We organised our markets and sustained traders’ engagement, promoting orderliness and revenue growth, youth empowerment initiatives, skills acquisition programmes, and community-based employment opportunities, improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through digitisation, transparency, and reduction of revenue leakages, institutional reforms, staff capacity building, and restoration of confidence in local government administration.”

Some concerned stakeholders have held a solidarity rally to support Chairman of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), John Campos Ogundare.

Led by Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eti-Osa East, Adekunle Odunuga, they opposed all allegations of financial misappropriation leveled against the chairman.

Some residents of the council, last Thursday, marched on the House of Assembly to call for the chairman’s removal over alleged financial misappropriation.

Led by Segun Williams, the protesters said their action was to prevent a worse scenario, ‘especially now that the federal allocation has increased, thus leading to increased accruals to the councils’

But Odunuga said: “Under his leadership, Eti-Osa East became secured and safe, chairman kill them with your achievements. We are proud of your legacy, Hon. John Campos, you are the man of the people.

“We don’t know the earlier protesters; they are not residents of Eti-Osa East so we are here to counter their protest because their allegations against the chairman are unfounded. If they want to get details of how things run, they should have come to the council instead of staging a protest to damage the chairman’s image.”

Another resident, Apostle Olusoji Fagbuda, noted that growing up in Eti-Osa made him realise how it’s rated as the least developed area within the four LCDAs. He however acknowledged that since Ogundare became the chairman, there has been developments and security in the community.

“Since Hon. Campus Ogundare came in, there has been a series of developments. Before he was elected, we had challenges of security but today we can go to our market in broad day light without any challenges and he has several projects he had done,” he noted.

Fagbuda also reaffirmed that those who staged the earlier previous aren’t residents of Eti-Osa East.

“We do not know those people who came on Thursday to protest. I am a resident and a party member, and we cannot point to one or two of them, so let them come and tell us who they are and where they reside within our community. They are hungry lots and looking for how to survive.”

The group was received by two lawmakers – Desmond Elliot (Surulere 1) and Adebola Abdulrasheed Shabi (Lagos mainland 2).

Elliot, responding to their pleas, said: “We have listened to all parties present here and I believed last week, there was a group that came here they meet with my colleague and they addressed them.

“Today, you have also come to counter the protest and we have listened. We will take your protest and your petition to the House. The issue will be raised in the next plenary session and the case will be duly deliberated.

“Like I said, the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and the principal officers will advise accordingly. However we have accepted what you have said and it will be taken in for further investigation by the house.”

Residents of Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have called for the removal of the council Chairman, John Ogundare, for alleged financial misappropriation.

Residents, led by Segun Williams, marched in through Lagos State House of Assembly to ask the lawmakers to remove Ogundare. This, they said, is to prevent a worse scenario, especially now that the federal allocation has increased, thus leading to increased accruals to the councils.

Williams said Ogundare had been indicted in an investigative report by the legislative council for misappropriating the Council’s 2023 budget, warranting his removal from office.

The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions like ‘Eti Osa East Concerned Youths say John Ogundare must go now. No to Yahoo Chairman’, ‘Ogundare threatened Councillors for observing legislative oversight, Remove John Campos Ogundare now’, ‘Save Eti-Osa East LCDA from further corruption’, ‘Lagos Assembly save Eti-Osa LCDA legislative council from executive rascality’.

According to Williams, allegations against the Ogundare were outlined in a report sent to the lawmakers on December 19, 2023.

The report, signed by the council’s Majority Leader, said the chairman diverted funds designated for critical sectors such as health and education. It also said Ogundare failed to pay running costs to the departments in accordance with the 2023 budget, neglecting balance payments to past political office holders against government advice, unauthorised project execution, and contract awards without legislative approval.
