  • Kogi APC chair, other exco members expelled

The Chairman of the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Hadi Ametuo and other members of his executive have been expelled from the party.

The Acting state Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahovi, announced the expulsion of Ametuo and others at a press conference in Lokoja yesterday.

Ahovi, who is leading a faction of the party loyal to Governor Yahaya Bello, said the expulsion was with immediate effect.

According to him, the action became necessary following Ametuo’s failure to appeal the decision of the North Central Zonal Executive of the party which had earlier pronounced him guilty of anti-party activities and recommended his expulsion to the national body.

He said that Ametuo-led executive failed to appeal the decision within 14 days as stipulated by the constitution of the party, saying that the failure to abide by the provision meant consent.

Ahovi said that the party would not hesitate to get Ametuo arrested and charged with impersonation should he fail to stop parading himself as the state chairman of the party.

The factional chairman thereafter inaugurated other new state executive members of the party to replace those expelled.

Ahovi, was until now the state Vice Chairman of the party.

He condemned the recent formation of a body, Save Kogi Group, saying that members of the group were only out to cause disaffection, disunity, hatred among the people of the state.

However, in his reaction to the announcement, the embattled chairman described his purported expulsion as illegal and unconstitutional.

Ametuo, who spoke to journalists on phone from Abuja, said that the faction led by was not known to the National Working Committee of the party.

He described members of Ahovi faction as “political jobbers who are only out to frustrate the ongoing efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the party nationwide.

Ametuo said that the faction was not also conversant with the constitution of the party, saying that state working committee has no power to expel but to suspend which is also subject to the NEC ratification.

The Chairman advised members of the party to remain calm and be law abiding, saying that the action of the faction should not be seen as an opportunity to aggravate the crisis in the party.

They are asking the court to make a declaration that by virtue of the the party’s constitution, Mai Buni (second respondent), has no powers to discipline them.

They are demanding a further declaration that the disciplinary powers of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) could not be delegated to Buni or any other organ of the party.

The claimant’s asked the court to make an order setting aside their punishment, and issue a perpetual injunction restraining the respondents for interfering in their functions.

Other reliefs sought by the claimants are: “An order setting aside the purported expulsion of the first claimant (Oruminighe) by the second respondent as being unlawful, illegal, null and void by virtue of APC’s Constitution, 2014.

“An order setting aside the appointment of the first respondent (Fafi) as acting chairman, acting deputy chairman and acting secretary of APC, Bayelsa State chapter.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the respondents from interfering with, or abridging the duties, functions, privileges and rights of the claimants during the subsistence of their tenure as state chairman, state deputy chairman and state secretary of APC, Bayelsa chapter”.

Fafi, yesterday, said the state chapter was being restructured to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election.

He said the party, under his leadership, would overcome its challenges and emerge as the only platform for the people.

Speaking when the Bayelsa Federated Newspaper Publishers Association (BAFENPA) visited him at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa, the chairman said the PDP failed to develop the state despite being in power since beginning of the current democratic dispensation.

He lamented that the state has nothing to show for occupying the Presidency for over six years under the PDP.

“It is high time the people of Bayelsa State joined the ‘change wagon’. The collaboration among APC states has brought  much dividends to respective states in terms of agricultural production, manufacturing and other areas.

“Bayelsa State cannot afford to continue to play opposition politics.  That is why APC is the only viable option we have today in Bayelsa State”, he said.

He thanked BAFENPA  for the visit, saying the APC was ready to embrace everybody.

He said the party would organise a ceremony to receive various groups and individuals already showing interest to defect to the APC.

The Chairman, BAFENPA, Mr. Ayebaitari Easterday congratulated Fafi on his new position and pledged to support him.

  • ‘Why Ondo ACPN members were expelled’

The governorship candidate of the llied Congress of Nigeria (ACPN) in last year’s governorship election in Ondo State, Chief Adetunwo Ogunjumelo, has justified the expulsion of the party chairman, Bosun Omosule.

Ogunjumelo said the allegations against Omosule, particularly on  anti-party behaviours and mismanagement of party funds, led to his expulsion from the party.

He said: “Leaders and party supporters across the state resolved to expel the chairmanhim based on his alleged anti- party activities of romancing candidates of two major parties in the state and pretended to be too smart”

“The decision of the party members and the executive is supreme and must obey the order with immediate effect.

The ACPN flag bearer alleged that Omosule collected the sum of N1.42m from him as security allowance, which he diverted for his personal use.

Omosule had since last week been expelled from the party. But, he insisted that those who purportedly sacked him were not party executives as required by the law the and constitution of the party.

The embattled chairman added that the National Executive Committee(NEC) of the ACPN had cleared him of the allegations.

Sogunro spoke at the matriculation of 3,000 freshers at the School of Agriculture Auditorium last Thursday. The ceremony was attended by top members of management, parents and guardians.

The rector told the freshers to brace for the challenges ahead, saying the institution would not compromise its standards in favour of any student. He also advised them against joining groups not registered with the Students’ Affairs Unit of the polytechnic, adding that membership of unlawful club attracts severe sanction.

Speaking on the modality of admission, Sogunro said the polytechnic emphasised on academic competence in its selection process.

He said: “We have been strict in our selection process, because we are anxious about maintaining acceptable academic standard. We also want reasonable good candidates, and we try hard to produce good graduates who will be able to compete with their peers anywhere in the world.”

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olanrewaju Kuye, assured that the polytechnic would provide conducive environment for the students to attain their academic pursuits.

After the ceremony, it was all celebration outside the auditorium. Various fellowships on campus organised thanksgiving on behalf of the freshers. Prominent among them is the Redeemed Christian Fellowship (RCF), which organised a welcoming programme for the freshers.

  • AA sues 13 expelled members for slander

Oyo State chapter of the Action Alliance (AA) has dragged 13 expelled members of the party to court for misinforming the public about its leadership.

The 13 expelled members allegedly claimed the party did not hold a national convention.

Addressing reporters yesterday at the party secretariat in Providence Court, Mokola, Ibadan, the national leader of AA, Pastor Taiwo Otegbeye, noted the expelled members have been suspended since 2011, alleging they were being used by opposition parties to cause distraction.

He said: “They have been suspended from the party since 24th of November, 2011 for alleged anti-party activities, criminal diversion of party funds, flagrant disrespect for the party constitution and contravention of electoral provision as spelt out in the Electoral Act 2010 as amended, and the letter was issued by our headquarters.

According to him, the national convention of AA held on April 13 at the headquarters of the party in Abuja and new national officers were elected under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The national leader described the expelled members as a bunch of liars and men of shoddy characters, saying that the party has informed their legal adviser and they will be dragged to court to face the wrath of the law.

He said:” Our party, Action Alliance, has gone beyond this level of distraction and will not be deterred by a people who are going nowhere. “

  • PDP: why we expelled Agbi, Adegoroye, Adegoke, others

THE Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday alerted the public to the activities of some politicians recently expelled for anti-party activities.

They include: Olu Agbi, Ademola Adegoroye, Segun Adegoke, Kunle Agunbiade and Akin Olowokere.

The Deputy Director of Publicity of the Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation (OOCO), Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye, said in a statement that the politicians were reprimanded several times for anti-party activities and surreptitious romance with the Labour Party (LP) before they were expelled.

He said PDP expelled them because they have become a liability.

Ogunleye said: “A few of them have contested and failed repeatedly, while one of them served as a mole even while contesting the governorship seat in the state.

“We know a Professor of Diplomatic History among them who has refused to be guided by a sense of history. We equally know an old lawyer who has inherited the ill-luck of electoral failure.

“We are surprised that instead of showing remorse after their expulsion, these supposed gentlemen engaged in criminal activities by parading themselves as members of the PDP.

“In their usual manner, they were paid by Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to do a hatchet job. Part of the assignment, for which they have been paid, was to wear our vests, parade themselves as members of the PDP and declare for the outgoing Ondo State Governor.”
