Mikel not ready to quit Chelsea

After having more playing time under Coach Guus Hiddink, Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel believes his future still lies with Chelsea.

Despite the obvious departure of Hiddink with Italian Antonio Conte taking charge, Mikel who had spent 10 years at Stanford Bridge still believes he can play his way into the new coach team.

With just one year left in the current contract of the mid-fielder, the Super Eagles star is hoping that he can be part of the plans of the incoming new head-coach Antonio Conte.

Mikel`s love of life at Stamford Bridge could explain why, back in January, the 29-year-old turned down moves to Turkish football with the Sun reporting that both Galatasaray and Fenerbache were keen to do a deal for the player and that a reputed salary of £110,000 a week was on the table.

With the change at the managerial helm imminent, there are mixed reactions trailing the possible stay for John Obi Mikel under Antonio Conte.

Nigeria international, Moses Simon has told africanFootball.com he turned down several European clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Fenerbache and Liverpool in the English Premier League to stay put at Belgian champions Gent.

The player makes history with Belgian champions Gent

“Fenerbache, Dortmund and Liverpool were among the clubs who were interested in signing me, but I wish to stay at least another season at Gent before I decide what is next for me,” he told africanFootball.com.

“I still have three more years left of my contract with Gent, but the league in Germany or England would interest me at some point.”

Simon’s immediate target will be next season’s UEFA Champions League.

“We are all looking forward to featuring in the Champions League after against all odds we won our first Belgian championship in 115 years,” he added.

“It’s a big stage for all of us and we wish to make the most of it.”

The left winger scored seven goals after he joined up with Gent in January. It was a performance that saw him finished as the second best African player in the Belgian top-flight league this past season.

Emenike ends goals drought in Turkey

Emmanuel Emenike on Sunday ended his goals’ drought at Fenerbache when he grabbed the match winner at Erciyesspor .

The Super Eagles striker headed in the winner with an assist from former Liverpool star Dirk Kuyt with few seconds to end the game.

“I am very happy with the goal. I also say thank you to the fans for the support. It is a very special week for me, getting goals for my national team and now for my club,” MTNFootball.com quoted Emenike as saying after the match.

Emenike, a 77th minute substitute for Emre Belozoglu, has played seven games without a goal.

He has come under the hammer in Turkey for not getting on the scoreboard since his big-money move from Russian club Spartak Moscow in the summer and finally came good when he struck in the 90th minute to earn his team 2-1 away win.

Fenerbahce leads the table with 19 points from eight games.

Yobo fined $10,000 for lateness to training

Super Eagles’ skipper, Joseph Yobo, has been slapped a $10,000 fine by Turkish club Fenerbache after he reported late to training.

Yobo, who trained with the rest of the team for the first time on Thursday after being sidelined with knee injury for over three weeks, was reported to have showed up at the team’s training ground late and that did not go down well with the management and so the hefty fine, according to fanatik.com

Otherwise, Yobo, who is wearing a new bearded look, was superb at training, a performance that was applauded even by his team mates.

In the meantime, compatriot and Fenerbache teammate Emmanuel Emenike has been honoured by the Turkey Golf Club.

MTNFootball.com reports that Emenike with that development has entered the history book in Turkey as one of the first set of Fenerbahce players to be hosted by the prestigious Golf Club.
