    FCMB deepens CSR initiatives

    First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has continued to demonstrate its passion and commitment to the welfare of the physically challenged in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability initiatives.

    The lender has sponsored Mr. Folawiyo Adisa, a para-badminton player, to participate at the first International Para-Badminton Championship organised by Houston Badminton Centre, USA last month.

    This marked the eight consecutive year the bank has been supporting the multiple Africa and world gold medalist in the sport.

    According to FCMB’s Group Head, Corporate Communications & CSR, Mrs. Uchenna Mojekwu, the bank’s support to Mr. Adisa stems from its belief that in every disability, there is ability.

    ‘’We acknowledge his exploits in the game of para-badminton over the years. As a bank driven by the culture of excellence, we will continue to encourage him and other physically challenged individuals to realise their dreams and bring more laurels to the country’’.

    ‘’FCMB has been a great pillar of support and motivation. The Bank’s support to me since 2008 has encouraged other physically challenged people to believe in themselves through the platform that badminton and other sports provide’’, Adisa said.

  • FCMB rewards millionaire promo winners

    Another set of 643 customers of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited have been rewarded at the second draws of the Bank’s ongoing promotion tagged, ‘’FCMB Millionaire Promo’’.

    The winners emerged at the electronic selection which took place across the three regions and 25 zones of the bank nationwide held last week. While three customers of the bank were rewarded with the sum of N1 million each at the regional draws held in Akure (Ondo State); Awka (Anambra State) and Abuja, a total of 640 others smiled home with LED televisions, generating sets, decoders, tablets, smart phones and other consolation prizes at the Zonal draws held in different parts of the country.

    At the Lagos/Southwest Regional draw which took place in Akure, Mr. Abdulkadiri Olorunjuwon, got the reward of N1 million, while at the Abuja/North Regional draw held in Abuja, Mr. Isaiah Abari received the same amount while Mr. Odia Osasumwen won N1 million at the Southeast/ Southsouth Regional draw that took place at Awka.

    The FCMB Millionaire Promo, which began  in February and ran till July, is targeted at all segments of the society and for existing as well as potential savings account customers. The eligible products/accounts for the promo include FCMB basic savings, kids account, Nairawise, e-savings, premium savings and third party accounts.

    Speaking on the promo and how to participate draws, the Senior Vice President/Divisional Head of Retail of FCMB, Mr. Olu Akanmu, said all an existing or new customer of the Bank needs to do is to save N10,000 in any of the eligible savings account of his or her choice for 30 days to qualify for the electronic selection of winners where the star prize of N1 million and other fantastic prizes will be won.  Multiple savings of N10,000 will increase chances of winning.

    To qualify for the grand finale draws in August, where three customers will each receive N5million, existing and new customers are to save N50,000 in any of the eligible accounts for 30 days. Multiple savings of N50,000 increases winning chances.

    According to Mr. Akanmu, “We are excited to once again reward our customers for their patronage and loyalty’’. He added that, ‘’our customers are the reason why FCMB exists and as a bank that is committed to continually satisfy their needs, the millionaire promo is to further show appreciation to existing and potential customers by expanding the reward opportunities that the promo offers them.   • FCMB disburses N122m to MSMEs

    First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Limited has disbursed  additional N122 million to Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs). The amount is expected to grow in the coming months.

    In a statement, the bank listed some of the latest beneficiaries which include, Health Products and Farms Limited, Midows Limited in Lagos, Everlasting Hands Limited, in Kaduna State and God’s Will Technical Services Limited in Ogun State.

    The bank pledged support for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) N220 billion MSMEs’ Development Fund meant to provide loans at lower interest rate of nine per cent and over a maximum period of five years to MSMEs’ operators.

    FCMB said its support is in line with its objective to contribute to the success of such businesses considering the key role they play in driving national economic growth and the well-being of the people, especially in the areas of employment and poverty eradication.

    According to the bank’s Group Head, Business Banking, George Ogbonnaya, the lender realises that SMEs play critical roles in the growth of the economy.

    As agents of growth, it is committed to helping these businesses thrive and contribute to the country.

    He added: ‘’We understand that a number of factors combine to determine the success or failure of SMEs. We will continue to support our customers operating in the SMEs segment to overcome the challenges they usually face, especially at the take-off stage. We want to be part of their success story.’’

    Ogbonnaya pointed out that with statistics showing that over 17million SMEs are registered in Nigeria and contribute to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), FCMB realises the strategic importance of this sector.

    In the first television commercial, titled: ‘’Waiting’’, the audience is taken through the thoughts and aspirations of diverse Nigerians in a typical office day. From the office cleaner to the manager and Chief Executive, the story line captures the fact that everyone has something that they are aspiring to achieve. In essence, this commercial imaginatively portrays the more diverse retail and business customer segments FCMB now serves.

    The second commercial titled: ‘’Maybe Today’’, shows a young professional man working in his office reminiscing about his father, who had come from a humble background, but through hard work and commitment, he prepared a solid foundation for his son to build upon. Through the eyes of the young professional, the audience is taken back in time to see his father affectionately watching over him and also preparing for a day of hard work to provide for his family. As the audience is brought back to the present day, it becomes clear that the young professional reminiscing about his father has not only followed in his father’s footsteps, but has become a successful business owner with the support of FCMB.

    Arrested Ikoyi armed robbers narrate operations

    FOUR of the 11-man gang that killed three policemen and two civilians in the March 12 Lekki, Lagos bank robbery have been arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

    Duke Odogbo, 38; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; Ebi Tosan, 20, and Ekelemo Kuete, 30, were paraded in Ikeja yesterday by Police Commissioner Kayode Aderanti with the exhibits recovered from them. Among the exhibits are a Honda Accord 2008 Model (Evil Spirit), one white blackberry Z10 phone, one white Apple I5, one military cap and 130 expended ammunitions.

    The casualties were Inspector Bethel Agbola, Sergeant Odehohwo George, Corporal Imosisiu Ikechukwu, Mr Sowemimo Kabiru and Sarah Ibikunle, 15, fish seller around the area.

    Odogbo who hails from Warri North in Delta State, said: “We are 11 in number. We came with two boats but one had problem, so we used only one. We came with seven rifles. The extra three rifles that brought our total rifles to 10 belonged to the three policemen killed by my gang. They were not posted to the bank. My members saw them on road patrol. They interfered and they shot them dead and took their three rifles.

    “I was the first to fire a warning shot when we entered the bank, a branch of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) located on Admiralty Way. We collected N15million from the bank’s vault. We sprayed out the money from ATM machine.

    They gave me N500,000 as my own share. I was arrested in my house in Warri.”

    Aderanti said after the movie-like action, he convened a meeting of all commanders of combat units including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operatives, Department of Investigation, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), SARS, Special Investigation Bureau (SIB), Marine and Police Mobile Force (PMF), mandating them that the perpetrators must be fished out.

    Aderanti said based on intelligence, six Decoy SARS teams were dispatched to Delta, Ogun, Ondo states and Ikorodu, Lagos under his supervision.

    These efforts, he said, paid off on March 20 when Odogbo, the gang’s leader was picked up in Warri, Delta State. Kuete, who drove one of the speed boats, was picked up in Majidun, Ikorodu; Kingsley and Tosan were later arrested.

    The suspects, he said, had confessed, adding that efforts were being intensified to arrest their fleeing accomplices.

    FCMB shareholders approve N25 kobo dividend

    Shareholders of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Group Plc have unanimously approved the payment of a cash dividend of 25 kobo per ordinary share, for the year ended December 31, 2014.

    The approval came at the second Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the group in Lagos at the weekend. The Group, the Coordinator of Independent Shareholders Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Sir Sunny Nwosu, commended the Board and Management of the lender for the performance and dividend payment, despite the particularly challenging operating environment for banks in 2014.

    He said the increase in the Group’s profit from N16 billion in 2013 to N22 billion in 2014 is commendable. “It is a clear signal that things are looking up. We are also happy that FCMB has emerged as a strong player in retail banking and from what we have seen so far, we are optimistic that the Bank will continue to wax stronger,’’ he said.

    National Chairman of Shareholders’ Trustees Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Mukhtar Mukhtar, said, ‘’the result is very wonderful, despite the very harsh economic environment. The FCMB has been able to give us a wonderful result. We are very satisfied. The 22 kobo dividend is very encouraging. Profit after tax has gone up, total assets has increased. We are very impressed with the result. I congratulate the current executive management of the Bank for a job well done’’.

    FCMB gets new corporate identity

    First City Monument Bank(FCMB) has unveiled a new corporate identity to reflect an expansionist disposition cum contemporary flavour.

    With the new look, its traditional corporate colours of black and gold which denotes exclusivity have been replaced with a vibrant combination of purple and yellow in an attempt to reflects its new positioning as a retail bank.

    The Logo also went through some tinkering to make it less formal and more contemporary, yet retaining the distinct FCMB touch.

    Speaking at the formal unveil of the new corporate identity,  the GMD/Chief Executive, FCMB, Ladi Balogun, who noted the refreshed identity  signposts  the present position and future of the bank added that it is a reflection of the bank’s move from  exclusivity to retail banking.

    “We have reached the height of our evolution, and we feel we are now ready to wear a new look that is reflective of not only where we are, but also where we are going. Our long term goal to be the premier financial services group of African origin remains. At the heart of the group is emerging a vibrant retail bank that seeks to rewrite the rules of the game.”

    Balogun added that the once-exclusive bank now provides banking services to a vast majority of individuals.”Today, our products provide practical solutions to the borrowing, saving, investment, and payment needs of our customers.
