And after the training session, Nigeria U23 medics finally ruled him out of the contest at the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto.

The player has told some of his colleagues it pains him to miss both the quarter-final and now the semi-final too,” a team official told AfricanFootball.com.

Portugal-based Etebo, who said he is inspired by Manchester United star Wayne Rooney, scored his four goals against Japan on Friday.

“When I scored those goals, I didn’t think about anything. It’s a game of football! Luck was on my side,” he told FIFA.com.

“I’m not that perfect but I believe, like my coach says, once you get a chance, it’s better you convert it because you don’t know when you’re going to get another one.

“I’m not a kind of special striker or fantastic goalscorer, but it’s better to be at the right place at the right time to score good goals.”

2017 AFCON qualifier: Etebo wants piece of pie against Egypt

Oghenekaro Etebo was the break out star at the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, finishing as the top scorer and subsequently picked the CAF award as the Most Promising talent last year but earning a first team place in the Super Eagles is a luxury he doesn’t think he’d be handed on a platter.

The former Warri Wolves midfielder powered Nigeria to a first AFCON U-23 title but may not be on hand to help them against Brazil in the March 24 International friendly because of an AFCON qualifier against Egypt.

Etebo, 20, told footballlive.ng that he intends to work hard and make a case for himself in the Super Eagles team for the double header against Egypt.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles interim coach, Samson Siasia will only keep six NPFL-based players for the AFCON qualifier against Egypt.

Three defenders, two midfielders and a goalie were retained by the selectors, sources in the camp confirmed.

The list of six players was headlined by CAF 2015 Most Promising Talent, Oghenekaro Etebo (MF unattached), and Super Eagles B first choice goalie, Ikechukwu Ezenwa (GK Sunshine Stars).

Ifeanyi Matthew (MF, Kano Pillars), Chibuzor Okonkwo (DF, FC IfeanyiUbah), Orji Kalu (DF, Enugu Rangers), Matthew Etim (DF, Enugu Rangers) make up the list.

    Etebo’s Portugal deal still on

Oghenekaro Etebo’s proposed move to Portuguese ,Clube Desportivo Feirense is still very much alive, with the transfer window set to officially close in Portugal in the next 48 hours, the player’s agent claims.

Endurance Ogbemudia, Etebo’s agent and advisor has stressed that the striker’s transfer to the Segunda Liga side from Warri Wolves is already in the bag, having penned a two-and-a-half-year deal, and he will be jetting out to Portugal in the coming days.

“Etebo is still expecting his visa from the Portuguese embassy, by the grace of God if the visa comes out he’ll travel to Portugal,” Ogbemudia said to Goal.

“He has already signed a two-and -a-half year contract effective January 10, 2016 to June 30, 2018. The deal is 99.99 per cent concluded, CD Feirense have all documentations.”

The Nigeria U-23 striker had been linked with possible moves to Esperance and CS Sfaxien in Tunisia and Ismaily in Egypt, before he committed his future to CD Feirense.

“One of the major reasons Etebo rejected those offers is that the owner of Feirense had a long chat with him and told him of his plans for the club.

“The offer from Feirense was more realistic than the other options available. He explained that he wants to bring the club to limelight by signing Nigerian stars.

“They want to gain promotion to the elite division at the end of this season, Kunle Soname is truthful to his words,” Ogbemudia concluded.

Etebo rose to prominence at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations last December and was subsequently rewarded for his outstanding performance, with CAF naming him the Most Promising Talent in Africa early last month.

Warri Wolves warn Etebo: Don’t sign foreign contract without us

The Management of Warri Wolves has said that Oghenekaro Etebo is still having a running contract with the club.

Etebo has reportedly signed a deal with a second division side in Portugal without the knowledge of the club.

The club’s media officer, Azuka Chiemeka told SportingLife that Etebo signed two years contract with Warri Wolves that runs till the end of 2016.

Chiemeka claimed that the 20-year old striker is trying to deny the Seasiders its right and privileges in the transaction he is having with the Portuguese side.

He said the club’s management is not happy with the way the player is going about the contract, stressing that they would do anything humanly possible to ensure that proper things are done.

“Oghenekaro Etebo is a player of Warri Wolves. His contract is still running with us. He signed two years contract with us and his contract will expire at the end of this 2016 season,” Chiemeka told SportingLife.

“We have heard that he is moving abroad and that he is moving to a second division side in Portugal. The way he is going about it, it shows that he wants to deny Warri Wolves its right and privileges in that transaction for not involving us.

“And the club management is frowning at it and they have called him to come and sort things out with them. And if he refused to do the right thing we will go to any lenght to make our own stand known. We can as well take his case to CAS. The way he is going about it is not normal. He should do things in a professional way,” Chiemeka said.

Etebo to dump Warri Wolves for Europe

Nigeria U-23 star, Oghenekaro Etebo has revealed he is set to move to Europe this month, but refused to name the club he has reached an agreement with.

“This January I will move to Europe, everything has been agreed, but I won’t disclose the name of the club yet,” he said.

On Thursday, the Warri Wolves midfielder was named CAF Most Promising Talent after he finished top scorer at the recent U-23 AFCON in Senegal with five goals.

Warri Wolves have placed a two million Euros price tag on the player even though this has since been reviewed downwards.

Several Tunisian clubs including Esperance are reportedly willing to break the bank to sign Etebo.

Two years ago, he underwent trials at Italian club Sampdoria, but a knee injury eventually scuttled the transfer.
