Jamiu, who hails from the town, was the Senior Special Assistant on Research and Documentation during the first term of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

“Nigeria can’t return to looters again. We can’t go back to a darkest period when our commonwealth was being sabotage by few individuals; that is why President Buhari continuity is a necessity.

“Governor Fayemi can’t be a governor in Ekiti and begin to go to Abuja to beg before things are done for Ekiti, when he can easily get such easily done with President Buhari occupying the seat of power. So, Ekiti electorate must make the right choice in the presidential and other elections to sustain the pace of development in the state.

“President Buhari, our senatorial candidate in Ekiti Central Opeyemi Bamidele, the House of Representatives candidate in Ekiti Central Constituency 1, Mr. Sola Fatoba and Alhaji Akeem Jamiu must win, because their past records and achievements are monumental.”

Addressing the crowd, Jamiu said the entire Igbemo community was cut off from the rest of Ekiti and short-changed from enjoying the benefits of government under Fayose.

He promised that he would transform his constituency, if given the opportunity to serve as a member of the state assembly, by initiating and sponsoring bills that would improve on the wellbeing of the populace.

  • Ewi to honour Fayemi’s wife

    Ewi to honour Fayemi’s wife

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, will on Saturday confer the chieftaincy title of Eye Ajiseye on the governor’s wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi.

The monarch fixed February 15, next year, for the conferment of the Eyetuase of Ado-Ekiti on a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Mrs. Olufunke Adekeye.

Oba Adejugbe told reporters yesterday that Erelu Fayemi will be honoured for impacting positively on the lives of the people through her Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Ekiti Development Foundation (EDF).

The monarch said the community’s chieftaincy titles were not for all comers, saying that informed the small number of individuals that had been conferred with honourary titles over the years.

Oba Adejugbe said the two women were chosen after a study of their pedigree and contributions to the development of the community, adding: “The royal seat of the Ewi has been associated with dignity, distinction, high moral and cultural values and spirituality. I wish to reiterate the fact that it is not a matter of empty pride, when we say Ado-Ekiti titles are not for all comers.

“A cursory assessment of our awardees in the past will show that they have remained constant in their pedigree and have intensified their humanitarian activities in and beyond their respective domains.”

He said Erelu Fayemi had done a lot to uplift the womenfolk, saying she was not considered for a chieftaincy title because her husband is the governor but because of her numerous works in rights activism.

Oba Adejugbe said Justice Adekeye exhibited rare qualities in the discharge of her duties when she served in Ado-Ekiti as a high court judge, adding: “This strong woman of repute knows the worth of the traditional institution. I recall that at some point, three of the four cases before her were returned to the traditional council for advice and suggestion that they were better handled by the council, rather than the courts.”

He appealed for the understanding of those who have not been honoured, explaining that many people were qualified for chieftaincy titles.
