Ex-Enyimba player Sokari may get Eagles call-up

According to reports exclusively gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com, Sfaxien of Tunisia Nigerian midfileder Kingsley Sokari could be called up for Nigeria’s World Cup 2018 clash against Zambia.

He is one of the players under consideration by new coach Gernot Rohr in his bid to improve the midfield of the Super Eagles in their World Cup qualifiers campaign.

Last season, the former Enyimba of Aba player was one of the top performers for Sfaxien, playing a very big role in their second place finish in the league. It appears he was proposed to the coach by one of his assistants.

” Sokari is among the names under consideration by the new manager Gernot Rohr. He could be invited but for now he is one among several names on the tentative list of potential invitee,” a source told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Sokari was heavily tipped to make the Nigeria Olympic team, but personal differences with the coach of the team Samson Siasia kept him out of the team for the business end of their campaign that resulted in the bronze medal at the games in Rio.

Former Ghanaian international and Enyimba legend Joetex Frimpong takes a significant step towards boosting his coaching career as he attempts to acquire the UEFA B badge in Switzerland.

After playing for the trio of BSC Young Boys, FC Luzern and FC Zurich in the Swiss Super League, the Enyimba legend has since switched to a career in the dugout.

“I’ve acquired my first coaching badge in Switzerland and I’m set for the UEFA B. Interestingly, the programme also involves my former teammate at Young Boys, Miguel Alfredo Portillo, and former Swiss international Christoph Spycher amongst others.

“My desire is to share the experience with footballers and become a better manager,” he told supersport.com.

Frimpong started his coaching career with the youth team of his former club, BSC Young Boys, before joining SC Derendingen in the lower division.

After a stint with Derendingen, Frimpong joined FC Niederbipp, also in the lower division, in 2014.

Ex-Enyimba coaches lock horns in Ilorin

The clash between Nasarawa United and City of David (COD) today at the Ilorin Township stadium no doubt goes beyond the FA cup round of 32.

Incidentally, Alphonsus Dike and his opposite number Austin Eguavoen, the two coaches that will be fighting for a slot in the round of 16, have at one time or the other coached two-time champions league winners Enyimba, and will be bringing their wealth of experience to bear on the tie.

While Dike enjoyed a romance with the Aba-based side popularly called ‘The People’s Elephant’ between 2005 and 2006, Eguavoen, a former international and ex Super Eagles coach, tutored the club between 2008 and 2009 leading it to a third place finish in the premier league and winning the Federation Cup in 2009.

COD, campaigning in the Nigerian National League, are known to be ambitious, a virtue which Eguavoen revealed was his major attraction.

“I am very happy to join COD United. I am very excited about their approach to football and I feel at home already. They are forward-looking, very ambitious and brave which are all attributes I share.

“I have seen the players, they are talented no doubt and all I can do is make them even better and work with them to gain promotion,” Eguavoen had submitted while putting pen on paper with the side.

Dike confirmed in a chat with SportingLife yesterday, that the Lafia side, who hit Ilorin, the Kwara State capital Monday, were battle-ready. “We are looking forward to the match tomorrow (today),” enthused the former Rangers and National U-17 handler.
