Esther Okoronkwo delivered a standout performance for AFC Toronto, notching a goal and an assist in a 3–1 comeback win over Halifax Tides, just days before reporting for international duty with Nigeria.
Halifax stunned the home side with an early goal in the 6th minute, but Toronto responded midway through the first half through a stunning long-range effort from Kaylee Hunter. The equaliser set the tone for a dominant second-half display from the hosts.
Okoronkwo was at the heart of Toronto’s attacking threat, constantly finding space, linking up with teammates, and putting the visiting defence under pressure. She set up Hunter’s second goal in the 54th minute with a perfectly weighted through ball, giving Toronto a 2–1 lead.
Moments later, the 28-year-old got on the score sheet herself. After a sharp build-up, Hunter turned provider, releasing Okoronkwo with a clever pass. The Nigerian striker rounded the keeper and coolly finished to seal the win—her fourth goal of the season.

She was withdrawn in the 75th minute after an impressive and composed display that helped her team secure all three points.
Okoronkwo now shifts focus to international duties as she joins the Super Falcons camp in Lisbon. Nigeria will face Portugal and Ghana in friendlies as they finalise preparations for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. With her form surging at the right time, the forward is poised to play a key role in Nigeria’s push for a record-extending 10th continental title.
