    Court remands ‘Black Axe’ member accused of murder

    An Oshogbo Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 27-year-old black Axe member, Adewunmi Adeyinka, in Ilesa prison for alleged murder.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Aishat Olayade, ordered the remand of the accused in prison because of the magnitude of the alleged offence.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug.5 at about 6:50 p.m at Old Garage Area in Osogbo.

    Abiodun said that the accused, with others now at large, conspired together to kill one Bintu Anifiwose by shooting him with a gun without any just cause.

    He said that the accused also belonged to an unlawful society called Black Axe confraternity.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 324, 516, 64(a)(b) and 316 punishable under section 319(9) of the Criminal Code cap 34 vol.11 laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to unlawful society and murder.

    The plea of the accused was not taken and the Magistrate adjourned the case till Nov. 6.

  • Man jailed seven years for burglary

    A 30-year-old man, Olajide Adeshina, was on Thursday sentenced to seven years imprisonment by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for burglary.

    Adeshina was convicted of the three charges of burglary, theft and fraud brought against him.

    The convict, who pleaded guilty, had no legal representation.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Fatimoh Sodamade, did not give Adeshina any option of fine.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had earlier told the court that the convict committed the offence on Oct. 19, 2016 at about 12:00a.m at Ofatedo area in Osogbo.

    Abiodun said the convict broke into the apartment of one Egynlola Adewunmi and carted away a Dell laptop, HP laptop, X- Touch phone and a school bag containing GTBank ATM and a total sum of N30, 000.

    He said Adeshina used the stolen phone to fraudulently transfer the sum of N37, 000 from the complainant’s bank account to his personal account.

    “Adeshina had been a serial house breaker and was also convicted twice before he committed same offence again,” the prosecutor told the court.

    Abiodun said the offences committed contravened sections 411(1), and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. 11 laws of Osun, 2003.

     

  • Man docked over alleged assault in Osun

    A 33-year-old man, Wasiu Banji, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

    Banji is facing a one-count charge of assault.

    The Prosecutor, Insp Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 12 at about 7:30 pm  at Ikolaba , Aromole area of  Osogbo.

    Abiodun said the accused, who was engaged in an argument  with the complainant,  Ogundare Daniel,  over money, resorted to self-help  and  inflicted injuries on him  with a  cutlass.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code,  Cap 34,   Vol. 11, Laws of  Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however,  pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

    The defence counsel, Mr Promise Jones, prayed the court  to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

    The magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with  two sureties in like sum.

    Aluko, who  said  the sureties must reside within the court’s  jurisdiction, also ordered them to show  evidence of tax payment as well as present  two passports size photographs  attached with an affidavit of means.

    The case was adjourned till May 30 for mention.

     

  • Man jailed six months for burglary

    An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a security guard, Mustapha Hammed, to six months imprisonment for burgling his employer’s office and stealing N14, 500.

    Magistrate Habibatu Bashiru found Hammed, 29, guilty on a two-court charge of burglary and theft following his guilty plea.

    Bashir, however, gave Hammed an option of N10,000 fine.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had submitted that Hammed burgled the office of Art Deco Interior Furniture Nig. Ltd. in Agunbelewo, Osogbo on April 9 and made away with the sum.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 412 and 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

    Hammed’s counsel, Mr Promise Jones, had prayed for leniency.
