  • Etcetera returns with new jam

After a brief hiatus from the music scene, controversial Nigerian musician, Etcetera, has returned with a brand new jam.

The Alternative music act who was became popular for his criticism of fellow entertainers and the Nigerian government, according to information, is back recording in the United States.

According to earlier reports, Etcetera allegedly moved to the United States as a result of incessant death threats he was getting over his constant criticizing of the government in the rundown to the 2015 election..

In his new single just released in the United States, he backs his voice with multilayered harmonies of piano, guitar and occasional string section.

Titled ‘No Virgin in America’, the artiste says that the song talks about the hypocrisy of the American system, how America preaches good rules from one side of her mouth and encourages extol promiscuity from the other.

“A country which boast of a beautiful statue of liberty has deprived a section of its citizenry the liberty to vote. Living in the United States for just over two years has opened my eyes to the hypocrite that the United States is,” he said.

He is increasingly becoming popular for his controversial write-ups, but many have come to see Nigerian artiste, Paschal Ejikeme, aka Etcetera, as an attention seeker. Usually, the singer-turned-writer expresses his disdain for what he terms celebrities’ world of fantasy.

This time, his attack was directed at artistes such as D’banj, Wizkid, Genevieve Nnaji, Iyanya and Oritse Femi. “Again, I’m going to go out on a limb here to talk on a subject that may not be very popular or nice to Nigerian celebs, especially the guilty ones. I have said it severally that just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean they are smart,” he began, citing the purported D’banj’s debts and story of his possible eviction from a rented apartment. Etcetera said it is hard to believe that someone of D’banj’s status could actually be thrown out of his house.

He also stated that Iyanya had been evicted from the mansion he allegedly bought while Wizkid’s car hasn’t been paid for and Oritse Femi doesn’t look the part of a N200m house owner “even with all his body cream.”

On Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, he said: “I shivered when I saw in some blogs over the week that Genevieve just bought a house in Ghana for a whopping $4m. This will go down as the grandmother of all lies told so far. Genny baybay, you should have asked yourself if there’s any house worth $4m in the whole of Ghana, except you bought the Ghana National Theatre, which by the way may not be worth $4m.

“These lies are getting dumber by the day. The worst thing that can happen to any man is believing his own lies.”

    Etcetera rebuffs critics

SOUL singer-turned-writer, Etcetera, has asked his critics to go to court if really aggrieved by his comments on the music industry.

The singer has been described other music artistes as a frustrated singer who has veered into media work just to vent his anger on his celebrated colleagues.

“I just have a few questions that I want you to help me ask these set of people. First, the issues I raise in my column every week; are they cogent issues militating against the music industry in Nigeria or just a fabrication of my own imagination. Why haven’t any of them taken me to court?” He asked, in a chat with The Nation.

The Michel crooner, who runs a live radio show-Etcetera live on top radio FM in Lagos, writes a column under the same title in a popular Nigerian newspaper every Saturday, noted that “When this present face of Nigerian music industry started, it was an all-comer’s affair. No one was taking time off to do things right. Our air waves became a dumping ground for jargons and I am not talking about musicians alone, but even radio and television presenters who know next to nothing about the job,” he said, giving this as the reason he decided to criticise perceived substandard works of fellow artistes. “If you don’t want Etcetera to write about you in bad light, do the right thing and I will sing your praises to high heaven,” he said.

He said although he has not given up the idea of music, “The writing thing is really getting interesting, that I plan on doing it daily online, but I am still writing and producing songs. But I am holding up till when I get the right feeling, before I put the music out there.”

  • My grouse is against the song, not Wizkid –Etcetera

NIGERIAN musician turned columnist, Etcetera, has addressed the controversy surrounding an article he wrote recently, criticising a song, In My Bed, by Nigerian pop-singer, Wizkid.

In the article, Etcetera described Wizkid’s song In my bed as “The worse song of this or any other year.”

He queried the consistency of the lyrics, saying; “One minute you are trying to woo a girl into your bed; the next, you are saying Tinubu eleniyan, Fashola eleniyan. What has Tinubu eleniyan got to do with getting her in your bed? Are you pimping her to Tinubu or to the other names you mentioned in the song? There’s nothing wrong with praise singing if you do it right. In My Bed sounds like a guy trying so hard to get it right and therefore getting it all wrong.”

To Wizkid’s fans, Etcetera was only jealous of the young man’s success, especially since he, who claims to be so knowledgeable in music, has never come close to the success of Wizkid.

“I will like to point out one fact; I do not run down people because that is not what my column is meant for. People have said a lot of things and have called me a failed musician but that does not move me. You just take a look at the article and listen to the song again and tell me if I am wrong. I do not have any problem with Wizkid, I only criticised his song objectively, please help me tell them I am not ready to stop if another act releases crap; I will still do the same thing,” replied Etcetera.

Etcetera lashes at entertainers who lost primaries

Singer-turned-music critic, Etcetera, has taken a shot at entertainers who vied for political positions but lost in the just concluded primary elections, describing them as clueless and lack the moral standing to run for office. He opined that the entertainers were driven by greed and corrupt intent.

“The system has been analytically taking notes of your below the par exploits even within the madhouse we call entertainment industry. Don’t you get it, because you are in the sacred ministry of receiving brown envelopes doesn’t make you qualified to administer or make laws.”

The writer wondered why these entertainers who have fallen short of taking the driver’s seat in tackling or correcting anomalies in the entertainment industry feel they are qualified for public offices. He said entertainers would fare better, if they get solutions to problems in entertainment industry right before delving into politics.

“Haven’t you heard that charity begins at home? What changes have you initiated in this madhouse we call entertainment industry? How many of you musicians seeking public office today have come out to protest against injustice artistes are facing in the hands of the cabals on radio? You are scared of challenging the smaller cabals at the radio stations who demand bribe before playing your songs, what would you do when faced with the ogbologbos in politics? You can’t give what you don’t have”

For those who keep referring to Hollywood  star Arnold Schwarnegger who governed the state of California, he said, “Schwarzenegger wouldn’t have been eligible to run for any election in America if he was a member of any organisation as corrupt and confused as the Actors Guild of Nigeria.”

He also questioned the intellectual capabilities of people in showbiz to question when he said, “A head that can’t produce meaningful lyrics cannot inspire anything meaningful in governance. If you can’t stand for anything with your art, then you surely don’t have what it takes to lead. The content of your songs says a lot about your mental capabilities.”

He urged the entertainers who may still want to try their luck in 2019 to start off as campaign managers and seeking advice from experts.

  • BOMB BLAST – Etcetera lambasts D’banj, Don Jazzy, Genevieve, others

BOMB BLAST – Etcetera lambasts D’banj, Don Jazzy, Genevieve, others

FOLLOWING Monday’s bomb blast at Nyanya in Abuja by suspected Boro Haram insurgents, popular Nigerian singer, Etcetera, has lashed out at Nigerian entertainers, saying they are largely responsible for the unfortunate incident.

His view, which has now gone viral on the social media, has since generated mixed reactions from different quarters, some of whom have labeled him a ‘noise maker’ seeking unnecessary attention.

According to him,“For God’s sake, can somebody please call D’banj, Don Jazzy, Onyeka Onwenu, Duncan Mighty, Stephanie Okereke, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Aki and Pawpaw, Sammy Okposo, Sunny Nneji, Maleke, Okey Bakassi, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Daddy Showkey, Richard Mofe Damijo, Kwam 1 and other entertainers that have, at one time or the other, been seen dining with politicians? Can you please tell them that there has been a bomb blast in Nyanya? Can you include pictures of the mutilated bodies? Please, don’t forget to tell them that most of the dead might have been lovers of their music and movies and cheered them in concerts and football matches they played both at club levels and the national team. Tell them that their CDs and movies were bought by those dead fans for inspiration and because they wanted to feel alive and ease off the daily tensions faced everyday in this country.

“That the jingles done by D’banj, Don Jazzy, Sammy Okposo, Onyeka Onwenu and other entertainers might have convinced some of those who have died in different Boko Haram raids or bad roads or due to lack of proper healthcare facilities to vote for politicians who have failed them in all ramifications?”

Even as many await Etcetera’s next line of action, some artistes such as Segun Arinze, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Omoni Oboli, and Genevieve Nnaji have condoled with the victims of the bomb blast.

  • Male celebs now female senators’ sex toys—Etcetera

Male celebs now female senators’ sex toys—Etcetera

PASCAL Ejikeme, popularly known as Etcetera, is not happy with the crop of male celebrities in Nigeria.

His anger stemmed from what he described as the undisciplined attitude of some celebrities.

He said though many parade themselves as businessmen on several trips to Abuja, they only engage in extra- marital affairs with the high society ladies known as Alhajas and senators in return for money.

According to Etcetera, “It is so appalling how some Nigerian men in the entertainment industry are becoming enslaved to women because of money. How can a man be so emasculated? Where is our pride? Each time an entertainer boards a flight to Abuja, you begin to wonder if he’s going for a public event or a private one. Our male celebrities are unashamedly becoming sex toys and pleasure gadgets to female senators and Alhajas. What’s happening to Nigeria men?

“It is so appalling to hear talks of how a former senator has so many male celebrities on rotation for her weekly pleasures. Even the supposedly gospel musicians are at the forefront of this ridicule. Also, a man knows that his wife is sleeping with politicians and other societal big wigs for money, yet he closes his eyes to all the insults. What’s going on?,” he asked.
