Nigerians slam transgender over Facebook post

Nigerians took to Facebook to slam popular gay activist, Bisi Alimi over his post on his Facebook page.

In the post he referred to Nigeria as a “f—ked” up country living in hell and used as an experiment.

Alimi, known as the first ever Nigerian gay when he publicly declared his support for homosexuality said that the country “will go down soon unless the people stop prayer and start acting”.

After his comment was posted, Nigerians took to different social media platforms to respond to him.

    See the full post:

Nigeria is fucked and no amount of prayers can save that country. The shit there is real and unless the people stop prayer and start acting, it will go down soon. The country is not an experiment for f&*k sake….. I mean like really? And some idiots will come here now and start posting how their God is going to redeem them. Okay here is the thing, if there is indeed anything like HELL FIRE, it is down in Nigeria, where all Nigerians are roasting. So if you want to remind someone that they will go to HELL FIRE, when they die, you might as well link it to your current experience.

So here is the thing, a TV station wanting to do interview with me, booked me for 11:30am yesterday. We didn’t start the interview till around 15 mins to 3:00pm, because; there was no electricity, therefore all the earlier appointment to use the production room has to be moved back. Also they couldn’t find fuel to power the production room and the only fuel available is for transmission.

As if that was not enough, then, we got on skype and 5 mins into the interview, the connection went off. The internet is not working and that was for the rest of yesterday. We tried to do phone interview, but that didn’t work as the phone network was really bad.

We have started the routine again this morning. Now tell me, with the amount of BIBLE BASHING, SELF HATING, and DUMB ASS HYPOCRITES in that country, praying every day for salvation and MIRACLE, where really is their GOD? It is either he doesn’t exist, or he gave up on them 50 years ago. The fucking experiment is not working, STOP PRAYING and START ACTING and DEMANDING.

  • Facebook opens first African office

    Facebook opens first African office

Facebook has opened its first office in Africa to further the company’s commitment to help businesses connect with people and grow locally and regionally

Based in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, the company’s  newest business office will be headed by Ogilvy veteran, Nunu Ntshingila, the company’s new Head of Africa.

The office according to a statement by the company on Monday will support the significant growth in businesses and people using Facebook — Facebook’s active user population in Africa has grown 20% to 120 million in June 2015 from 100 million in September 2014.

More than 80% of these people access Facebook from their mobile phones.

“We are inspired by the incredible ways people and businesses in Africa use Facebook to connect. This momentum in Africa comes on top of strong advertiser partnerships and excellent adoption of our products across all regions. In Q1 2015, 52% of our total ad revenue came from outside the US and Canada. But we’re just getting started,” says Nicola Mendelsohn, VP, EMEA, Facebook.

“Mobile is not a trend; it’s the fastest development in communications we’ve ever seen. This couldn’t be more true in Africa – where so many people are mobile-only. This new office is a significant milestone for Facebook and our teams want to partner with businesses across the continent,” Mendelsohn adds.

“Africa is important to Facebook, and this office is a key part of our strategy to expand our investment and presence across EMEA. Facebook is already a central part of people’s lives in Africa, and with more than a billion people in Africa, we want to do more to help people and businesses connect.”

Helping businesses of all sizes to grow

“Our new African office will support our customers across the continent. We know that a one-size-fits-all approach won’t work when it comes to building products and solutions that address diverse needs on the continent, which is why we are committed to creating solutions tailored to people, businesses and specifically for African markets,” says Ari Kesisoglu, Regional Director, MEA at Facebook.

Kesisoglu continued, “Our priority for the next few months is to continue the work we are already doing with some clients in this region. We will work more closely with businesses and agencies to understand the challenges, so that we can build solutions that help grow their business. People increasingly want to be connected to the world around them and desire information about new services and products to better their lives. At the same time, businesses need stronger, more flexible and less fragmented ways of reaching people in Sub Saharan Africa. Our mission will be to connect brands and consumers in Africa, creating value for all parties in the process.”

Adds Mendelsohn: “We are delighted we have a strong leadership team in place on the continent led by Nunu Ntshingila, our new Head of Africa. Nunu will join our team in September of this year and work with businesses and agencies across the region.” Nunu helped drive the creation of Ogilvy’s network in Sub Saharan Africa, which spans some 27 countries. A graduate of the University of Swaziland and Morgan State University in the US, Ntshingila has also held senior positions at Nike and the South African Tourism board.

     Growth markets

Facebook will initially focus on growing its business in anchor countries in the major regions of Sub Saharan Africa:  Kenya (East Africa), Nigeria (West Africa), and South Africa (Southern Africa). Other supported territories include Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Mozambique and Ethiopia.

It will partner with governments, telecom operators, agencies and other stakeholders to deliver localised solutions to advertisers and users continent-wide. It will continue to focus on tailoring solutions, metrics and ad formats to the needs of customers and advertisers in the mobile-first, mobile-only African environment.

Charly Boy swarms Facebook with Afrocentric photos

Musician, actor, producer, and Area Fada, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, seems to be ever evolving. Last Tuesday, he posted creative Afrocentric pictures of himself, and his wife on Facebook, leading to a lot of comments on the social media website.

While some people praised the pictures for creativity, others slammed it for being eccentric, and unbefitting of his age, and status. Charly Boy will be 64 on June 19.

The six picture collages saw the couple in semi-nude postures in various settings. In a collage titled ‘The first temptation of Eden’,  Lady Di is seen with an apple, while Charly Boy presents, as Adam, in a replication of the biblical story of the Eden garden. Another collage has the couple on a hay stack, also clutching a baby. In a third collage, they are clothed in Egyptian style, with make-up to match. In some other shots, Charly boy also strikes a pose as a Roman fighter, complete with a sword.

Alongside the pictures, Oputa also posted a poem written by his daughter, Miss Dewy Oputa, eulogising her family’s romantic affiliations.

‘For over 37 years, they have been mirrors to each other,’ Dewy Oputa wrote.

‘Looking at the following pictures one can understand the soulfulness of this union.

May the love that they exude expand our perception of what a soul mate really is.

I have witnessed my grandparents holding hands till my grandfather (Justice Oputa) passed on.

I have watched my parents Charles/Diane carry on as two inseparable buddies, bound together by an unusual friendship, not hinged on attraction or sexuality.

I pray that I too will eventually find a soulmate who will be my best friend.’

Charly Boy, a grandfather, achieved national fame as President of Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and producer cum presenter of ‘Zoom Time’, a celebrity lifestyle magazine television program which ran on national television in the late 90s, and early 2000s.

  • Beware of facebook scam, Lagos warns

The Lagos State Government Tuesday called on residents of the State to be wary of a facebook scam whereby some unscrupulous persons are using the photographs of Governor Babatunde Fashola, and ascribing fictitious statements to him on fake Facebook accounts aimed at defrauding innocent citizens.

Scammers have been issuing out series of Facebook comments and information in the name of the Governor with the intention of duping unsuspecting members of the public.

A statement by the Governor’s Special  Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello,  said the conmen have, through Facebook, been urging citizens to apply for some existing government facilities or utilities meant to benefit the public but to which some agencies of government have been given the responsibility to manage.

The Government warned that such information must be emanating from people out to defraud members of the public adding that government businesses such as Home ownership by mortgage and pilgrimage are purely conducted on the authentic websites and other social media outlets managed by agencies of the State Government with assigned responsibilities in different areas.

One of such information titled, “Disbursement of Subsidy Dividend (SURE-P)” purported to have been issued by the Governor is informing “Citizens that Subsidy proceed is available for Agro and commercial business”, and asking them to “Apply for soft loan with no collateral, zero percent interest rate and flexible terms”.

While advising citizens to always clarify with the appropriate agencies of Government before embarking on any dealings with people purportedly working for the State Government, the Government warned those involved in the nefarious act to desist or be ready to face the wrath of the law when it catches up with them.

New boy, Christian Ighodaro Osaguona, also showed signs that he has a future with the team, with smart play when given the ball in front of goalkeepers. But the man who stole the show on the evening was El-kanemi goalkeeper, David Obiozor, who was having his first training session with the team. He dived, parried and clutched balls to the delight of hundreds of fans who turned out to watch the team’s training under very clement weather in Calabar.

Facebook: Amosun faults Okada man’s arraignment

Governor  Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State  has dissociated himself from the arraignment of an Okada rider, Wasiu Ogunnoiki,  at the Sagamu Magistrate Court 1 and his subsequent remanding  in a prison custody for alleged publications on facebook.

A Magistrate court 1 sitting in Sagamu, had on Tuesday, heard the case of Mr Wasiu Ogunnoiki (31) who was arraigned before it for engaging in an acts capable of denting the image of the governor on the facebook.

He was accused of engaging in acts that contravened Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code, volume II Laws of Ogun state 2006 by publishing on his facebook account that Governor Amosun demolished houses in the state without compensating affected property owners and in manners that could incite the citizens against the Governor.

But on Wednesday, Amosun said he could not find a single correlation between the offence for which Ogunnoiki was charged and what he was  alleged to have done.

He directed the state’s Ministry of Justice to look into matter and ensure that the man’s fundamental human rights are not further infringed upon.

In a statement issued by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu, Amosun noted that while his administration does not want to encourage indiscipline and abuse of rights, it will also not tolerate the infringement of rights of any citizen.

The statement reads in part: “the attention of Ogun State Government has been drawn to a report in the newspapers stating that an Okada rider in Sagamu has been charged to court and consequently remanded in prison custody for denting Governor ibikunle Amosun’s image on Facebook.

“I state categorically that the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun knows absolutely nothing about the allegations levelled against the Okada rider and the court case. The governor knew about the case only after reading the report in the newspapers.

“The governor consequently dissociate himself entirely from the any such action taken against the said Okada rider or indeed against any other person in that regard.
Senator Amosun, being a true democrat believes that all citizens are entitled to freedom of expression as enshrined in the Constitution of Nigeria.

“As the Chief Law Officer of the state, upon becoming aware of the report, I have examined the provisions of the law under which the Okada rider was allegedly charged to court and cannot find a single correlation between the offence for which he was charged and what he is alleged to have done.

“Nevertheless, the Governor has immediately directed the Ministry of Justice to urgently look into the matter to prevent the infringement of the Okada rider’s fundamental rights and bring an end to his continued remand in custody.
