunis.

”We discussed after the friendly between the Flying Eagles and Esperance. I would love to play for the national team,” Emerum told allnigeriasoccer.com.

The ex Bayern Munich youth – teamer has seen his first team opportunities limited at Esperance due to the strict foreign quota rule.

”In the Espearance team, there are five foreigners – two Algerian internationals, two Ghana internationals and myself.

”So it is very difficult for me to play as they are more experienced than me. I am still working hard to get my chance,” said Emerum, who has been compared to ex-Monaco star Victor Ikpeba.

Emeka Emerum has scored 4 goals in 5 appearances for the reserve team of Esperance.

Flying Eagles battle Esperance U-20, Club Africain

The Flying Eagles will step up preparations for the African Youth Championship (AYC) in Algeria with two more test games against Esperance U-20 and Club Africain in Tunisia.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja and signed by Samm Audu, the Media Officer of the team. The statement said that the Nigeria U-20 would take on Esperance today, and also battle top Club Africain on Monday, March 11.

Club Africain were beaten in the final of the 2011 Confederation Cup. In the statement, the Team Secretary, Aliyu Lawal, said both matches would kick-off at 7 p.m. as the Flying Eagles are due to play a late game in the group stage of the AYC.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Flying Eagles lost their first two warm-up matches in Tunisia, 2-0 to the Tunisia U-20 team and 2-1 to Esperance main team. They defeated their Egyptian counterparts 3-1 in Cairo and drew the second game 0-0 also in Egypt.

The statement said former Esperance goalkeeper Jean-Jacques Tizie has tipped the Flying Eagles to successfully defend the AYC crown they won two years ago in South Africa.

“This is a very mature team. They gave Esperance a very good fight and I see them going on to keep their title in Algeria.”

The statement said 40-year-old Tizie featured for ‘The Blood and Gold’ between 2000 and 2006 and won 83 caps for Cote d’Ivoire.

“He was top choice for the Elephants at the 2006 World Cup in Germany,”’ it said.

Emeka Emerum, Nigerian-born winger, who played against the Flying Eagles on Saturday, also said both the Esperance coach and players saluted the quality of the Nigeria U-20.

“They were really surprised by how the Flying Eagles controlled the game, especially in the first half,” said Emerum, who only recently signed a four-year contract with the perennial Tunisian champions.

“The coach said the team could pass for the Super Eagles, and at half time, he told us we had to take the game very seriously.”

Obuh sure of F/Eagles despite Esperance loss

FLYING Eagles coach John Obuh has reassured his team will be up to the task at the 2013 AYC even after they lost 2-1 to Esperance in a bruising warm-up on Saturday.

The Nigeria youth team lost their first test game to Tunisia U20s 2-0 on Thursday.

“The result was again not what we expected, but the performance of the team has reassured us we will be the team to beat in Algeria,” Obuh said after the match played at the El Menzah Stadium training pitch in Tunis.

“It was a good game but we have to work on our goal scoring and I expect the players not to lose their composure even when the referee has made a few bad calls.

“All the same, I believe in this team. We have worked very hard and we will continue to work even harder to ensure the best for Nigeria.”

The Nigeria U20s controlled the first half against the two-time African champions, who lined up a very strong starting XI that included new signings Emmanuel Clottey from Becham Chelsea of Ghana and Nigerian-born winger Emeka Emerum as well as Tunisia internationals Houcine Ragued and Wajdi Bouazzi.

The Flying Eagles created the best chances in a goalless first half and will again have to blame their finishing for not going ahead in this test game.

Christian Pyabara had an effort blocked by goalkeeper Wassim Naouara from inside the box after 27 minutes and in the 35th minute, skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun failed to make the most of a free header right inside the box.

The biggest chance of the first period fell to Pyabara when he only had to guide the ball into an empty net after a great work from the left by Alhaji Gero, but somehow he skied his effort over the bar.

Esperance, who brought in Ghana international defender Harrison Afful, Algeria star Antar Yahia and first-choice goalkeeper Moez Ben Charifia after the interval, took the lead in the 50th minute when goalkeeper Jonah Usman failed to clear the ball and in the ensuing melee that involved Emerum, Lampjed Chehoudi fired home.

The perennial Tunisian champions doubled their advantage two minutes later when Kingsley Madu brought down Clottey inside the box and skipper Khalid Chammam tucked away the spot kick.

Nigeria midfielder Moses Orkuma was sent off for retaliation in the 59th minute.

However, substitute Umar Aminu pulled a goal back for the African youth champions in the 67th minute after a flowing team play.

The Flying Eagles finished stronger as they continued to fight for the equaliser, but Esperance held out to barely shade a hard-fought encounter.

The Nigeria U20s are slated to test their readiness for the AYC in Algeria with two more test games against Club Africain and the Esperance U20 team.
