    Dantata donates N100m to FUD female hostel project

    The Federal University Dutse ( FUD ), has received a donation of N100 million  for the construction of female hostel in its campus.

    The donation was made by a Kano-based business mogul, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, in Dutse.

    FUD’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Fatima Batul-Muktar, announced the donation while reviewing the achievements of the university in the last one year.

    She said, “I am pleased to inform you of the receipt of a donation of N100 million from Alhaji Aminu Dantata, for the construction of a female hostel.

    “The construction project has reached advanced level right now,” the VC said.

    Batul-Muktar added that the varsity’s Department of Public Private Partnership (DPPP), was also able to attract philanthropists to execute meaningful projects in the university.

    “Our DPPP under my watch, has been able to attract philanthropists like AA Rano, who furnished laboratories in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Department of Forestry and Wildlife.

    “The DPPP also attracted Alhaji Abdullahi Dangogola, a Kano-based businessman who completed the construction of a Central Mosque which was initially by Engineer Abubakar Isa,’’ she said.

    According to her, the Nigerian communications Commission ( NCC ), has also constructed a Computer-Based Training Centre (CBTC) for the university.

    The VC added that the Nigerian Metrological Agency  ( NIMET ), had selected the FUD among the universities to benefit from its upgrading of Weather Station to World Metrological Agency ( WMO ), standard.

    She also pointed out that the project had commenced.

    “NITDA has also approved the deployment of its intervention project (Digital Job Creation Centre) to the university.

    “National Energy Commission is also intervening in the area of solar-powered street lights for the university,’’ the VC added.

    TETFund boss inaugurates 14 projects worth N1.4bn at Dutse varsity

    The Tertiary Education Trust Fund ( TETFund ) on Monday inaugurated 14 projects worth over N1.4 billion at the Federal University Dutse ( FUD ), Jigawa.

    The projects inaugurated are: Faculty of Agriculture phase I, II and III, Faculty of General Studies, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Centre for E-Learning, Academic Staff Office Block for Faculty of Arts, Biotechnology Laboratory.

    Others are: Computer Science Department, Classrooms and Offices Block, Faculty of of Management Science Phase I, University Clinic and Postgraduate Hostel Phase I.

    TETFUND Executive Secretary, Dr Abdullahi Baffa, who inaugurated the projects, commended the university for executing the projects prudently.

    “I want to congratulate the Vice-Chancellor for achieving this feat.

    “Since the establishment of the TETFUND, this is the first time we are inaugurating the highest number of projects in a single day.

    “We commend you for supervising these projects to completion, while many universities are battling corruption charges against contractors the FUD had the mindset to organise themselves to achieve such feat.

    “I salute your mindset to deliver these projects, in fact, you delivered them qualitatively.

    “And for you to prudently execute these 14 gigantic projects, I am happy to inform you that over N3 billion was allocated to this university in 2017,” Baffa said.

    He also urged the university to start the process of accessing the N100 million fund approved to it as zonal intervention for its services and students’ shuttle buses.

    Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Fatima Batul-Mukhtar said that N1.4 billion was expended by the University on the construction of all the projects inaugurated from the 2013 and 2014 special and normal interventions funds.

    She added that the college of medicine and health sciences complex and the university sports complex also sponsored by TETFund would be inaugurated in February to serve as part of its third pre-convocation programmes.

    “I will like to extend our profound gratitude to TETFUND and the Federal Government for these lofty interventions.

    “I also want to appreciate the efforts of the the various contractors that successfully executed these projects,” she added.

    Varsity spends N7m to renovate facilities for NUGA games – Official

    The Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa, said it had spent about N7 million to renovate sports facilities to be used in the upcoming 2017 Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) preliminaries.

    The university’s Sports Director, Iliyasu Hussain, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Monday.

    “About N7 million was spent to renovate facilities to be used during the exercise.

    “The renovation is part of our preparations to successfully host the 2017 Zone ‘A’ NUGA preliminaries.

    “So, all facilities to be used for the games have been put in to ensure, hitch-free, smooth and successful conduct of the competition,” the sports director assured.

    Hussain lauded the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Fatima Muktar, for her support and cooperation in the ongoing preparations for the games.

    NAN reports that 19 universities from the zone will compete for tickets to the NUGA Games at the preliminaries, billed to take place from April 2 to April 8.

    A team of experts from Zone A of the NUGA Council had on March 14, inspected facilities at the university and other venues in preparation for the preliminaries.

    The council also appointed 13 coordinators for the games to feature in the preliminaries which include: football, basketball, volleyball, handball, hockey, badminton, tennis and table tennis.

    Others are; swimming, athletics, chess, Taekwando, cricket, scrabble, squash and judo.
