  • Terrorism: Police to reactivate intelligence bureau

As part of measures to contain terrorism and insecurity in the country, the Nigeria police has set up modalities to reactivate its intelligence bureau.

The new Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Two, Bala Hassan, made this disclosure on Monday while assuming duties at the headquarters in Lagos.

Hassan, who was received by the state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, his Ogun State counterpart, Abdulmajid Ali, as well as other commissioners and senior officers in the zone, said the bureau will help in keeping criminal elements off the zone.

He noted that aside the continuous collaboration with other security agencies, the police will ensure it generates all necessary intelligence to intercept people with questionable characters before they enter the zone.

He said: “We are still partnering with other security services. We know that we cannot do it alone. We will partner with the Nigerian Army and the DSS. I will also visit the other military commands, the Nigerian Customs Service and Nigerian Immigration Service.

“So that when we put our heads together, we will be able to make headway.

“As for allowing people of questionable characters to invade Lagos, we have the Zonal Intelligence Bureau. These units are replicated in the states as the State Intelligence Bureau.

“We are going to reactivate that unit so that when we partner other security agencies, it will reduce the influx of such people with questionable characters and people who disrupt the peace of this zone.”

He vowed to ensure that careless deaths of policemen were reduced to barest minimum, assuring of sustained partnership with the various communities to track down cops’ killers.
