  • Fayrouz L’Original 2 winners storm LDFW 2015

    WINNERS of the second edition of Fayrouz L’Original competition, Team Meddlelane have joined top designers in the Nigerian Fashion industry to showcase their designs at the Lagos Design Fashion Week which kicked off on Wednesday.

    Making the announcement, Senior Brand Manager, Fayrouz, Nnenna Ifebigh-Hemeson said; “We are pleased to give Team Meddlelane this great opportunity to showcase their work alongside top designers in the Nigerian fashion scene. The team paid close attention to detail and suggestions from mentors Mai Atafo, Kelech Amadi-Obi & House of Tara during and after the competition, and their dedication and zeal is gradually paying off.

    “Fayrouz L’Original is focused on building young and creative individuals to become the best in the Fashion and Lifestyle industry and beyond. The winners of the first L’Original edition, Team Elan have since become major players in their fields especially the designer, Temitayo Nathan and Model, Toyin Oyeneye who have since featured on international platforms like the Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week SA and the London Fashion Week. We cannot wait to see what Team Meddlelane has in store for the LFDW runway.”

    Team Meddlelane who emerged winners at the star-studded L’Original finale held July 25, going home with 4 million Naira alongside numerous fashion opportunities. The group is expected to display their work on the Lagos Fashion and Design Week runway alongside major designers like Mai Atafo, Kunbi Oyelese, Orange Culture, Jewel by Lisa, Kinabuti among others.

    The Lagos Fashion and Design Week is a fashion event that creates a platform for African designers to showcase their collections annually and seek out various opportunities as well as International buyers for designers in Nigeria and beyond. The 2015 edition of the LDFW ends today.

    Team Meddlelane wins Fayrouz L’Original show

    With a potpourri of highly creative artistry, fans of the arts such as make-up, runway show, fashion designing and photography, had so much to behold on Saturday night, as the much-publicised Fayrouz L’Original contest entered its last lap.

    The mood of the event, which held at the Ballroom of Lagos Oriental Hotel, was that of appreciation for young talents who have wowed the crowd with their works, attracting top Nigerian fashion personalities.

    The show featured two finalists; Team Meddlelane and Team Hai, who took their turns to dazzle judges and fashion lovers with exquisite designs, showcasing same on the runway.

    It was the second edition of the show, and the contestants were mandated to create their works in line with the theme, Enchanted. And although both teams enthralled the audience with glitz and glamour, Team Meddlelane’s works took the day.

    Meddlelane, comprising of students from the University of Lagos defeated Hai from the Obafemi Awolowo University, thereby walking away with the coveted prize of N4million. Team Hai also received N1.5million for their effort. Both teams also went home with MacBook laptops as well as cameras for each photographer.

    The finalists, according to the organisers, will also enjoy opportunities such as free showcase of their designs at the Lagos International Design Fashion Week, just like winners of the maiden edition, Team Elan, who are currently doing exploits in their chosen careers.

    According to the jury , the choice of Team Meddlelane as winner was in recognition of the team’s display of originality, creativity and the confidence in which they displayed the Enchanted theme in their creation. The jurors include ace photographer, Kelechi Amadi-Obi, make-up expert, Rhema Akabuogu from House of Tara and creative fashion designers, Mai Atafo and Kunbi Oyelese.

    ‘Success in the fashion world is based on how creative you can be and this is the yardstick with which we have been judging the competition from inception. Not just that, the confidence in which you defend your creativity also matters, we have found all of these in Team Meddlelane which is why they are winners of the competition’, Atafo explained.

    “Tonight has turned out amazing, not just for the participants but also for the Fayrouz brand because for the second year in a row, we are celebrating originality, which is a key message of the Fayrouz brand,” said Nnenna Ifebigh-Hemeson, Senior Brand Manager, Fayrouz, who spoke shortly after the event.

    “We are proud of the results tonight and we are sure Team Meddlelane will make great waves moving forward.”

    Adding to the excitement, popular hip hop artiste Kiss Daniel, thrilled guests with his hit tracks – Woju and Laye. Performing after him with energetic dance steps was EME song bird, Niyola, whos sang some of her popular songs like Toh Bad. Triple MG singer, Iyanya, wrapped up the night with some of his old songs.

    Red carpet host for the night and celebrity mixologist, Zainab Balogun, spoke to beautifully dressed guests who followed the theme of the night. She also excited guests with skillful mixes of various Fayrouz cocktails including Fay Martini, Dirty Fayrouz, Omoge, Virgin Royalty, Ultimate Lady, Tattoo, Implication and Champaigne De Fayrouz.

    Finalists battle for Fayrouz L’Original

    THE battle for which team wins the second edition of Fayrouz L’Original comes to a finale tonight at the ballroom of the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Lagos. The contest sees two teams – Hai from Ibadan and Meddlelane from Lagos – slogging it out to find out who carts home the N4m prize money as well as other goodies.

    The two teams, each made up of four individuals  a designer, a photographer, a make-up artiste and a model  emerged finalists from 900 similarly composed teams from across the country who competed in auditions which held in Ibadan, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Lagos between May and June.

    While Team Hai is composed of students from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Team Meddlelane is composed of students from University of Lagos.

    The jury of this year’s edition consists of Kunbi Oyelese of April by Kunbi, fashion designer Mai Atafo, celebrated photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi and make-up artiste Rhema Akabuogu of House of Tara.

    According to the jury, teams were given themes to work with during the auditions and winners were selected based on their ability to interpret the given themes.

    One of the judges, designer Mai Atafo said the competition gives each individual an understanding of the four creative expressions.

    “A fashion designer understands photography, make-up and modelling, the make-up designer understands fashion, photography and modelling. So they understand every other part because any of those people alone would need to understand every other part very well to succeed,” he said.

    With Enchanted being the theme of the finale, senior brand manager of Fayrouz, Nnenna Ifebigh- Hemeson, said, “you can be rest assured, it will be something different.”

    Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries, Kufre Ekanem, urged that the finalists be showcased for their talents.

    Aside winning the N4m cash, winners of the Fayrouz L’Original, also get one-year mentorship from the jury members. Already, the eight finalists have been given Macbooks to help further their professional productivity. This is in addition to a supply of Fayrouz soft drink. Just in its second edition, the competition has witnessed an embrace by the youth population as entries increased from 400 teams last year to 900 teams this year.

    Fayrouz L’Originall is a creative expression competition targeted at empowering undergraduates, fresh graduates as well as members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with talents in modelling, designing, photography and make-up artistry. It is sponsored by Fayrouz, a natural premium drink from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Ltd.

    IT will be a gathering of the biggest names in the Nigerian fashion industry, as 10 top designers have signed up for the maiden edition of the Fayrouz L’Original expression show.

    Mai Atafo, April by Kunbi and Kinabuti will be leading a team of top fashion houses, designers, stylists and celebrity photographers like Omoyemi Akerele, Adebayo Oke-Lawal, Gozel Green, Kate Williams, Nobel Afrik, Martha Warebi and Micheal Imomoh at the competition.

    According to the organizers, these creative minds will come together to select the best style team for the Fayrouz L’Original competition while mentoring them.

    With Omoyemi Akerele as art director for the competition, the grand finale judges and mentors include Ohimai Atafo, Olakunbi Oyelese of April by Kunbi as well as Kinabuti, while Adebayo Oke-Lawal, founder of Orange Culture, Kate Williams, Sylvia and Olivia Enekwe will act as regional judges.

    Other fashion personalities expected at the event include consultant and mentor, Prince Idowu Akanni Oyefusi; Catwalk choreographer, Warebi Martha and Michael Imomoh, who is the official photographer for the competition.

    Since the registration for the competition kicked off on Monday, a number of young designers, photographers, models, stylists around different Nigerian universities have entered for the competition, hoping to use the opportunity to showcase their sense of styles and originality.

    The Fayrouz L’Original Expression is expected to discover and promote different teams of four creative minds, which consist of a fashion designer, makeup artiste, photographer and model. These teams will create original designs to win the sum of $20,000 as well as many fashion opportunities of a lifetime.

    Fayrouz L’Original: Organisers hunt for best style team on campuses

    Following the launch of the Fayrouz L’Original Expression themed “Party for the Originals” in 2013, the organisers  have announced the search for the best fashion and lifestyle team in Nigeria.

    In a statement, Nigerian Breweries Plc., organisers of the event, stated that the Fayrouz L’Original Expression show had been put together to discover and promote young and talented fashion-conscious undergraduates in universities across Nigeria.

    The competition involves four different teams comprising fashion designers, makeup artistes, photographers and models coming together to create original ensembles. They will battle for the prize money of $20,000 and fashion opportunities.

    The contest, which began last week, features various prominent individuals who have carved a niche for themselves in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle industry.

    The judges include Mai Atafo of Mai Atafo Inspired, Kunbi Oyelese of April By Kunbi, Warebi Martha of Catwalk Productions and Nobel Afrik.  The art direction, however, will be done by Omoyemi Akerele of Style House Files.

    Online judges, who will also select the final 10 contending teams, include the Orange Culture, Gozel Green and Kate Williams, among others.

    A regional show for the final 10 teams will be held in Enugu, while the grand finale will take place in July in Lagos.
