    NNPC disowns fake recruitment adverts

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has, for the umpteenth time, reiterated that it has not launched a recruitment campaign of any kind for now.

The latest clarification is coming on the heels of a fresh recruitment advert purportedly from the Corporation being circulated by e-mails and on various social media platforms.

A statement by the Corporation’s spokesman, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, disclosed that the advert which is on a fake letterhead complete with NNPC logo is purportedly signed by the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, and the Chief Operating Officer, Refineries, Mr. Anibor Kragha, and directs unsuspecting applicants to send their applications to a fake e-mail address: nnpccareersrecruitment@gmail.com.

Shedding more light on the scam, Mr. Ughamadu said another form of the scam involved text messages, e-mails, and letters inviting gullible job seekers for fake job interviews at the NNPC Towers and other locations across the country with a view to extorting money from them.

He called on members of the public, especially applicants, to discountenance any of such adverts or spurious invitations for job interviews as the Corporation was currently not recruiting, stressing that anyone who entertains such invitations does so at his or her own risk.

Mr. Ughamadu advised that anyone contacted for the purpose of the fake recruitment should not hesitate to report such invitations to relevant law enforcement agencies, adding that the Corporation would continue to engage security agencies on the scam.

He said NNPC Management under the leadership of Dr. Maikanti Baru would sustain the prevailing culture of transparency and accountability which has witnessed the conduct of open public bidding in sourcing for contractors and suppliers of goods and services for its day-to-day operations, including recruitment exercises, stressing that NNPC will advertise all vacant positions in national newspapers whenever it was ready to recruit.

Police arrest fake recruitment syndicate in Edo

A syndicate that has duped hundreds of Niger Delta youths with a promise to secure jobs for them under the Federal Ethnic Council has been smashed by the Edo State Police Command.

The syndicate sold recruitment forms to their victims for N15,000 after making them to pay N2,000 registration fee.

It reportedly told its victims that they would be recruited by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and will work under the Communities Security Operation Department.

Syndicate leader, who gave his name as Prince Oyibo Emmanuel, was nabbed in Benin where he came to address some youths.

He was paraded with two of his members, Director of Women Affairs Oyibo Enonegberu and Secretary Etsede Emmanuel.

Prince Oyibo, who said he was leader and commander of the group, said the Federal Ethnic Council was for youths in oil and gas producing areas in Niger Delta to work as security operatives.

Oyibo said he didn’t need to register the organisation because it was recognised by the Ministry of Niger Delta.

He said: “We don’t keep the money we collect because the money is used to keep peace in oil and gas producing communities. We have many communities that recommended their youths. I did not register the company. It was the Federal Government that gave directive at a stakeholders meeting. I represent all ethnic nationalities. To register is N1,000. We are recognised but it is the Federal Government that will train them and give them jobs.”

Etsede, who claimed to be an artisan, said his friend told him about the supposed Federal Government job.

He said he paid them N15,000 for the form and they issued him an ID card pending the job’s availability.

“Last Saturday, I was called by the commander that he want to address the people that applied in Edo State. After his address, there was an argument and the people demanded refund. They called for police and he was arrested.”

“I was not paid any money. They said I should wait till the job is ready. We don’t do any security operation. I have not followed them. The commander has a secretary, director and deputy director in Edo State.”

The director of Women Affairs said she was nabbed when she came to give them food at the police station.

Police Commissioner Haliru Gwandu said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

  • DSS on trail of people behind fake recruitment of operatives

The Department of State Security (DSS) said yesterday it was looking for ”fraudsters” using its name to extort money from Nigerians seeking to be recruited as DSS operatives.

The organization vowed that the culprits would be dealt with if apprehended.

The DSS, in a statement entitled “SSS, NOT RECRUITING” and signed by its spokesman, Tony Opuiyo, declared that ”it is not currently employing or carrying out any form of exercise in that regard.”

It added:”The public may note that in the event that the Service recruits, it does not charge money for that purpose.

“The public is, therefore, advised to be wary of these fraudulent persons and groups whose stock in trade has remained the spread of falsehood and engagement in impersonation.

“The Service further warns that it will, in accordance with the law, not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone caught in the act of impersonating it.

“While efforts have been sustained at uncovering the network of these fraudsters, the public is enjoined to pass relevant information relating to this to the nearest Service Command.”

NNPC raises alarm over fake recruitment

The Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has raised the alarm on the existence of some dubious syndicates with specialty in extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the pretext of a purported recruitment exercise and promise of phantom job placements in the Corporation.

The Corporation in a release by its Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ndu Ughmadu, said the NNPC at this time is not conducting any recruitment exercise noting that the Corporation would advertise vacant positions whenever it has need to embark on a recruitment exercise.

Throwing more light on the method of operation of the fake job syndicate, the NNPC explained that the group deploys various means ranging from text messages, social media platforms and forged letters to invite gullible job seekers for non-existing  job interviews after ostensibly extorting money from them.

‘’To this end, we wish to once again appeal to members of the public, particularly unsuspecting applicants to be wary of fraudulent invitations for job interviews at the NNPC Towers. Anyone who entertains such invitations or deals with peddlers of such invitation does so at his or her own risk,’’ the NNPC stated.

The Corporation noted that anyone contacted for the purpose of the purported recruitment other than through advertisement duly placed by the Corporation in national newspapers, should not hesitate to report such invitations to relevant law enforcement agencies.

The statement emphasized the determination of the NNPC Management under the leadership of Dr. Maikanti Baru to sustain the prevailing gale of transparency and accountability which has witnessed the conduct of open public bidding in sourcing for contractors and suppliers of goods and services for its day-to-day operational requirements.

NSCDC warns against fake recruitment exercise

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), is to train 2, 500 of its old staff to further ensure the Corps’ security preparedness. NSCDC Commandant General, (CG), Muhammadu Abdullahi, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja during an exclusive interview with The Nation.
Abdullahi also refuted what he described as rumor that the corps is recruiting adding that anyone that is defrauded should not hold the corps liable. He also advised Nigerians to be security conscious with assurance that NSCDC will not leave any stone unturned to secure critical infrastructure.
The NSCDC boss disclosed that the corps is effectively complimenting the efforts of the police and military in curbing criminal acts. His words: “We are not employing and we are not doing any replacement. I was asked the same question when I went for budget defense in the House of Representatives.
“What we are doing is that we are training our old staff. And very soon we will train about 2, 500 officers in Kaduna and deports. When Nigerians see our men training in white shorts everyone will assume that we are recruiting. We do not recruit through the website, or social media.
“When is time for recruitment, we will use the print media, that is what we normally do. Our adverts will be in at least five daily newspapers. It is then you will know that we are recruiting.”
