    FCMB reports fire incident at Lagos Island branch

    First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has confirmed a fire incident on Monday February 26 on the 7th floor of its office at Macarthy Street, Lagos Island. 

    The incident, it said, occurred by 6:10pm 

    A statement by Group Head Corporate Affairs of FCMB Diran Olojo said: “We are grateful to the men of the Nigerian Fire Service for their swift response in containing the fire.

    “We are pleased to report that all FCMB employees have been evacuated safely, and there were no injuries.

    “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

    This year, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) celebrated Valentine’s Day with a unique expression of love, reaching out to hundreds of visually impaired students and adults at two schools and two centres in Lagos, Nigeria.

    Titled “A Different Kind of Love,” the initiative reflects FCMB’s dedication to inclusivity and empowerment. The bank donated N5 million, white canes, essential food items, and household materials to the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind Vocational Training Centre in Oshodi. Similar donations of white canes, food items, and household materials were made to the Bethesda Home for the Blind in Mushin, Pacelli School for the Blind in Surulere, and Nigeria Farmcraft Centre for the Blind in Isheri-Olofin.

    Students and teachers expressed their heartfelt appreciation to FCMB for the thoughtful and inclusive celebrations.

    Akinjide Akinpelu, a visually impaired teacher at the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind Vocational Training Centre, expressed his gratitude for FCMB’s consistent support for the centre and its kindness towards the visually impaired community.

    Badru Asif, a student at the Pacelli School for the Blind, expressed his deep appreciation to FCMB for organizing the Valentine’s Day program. He acknowledged and appreciated the bank’s efforts, offering prayers for its continued success.

    Emeka Okeke, a student at the Bethesda School for the Blind, shared his inspiring story of overcoming blindness to pursue higher education. The graduate of the University of Lagos expressed his gratitude on behalf of his peers for the gifts and the unique Valentine’s Day celebration.

    Similar sentiments of appreciation were echoed by Ahmed Ishola Kareem of Bethesda Home for the Blind and Omoniyi Sule of the Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind Vocational Training Centre in Oshodi.

    “We are grateful to FCMB for being a strong pillar of support,” Mr. Oke said. “The donations will ensure the welfare of our students and support teaching and learning.”

    The Principal of the Nigeria Farmcraft Centre for the Blind, Mr. Mohammed Afegbua, described the FCMB gesture as a timely Valentine’s Day gift. He commended the students’ positive response to their academic routine and thanked FCMB for spreading love.

    With over 4 million Nigerians reported to be blind or visually impaired, FCMB remains committed to addressing this challenge. In 2009, the bank partnered with the Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF) to initiate the Priceless Gift of Sight program.     First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has launched an accelerator programme to upskill and grow over one million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. Partnering with SkillPaddy and other industry experts, the bank aims to equip startups and existing businesses with the skills and resources to develop innovative products and services, create new markets and fast-track their growth.

    The bank aims to upskill about one million SMEs through a Technical Assistance grant of ₦284.7 million from Proparco (the private-sector arm of the French Development Agency) and another ₦227 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB). These will enable FCMB to facilitate the successful onboarding and empowerment of SMEs, including women entrepreneurs, under its SheVentures proposition and those operating in high-impact sectors (agriculture, renewable energy, digital).

    To kick off the programme, First City Monument Bank awarded ₦50 million in grants to 200 SMEs who participated in the first training session. This announcement was made at an event celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week 2023.

    “The FCMB Accelerator Programme reaffirms our dedication to empowering businesses effectively,” said George Ogbonnaya, FCMB’s Group Head of SME banking. “We want to inspire Nigerians to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams and build a portfolio of ready businesses that can transform Nigeria’s economy.”

    Four customers of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) became instant millionaires at the final draws of Millionaire Promo Season 9.

    They each won N1 million during the grand finale draws supervised by Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) officials and National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) in Abuja, Lagos, Ondo, and Port Harcourt.

    Season 9 of the millionaire promo, which ran from April to November, gifted 2,310 lucky customers of the Bank cash prizes ranging from N5,000 to N1 million respectively. Of this, ten lucky customers were rewarded with N1 million each. A total of 14,780 customers also won various consolation prizes, bringing the total number of winners to 17,080.

    The nationwide promo encouraged people to save for financial security, future planning, and investment opportunities, which will reduce their reliance on social assistance, helping them build a brighter future.

    Affirming this, Thompson Akinnodi, a civil servant from Ondo State, said: “The FCMB Millionaire promo shows the bank keeps its promises.” He was happy that the winners were chosen openly.     Onuoha Harol, a businessman from Port Harcourt, was pleasantly surprised, saying: “This N1 million is a fantastic Christmas gift!” He thanked FCMB and plans to invest it in his block industry and real estate business. He plans to employ more people and grow his business. Onuoha recommends banking with FCMB for success.

    Mrs Omoye Oyakhire from Lagos, another N1 million winner, thanked FCMB and said: “I’m excited! I’ll use the money for poultry farming.” She said FCMB is the right Bank, and its Millionaire Promo is genuine”.

    4,000 customers benefit from FCMB millionaire promo

    The First City Monument Bank (FCMB) said no fewer than 4,000 customers of the bank have benefited from the FCMB Millionaire Promo Season since its inauguration in 2013 across the country.

    The Zonal Head of the FCMB in charge of Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun and Ekiti states, Mr Matthew Ofolue, stated this in Ondo, Ondo State during the FCMB Millionaire Promo Season 9 Grand Finale Draw yesterday.

    Ofolue said that among the gifts won in the promo were cars, cash of millions of naira, television sets, power generating sets, refrigerators, phones and TV cable decoders.

    He stated that the bank had transformed thousand of lives of Nigerians through the promo, saying that the FCMB was committed to offer the very best of products and services in the retail banking space and also deliver excellent services that would ensure the achievement of the aspirations of its customers.

     The Zonal Head noted that the FCMB Millionaire Promo Season 9 was an extension of the bank’s previous promos, saying that it was designed to give extra value and reward to the bank’s customers, while encouraging financial inclusion and saving culture in the country.

    According to him, the promo is targeted at all segments of the society, especially existing and potential savings account customers of the bank with exclusion of salary and domiciliary account holders.

    Ofolue said that the selection of winners was done electronically and the promo draw was being done simultaneously at all the 20 zones and four regions that make up FCMB across the country.

    He said the Season Promo 9 had given N5,000 to 20 customers each, N10,000 to 10 customers each, N20,000 to 10 customers each, N50,000 to four customers each and N100,000 to two customers each.

    The zonal head added  that the Season 9 Promo had 47 winners of cash prize with a winner going home with N1 million while 432 customers went home with various prizes.

    Appreciating the initiative, Mr Thompson Akinyosade , who won the N1 million prize, said that the promo would increase the bank’s customers.

    “The promo no doubt will increase patronage of people coming to FCMB because there is confidence that this is a bank that makes promises and fulfill them. This is a fulfilled promise.

    “I will use this money to fund my children education.  I thank God and FCMB for the gesture,” he said.

    Also Temidayo Kuteji, who won N100,000, said that the process of selection was open and transparent to everybody.

    Kuteji promised that he would be the ambassador of the bank, telling people to patronize it.

    He stated that he would use the money to cater for his family’s needs at the Christmas.

    In her words, Mrs Grace Funmilayo Ademiloye, who also won N100,000, described FCMB as a reliable and dependable bank, thanking the bank for the initiative which she said was timely.

    Ademiloye said that as a Christian she would pay her tithe of N10,000 from the money and use the remaining one for undisclosed needs.
