Actors who refuse to embody roles ‘unprofessional’ – Femi Branch

Actor Femi Branch has criticised actors who fail to fully immerse themselves in their roles, calling them “frauds” and “unprofessional”.

In a recent HipTV interview, he expressed frustration with performers who make minimal effort to transform physically or emotionally for their characters, accusing them of deceiving audiences and disrespecting the art of acting.

“You have someone that calls himself an actor and he has just one look in every film. I’m sorry dude, you’re not professional. You’re a fraud. You’re ripping off your audience. The audience has to keep convincing themselves that it’s not you—they’re doing your job for you. You’re giving them stress!” he said.

He argued that actors who force audiences to mentally separate their real-life persona from the character are burdening viewers with the work of performance.

Branch praised Hollywood stars like Michael Fassbender, Joaquin Phoenix, and 50 Cent for their commitment, noting their willingness to undergo drastic physical changes for roles.

He stated that such uncommitted actors are rarely cast in serious projects, as producers and directors can distinguish true talent from pretenders.

“If you have to go bald, you go bald. If you have to carry warts on your face, you carry warts! Your body doesn’t belong to you—it belongs to the craft. That’s why you’ll never see such actors in serious projects. Producers and directors know how to sift the wheat from the chaff.Who cares about your good looks? People are paying for the characters they can relate with,” he added.

Why Desmond Elliot’s efforts I constituency go unnoticed – Femi Branch

Actor Femi Branch has praised colleague Desmond Elliot for his dedication to politics.

In a recent interview on Nollywood on Radio, Branch acknowledged Elliot’s consistent efforts in his constituency, noting that his good work often goes unrecognised.

According to Branch, Elliot’s lack of recognition can be attributed to poor publicity and his position on the political ladder.

Despite the challenges, Branch affirmed that Elliot is doing exceptionally well in his role as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Surulere Constituency since 2015.

Branch said: “I want to praise Desmond Elliot because he has been the actor who has been consistent with politics.

“I think the problem Desmond has had over the time is probably poor PR because I know a lot of things that he is doing in the constituency.

“There is also the possibility that his case is the case of being under a boss on the political ladder. So when you do something, they don’t give you credit for it. Rather, they give it to the boss. I would tell you that Desmond is doing very well.”

Femi Branch calls out cinemas for promoting one movie over others

Actor Femi Branch has expressed frustration over the reported growing trend of cinemas promoting one movie above others.

Branch’s concerns were sparked during a meet-and-greet event for Toyin Abraham’s latest film, “Alakada Bad and Bougie,” at a cinema.

The actor, in a video, revealed that cinema staff often wear promotional T-shirts for one film, remove media cards for other films from their counters, and replace them with those of the promoted film.

Branch further alleged that some cinema staff lobby patrons into watching certain movies, assuring them that it’s better than their intended choice.

Branch emphasised that cinemas should not dictate what people watch, and he warned those engaging in this practice to stop.

He argued that this behaviour creates division within the industry and appealed for an even playing field for producers.

Branch called for fairness and transparency in cinema promotions.

Recall that actress and producer Toyin Abraham recently hinted at the challenges faced by film owners in cinemas.

Abraham noted that some fans expect gifts in exchange for watching her movie, creating an uneven playing field for producers who cannot afford to offer such incentives.

Also, she and Mercy Aigbe accused some cinemas of sabotaging their films.

Femi branch condemns arrest of Naomi, Oriyomi over Christmas funfair tragedy

Actor Femi Branch has expressed outrage over the arrest and remand of Queen Naomi Silekunola, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and Islamic High School principal Abdullahi Fasasi, following a tragic Christmas funfair incident that claimed the lives of 35 children.

On his social media platforms, Branch shared his thoughts, sympathising with the victims’ families but describing the charges against the event organisers as “nonsense.”

He questioned the basis for their arrest, noting that the funfair was scheduled to commence at 10 a.m., with security personnel expected at the venue by 8 a.m.

However, reports indicated that parents had begun throwing their children over the fence into the compound the night before.

The actor criticised the actions of these parents, accusing them of endangering their children’s lives and urging the police to hold them accountable rather than punishing the organisers.

Branch defended Queen Naomi and Oriyomi Hamzat, stating that they intended to bless the community through the event.

He argued that their arrest set a “terrible precedent” and called on the public to stand against what he described as an injustice.

He demanded the immediate release of the organisers and prosecution of the parents who contributed to the chaos by throwing their children over the fence.

“I want to believe they have very good lawyers because this case is nonsense. This is not me being insensitive to the plight of the children who died; it is very tragic. But if the purpose is to punish those responsible for the death, how is it the organisers? Let’s look at the facts on the ground. The event was supposed to start by 10 am; the security personnel were supposed to arrive by 8.

“The venue was locked and wasn’t meant to be opened until the security personnel arrived by 8 for an event that was supposed to start by 10. From the reports we have, people came overnight; they started arriving overnight and began throwing their children over the fence and into the compound. I saw a very tragic incident where, as the mother threw her child over the fence, the child hit their head and died instantly. So how is this the fault of the organisers?

“Is it a problem to do good in this country right now because we are dealing with so much, and a few people try once in a while with the little God has blessed them with to help people’s lives? This situation can happen to anybody. We understand the root cause of this matter is that there’s hunger in the land, but is it hunger that will make you endanger the life of your child? Throwing your child over a fence? How bad is that hunger? I think we’re sick; we’re not well as a people.

“And now the poor organisers who are trying to be a blessing are arrested and charged to court. What is going on? Don’t tell me you’re just trying to make an example of them. To what end exactly? We need to be careful because we’re setting a very terrible precedent. I think people need to speak up about this. Why have the police not fished out those parents who threw their children over the fence and also charged them? Because, as far as I’m concerned, those are the real offenders.

“These people should be set free; they should be released and let those parents who threw their children over the fence be arrested and prosecuted; those are the real offenders.”

“I’m not trying to justify what anybody does, am saying that what Femi Adebayo did if I was there, I could have made that same mistake and I wouldn’t know that at that point in time that it was a mistake.”
