A Bill for the establishment of establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Sisinbaki Wamba, Nasarawa State, on Wednesday, scaled second reading in the House of Representatives.
Titled, “A Bill for an Act to Amend the Federal Medical Centre Act, to Provide for Establishment of Federal Medical
Centre, Sisinbaki Wamba, Nasarawa State and for Related Matters, (HB. 709), it is sponsored by Hon. Jeremiah Umaru.
Leading the argument on the general principles of the Bill, Hon Umaru said the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Sisinbaki, Wamba, Nasarawa State, is essential for addressing the healthcare needs of local population, improving healthcare access and enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services in the region and beyond.
Umaru, who represents Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency, said it holds significant importance for several reasons, considering the distance between Wamba to Keffi and Lafia for medical attention in emergency situations.
The lawmaker said it would provide improved healthcare access, quality Health services, specialized medical care and economic development.

Umaru said, “The Federal Medical Centre provides access to specialised medical services and facilities that may not be readily available in other healthcare facilities in the area. This helps in improving healthcare access for the residents of Sisinbaki, Wamba, Farin Ruwa, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon, some parts of Plateau State and Sanga Local government area of Kaduna State.
“The Federal Medical Centre when equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed with qualified healthcare professionals, will ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to the local communities and reduce the rate of medical tourism abroad.
“The FMC offers specialised medical care, advanced treatment options, and diagnostic services that cater to a wide range of healthcare needs, including surgeries, maternity care, emergency services, and more. Healthcare infrastructure Development: The establishment of the FMC will contribute to the development of healthcare infrastructure in the region, which is essential for addressing the healthcare needs of the growing population. Capacity Building: Tne FMC provides opportunities for capacity building and training for healthcare professionals, which helps in enhancing the skills and expertise of the local workforce.
“The presence of a Federal Medical Centre can contribute to economic development in the region by creating jobs opportunities, attracting healthcare professionals and stmulating growth in related industries. Public Health Impact; The FMC plays a crucial role in promot’ng public health, disease prevention and health education initiatives in the community, lead’ng to improved health outcomes and well-being.”
