  • FEDPOFFA plans vehicle diagnostic centre

    The Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) has concluded plans to establish a Mechanical and Electrical Diagnostic Centre.
    Director, Entrepreneurship Development Centre of the Polytechnic, Mr. Kamaldeen Arowomole, said the workshop, apart from serving as a source of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), would solve the problem of members of the Offa community and environs having to travel far to repair their vehicles.
    He said the centre would follow the newly-established Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), which is a platform for students to enhance their entrepreneurship training.
    The EDC was built with funds provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for 2011/2012 session.
    It consists of offices for the Director and other workers, 40 workstations, conference room, business centre, and an incubator room to conceive and develop new ideas.
    Arowomole urged the students to make the best use of the facility to prepare themselves for the future.
    “With the government’s focus on entrepreneurship development in our tertiary institutions, one hopes that the next generation of Nigerian youths would not depend on what government can do for them to make a living but what they can do to help themselves and contribute to the nation’s economic growth,” he said.
    The director also thanked the polytechnic management for equipping the centre with modern facilities.
    “I say a big thank you to the Polytechnic Management under the leadership of Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo, for the support and encouragement to make this permanent office complex a reality.
    “Among plans in the pipeline is the plan to propose to the Management on the expansion of our Concrete and Block-making Unit to meet the contractors’ demand and others willing to patronise us,” he said.

  • FEDPOFFA ASUP gets new leaders

    The Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), has appointed new executives to run the affairs of the union.

    They are Dr Sola Ojeniyi (Chairman), Dr Abdulwaheed Balogun (Vice-Chairman), Mr Bankole (General Secretary), Mr Bisola Olowookere (Assistant General Secretary), Mrs Bolanle Ajibade (Financial Secretary), Mr Samuel Ogundele (Treasurer), Mr Mufutau Olaoye (Public Relations Officer), Mr Peter Ajayi (Social Welfare Officer) and Mrs Grace Korter (Internal Auditor).

    At the inauguration of the new executives, which took place inside the 1000-seater lecture hall of the institution, the Rector, Dr Mufutau Olatinwo, represented by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr Ayodele Kuburat Olaosebikan, congratulated the new executives on a successful power transition.

    He also appreciated the immediate past executives for their support and understanding. He advised the new team to be proactive in any situation and allow God to lead them in the course of duty.

    Olatinwo urged them to lift the institution to the highest level by giving the management good suggestions on how the institution can be moved higher.

    The Deputy Rector, Academics, Alhaji Biaminu Saliu advised the new leaders to ensure that they work as a team. He maintained that in unity, there is harmony and understanding, he implored them to listen to people and be sensitive to people and situation on campus.

    The Chairman, ASUP Electoral Committee, Elder Omotosho Badmus, enjoined the contestants to close ranks and work together for the progress of the union and not to give room for division them.

    In his inaugural speech as Chairman, Ojeniyi appreciated God for the victory. He thanked all the ASUP members for their understanding, cooperation and support during the election period. He appealed to the supporters of all the contestants to put politics behind them and join hands with him to lift the union.

    His predecessor, Mr Kamoru Kadiri wished them a successful tenure.

     

  • CIIN donates books to FEDPOFFA

    The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has donated insurance textbooks worth N600,000 to the Federal Polytechnic, Offa (FEDPOFFA).

    The ceremony held during a seminar by the institute at the Kwara Hotels, Ilorin.

    CIIN President, Mr Fatai Kayode Lawal, underscored the need to promote insurance in the country.

    The Dean, School of Business Management Studies, Pastor Peter Akinjobi and the Head, Department of Insurance Mr Raji both of Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) received the books on behalf of the polytechnic.

    Other beneficiaries were: Kwara State University (KWASU), Ilorin, Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Osun State and The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo State.

    Earlier, the institute also donated books to institutions such as Redeemer’s University Lagos, Lagos State University (LASU) and Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH). The institute, however, promised to make more donations to some tertiary institutions.

    Lawal spoke of plans to produce an insurance textbook for the secondary schools, which he said, would be presented during the institute’s graduation.

    Registrars urged to solve problems

    REGISTRARS of polytechnics and colleges of technology have been charged to reflect on the state of tertiary education in Nigeria and proffer useful solutions to the lingering crisis rocking the sector.

    Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr. Mufutau Olatinwo, made this call at the 62nd Regular Meeting of the Conference of Registrars of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COREG), held at the 1,000-seater lecture theatre of the polytechnic.

    Olatinwo, in his keynote address, commended COREG for providing a platform for registrars to rub minds on issues in administration, record management and policy implementation as it has enhanced productivity among registry staff in the polytechnic.

    “I must commend the efforts of COREG at providing a platform for registrars of polytechnics and colleges of technology in the country, to rub minds and discuss issues in the administration and record management and policy implementation. Your efforts over the years, I must say, have improved productivity and brought about high efficiency in the polytechnic system. The Federal Polytechnic, Offa, is a vivid example.”

    Worried by the increasing cases of indiscipline among workers, admission and certificates racketeering, forgery and incessant strikes, Olatinwo tasked COREG to initiate measures against the vices.

    The Kwara State Governor Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary and Acting Commissioner, Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Mr J. A. B. Haruna, also urged the registrars to find lasting solutions to academic disruptions.

    In his welcome address, FEDPOFFA Registrar, Alhaji Abdulhamid Raji, thanked the management for being supportive. He said the registry and technical workers, like their academic counterparts, enjoy capacity building programmes within and outside the country.

    In his goodwill message, the Ojomu of Offa Chief Bayo Akinola who represented Olofa of Offa called on the Federal Government and leaderships of ASUU and ASUP to find common ground towards resolving the insudtrial strikes embarked upon by the unions.

     

  • Council hosted

    The Federal Polytechnic, Offa (FEDPOFFA) has received members of its newly inaugurated Governing Council at a colourful reception witnessed by members of the staff, union members and students.

    In his speech, the Chairman of the council, Chief Okey Ezenwa, expressed appreciation for the warm reception. He promised that the new Council would build on the successes of its predecessor.

    Expressing the hope that the Federal Government and the striking unions will find amicable solution to areas of disagreement, Ezenwa assured staff that all local issues would be tackled and sorted out amicably.

    Earlier, the Rector Dr Mufutau Olatinwo, said the Council the institution has remained a centre for technological innovations and scientific breakthroughs, adding that it is determined to continue to be relevant to national development through meaningful researches, useful fabrications and productions.
