  • Buhari receives WAEC certificate

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday received attestation certificate and confirmation of school certificate result from the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
    The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed this on his Twitter handle, @FemAdesina, on Friday.

  • Buhari greets Emir of Zuru at 75

    President Muhammadu Buhari has sent warm greetings to Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammadu Sani Sami, on his 75th birthday.

    In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said that it’s a milestone marked with remarkable years of meritorious service to his people and the nation.

    He joined the Zuru Emirate Council, the government and people of Kebbi State, his family and friends in celebrating the landmark age of the royal father, who has spent all his working life, since he was enlisted into the army in 1962, in leadership positions that involved protecting the interest of people and the country.

    The President recalled that Alhaji Sami, as a governor, instituted agricultural projects to diversify the economy of the states he served, and strongly promoted values of education, particularly inspiring youths to pursue knowledge, wisdom and entrepreneurship.

    He saluted the Emir’s wisdom in introducing an inter-religious committee in Zuru emirate on assumption of the throne in 1995, which created peaceful co-existence and harmony, as he deployed his versatile experience to set up a health foundation on HIV/AIDS and also ensuring peace in his domain.

    The President prayed that the almighty God will grant Alhaji Sami longer life and good health to continue serving humanity.

     

  • Buhari greets Alaafin of Oyo at 80

    President Muhammadu Buhari has sent warm greetings to His Royal Majesty, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi 111, Iku Baba Yeye, on his 80th birthday.

    Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, joined the Council of Obas and Chiefs in Oyo State, Traditional Council, family and friends of the Alaafin of Oyo, who is heir to the historic Oyo Empire, in celebrating the landmark age.

    As His Royal Majesty turns an octogenarian, the President believed his 48 years on the throne of his fathers have been most remarkable for the entire dynasty, illustrated by his contributions to the educational, social and cultural development of the people, both those at home and abroad.

    He extolled the Alaafin of Oyo’s courage in upholding the values of integrity, hard work and search for knowledge, which has been the hallmark of the great Oyo Empire, commending him for regular counsels to governments, institutions and families.

    The President prayed that the almighty God will grant the royal father longer life, good health and more wisdom to sustain the legacies of his fathers.

  • Buhari pays tribute to Late Justice Edozie

    President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to a former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Hon Justice Dennis Onyejife Edozie, describing him as an accomplished jurist who diligently applied the law in principle.

    As the late jurist is laid to rest in his country home in Oghe, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, President Buhari believed that he will be long remembered for his meritorious and dedicated service to the nation, earning him a seat at the apex court for nearly three years.

    The President, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, trusted that the respected jurist, teacher, community leader and statesman will be eternally honoured and celebrated for his exemplary and courageous works on the Bench in upholding the laws and Constitution of the country.

    President Buhari extended his heartfelt condolences to Justice Edozie’s family, members of the judiciary and legal profession, and the government and people of Enugu State.

    He prayed that God Almighty will grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and comfort all who mourn the jurist.

  • 2019: Gang up against Buhari will not stand – Presidency

    The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Thursday declared that gang up against President Muhammadu Buhari towards the 2019 presidential election will not stand. 
    Buhari, according to him, will win the 2019 presidential election as all gang ups against him will fall.
    Adesina made these remarks on his Twitter handle, @FemAdesina on Thursday, which coincided with the day the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

    Obasanjo tactically endorsed Atiku to win the 2019 presidential election. 
    But Adesina declared that the harder the gang up against President Buhari, the harder the fall.
    “The harder they come, the harder they fall. 2019 presidential election on my mind,” Adesina stated on his Twitter handle even though he was not specific on the issue he was reacting to.
  • I won’t ignore any part of Nigeria, says Buhari

    *Cross River community backs Buhari for 2019

     

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Abuja promised that no part of Nigeria will be ignored under his watch.

    He gave the assurance when he received a delegation of Ugep Kingdom, Cross River State, led by His Royal Highness, Obol Ofem Ubana, Obol Lopon of Ugep, a retired Army officer.

    The President, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, was responding to a request by the royal father for the Federal Government to intervene and resolve inter-ethnic conflicts, affecting several communities namely Nko, Nyima, Oyadama, Edibe, Usumtong, Adadama and Ekureku.

    Buhari told the delegation: ‘‘I assure you that under my watch, no part of Nigeria will be ignored.

    ”I am very pleased that you [the traditional ruler] have shared some professional background as a former military officer.

    ”My experience of being in the military afforded me the opportunity to work with all Nigerians and this is a lifetime experience.” he said

    Speaking earlier, the traditional ruler thanked the President for appointing Yakuur sons into exalted positions in government, including Chief of Naval Staff, Minister of Niger Delta and Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution.

    He pledged the support of his community to the president’s ”quest to rescue Nigeria.”

    On restiveness in the region, the Obol Lopon said: ‘‘We are increasingly losing our youths to inter-tribal wars which if nothing is done will leave our communities without youths in the near future.

    ”As Obolo Lopon of Ugep, I am ready to partner with relevant government agencies saddled with the responsibility and management of communal conflict resolutions.”

    Speaking with State House correspondents, His Royal Majesty, Obol Ofem said “We came here to thank Mr. President for finding our children worthy to work in his government. In this government we have three of our illustrious sons, the Chief of Naval Staff is from my local government, the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs is from my local government and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Prosecution is from my local government.

    “So we have come to thank Mr. President for finding them worthy to work with him. We are also asking him to help us tame the menace of communal crisis in our area, that is one of our major problems.

    “We have also asked him to upgrade the only government institution in our local government, the Institute of Management Technology to Federal University of Technology. We asked that those who were displaced as a result of this communal crisis are resettled. Like the Ebom Ebijiakara community, the have been living as refugees in the past eleven years, so the problem is telling on our community and we are appealing to the federal government to resettle them.

    “We have also asked that the federal government remembers one of our illustrious sons who was a Minister for External Affairs for nine years, Dr. Okoi Arikpo, SAN, he has never been remembered, so we are asking that he should be honoured with national honour. We are also asking that a street should be known after him in Abuja. He said he will look into it.

    “We have come to tell him that we are behind him and also congratulate him for emerging the candidate of the party. Our community is strongly behind him and will support him during the election.” he said

  • Buhari greets Bishop Olaleye at 60

    President Muhammadu Buhari has extended warm greetings to Bishop Abraham Olaleye of the Abraham’s Evangelistic Ministry on his 60th birthday.

    In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the President wished him more glorious years of service to God.

    Buhari also felicitated with members of Bishop Olaleye’s family, his friends and associates in the ministry, commending him for the discipline, focus and sacrifice he has made to ensure that more people get drawn to God and established in Christian faith.

    As the evangelist turns 60, the President believed he has brought courage and strength to many lives, while the wisdom and virtue of his sermons have helped in the establishment of many strong spiritual homes, educational institutions and churches.

    The President saluted the Bishop’s courage in speaking against the evils of corruption, graft and bribery which have haunted the country for many years, urging him to remain steadfast in the truth and continue inspiring younger preachers on the right path.

    He prayed for more grace, strength and wisdom on the life of the evangelist as he travels round the world with the gospel.

  • Fighting corruption in Nigeria non-negotiable, Buhari tells Mbeki

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday told the former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, that for his administration, fighting corruption is non-negotiable.

    Buhari said that fighting corruption is a must.

    Mbeki, who heads the African Union High Level Panel on Illicit Flows from Africa, was at the Villa to give the President, who is the current Champion of AU Anti-Corruption Campaign, critical updates.

    In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said “We must fight corruption frontally, because it’s one of the reasons we got elected.

    “We campaigned on three fundamental issues; security, reviving the economy, and fight against corruption. It’s the reason we got elected, and we can’t afford to let our people down.”

    Noting that the government was making progress on the anti-corruption war, “and not just talking,” the President said he was very pleased with the assignment the former South African President was carrying out for the African continent.

    He said that when Africa is vigorous with the war against corruption, “we will eventually appeal to the conscience of the rest of the world.”

    In his remarks, former President Mbeki said corruption was an African challenge that must be responded to, “as development challenges can only be met through the check of illicit financial flows.”

    He said he was delighted that President Buhari touches on the issue in most of his speeches, with the most recent being at the United Nations General Assembly last week.

    “We are pleased with the way you take up the matter. Countries need political will to stop the illicit flow. Nigeria has shown good example. The more we are showing that we are acting as Africans, the easier to get the rest of the world to cooperate,” Mbeki said.

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that the visit by the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi to the Presidential Villa, Abuja has boosted his morale.

    He also noted that God did not make any mistake by creating 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria.

    In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said “God did not make a mistake when he created over 250 different ethnic groups, and decided to put them in a place called Nigeria,’’

    President Buhari said that Nigerians must appreciate God for bringing everyone together.

    “We must appreciate God for bringing us together. He knows what he was doing. He didn’t make a mistake,’’ the President noted.

    Describing Nigeria as “a great country’’ endowed with human and natural resources, President said: “We have challenges in trying to get people to understand us.

    “With my experience as a governor, Minister of Petroleum, Head of State, Chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund, I thought I had seen it all, but Nigeria has a way of going at its own speed.

    “My morale is raised by your visit. I very much appreciate it.’’ he added

    President Buhari recalled what he described as Pastor Kumuyi’s “intellectual achievements’’ as a scholar and university lecturer before going into full time ministry, adding that he was “excited a great deal’’ for the General Superintendent’s acceptance of government’s invitation to preach the sermon at the country’s 58th independence anniversary.

    “Thank you very much,’’ the President said.

    In his remarks, Pastor Kumuyi, who leads one of the country’s largest Pentecostal churches, said it was an honour to be received by the President on a busy day as October 1.

    He told the President that he appreciates the government.

    “Please remain focused and courageous and do what is right. Not everyone will support you publicly, but we are praying for you so that your tenure will be one of progress and prosperity for the country.’’

    The General Superintendent was accompanied by his wife, Esther, Pastor Samuel Afuwape, Pastor Chike Onwuasoanya and Pastor Seyin Malomo, the Chaplain of Aso Chapel.
