    The atmosphere was convival. Shoppers related with the buyology.com staff. There was a talk session and a question and answer segment where shoppers expressed themselves in dance, music and comedy.

    The event was the BuyOfiesta 2013 held at Freedom Park on Lagos Island. It was an afternoon of music, dance and cocktails, organised by BuyOlogy.com, an online store.

    It was aimed at giving back to loyal customers and welcoming new ones. Thirteen people went home with N5000 vouchers each to shop on buyology.com.ng free.

    The Buyofaceoff finale (Buyology’s online modelling contest) held during the event produced Boma Amieyeofori as the winner and brand ambassador. She carted away the grand prize of $1000 and a modelling contract with Sulcata’s Royal Court models. The first runner-up got $500, while the second runner-up left with a techno tablet.

    The fiesta also featured performance from a many acts, including Olamide, Ajebutter, beatbuxx entertainment artistes, award winning singer Byno, Zephyr, Ace rappers Mvp and T’Sleek. Cintron energy drinks supported the online store, as well as The Beat 99.9fm.

    The event, which was hosted by multiple awards winning MC Larry Foreman, featured an explosive dance crew battle. The winner of the dance battle Charachoros went home with a cash prize of N50, 000.

    Also, some lucky shoppers won Buyology gift vouchers and guests were treated to unique and delicious cintron alcoholic and non- alcoholic cocktails mixed by Master Mixologist. While Dj Planter kept the audiences energy levels up.

  • Senator fetes kids, preaches love

    The senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Gbenga Ashafa, yesterday treated children to a fiesta in his Ibeju-Lekki constituency and urged residents to live in love and harmony.

    The event, according to him, was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of the kids and to give them something to look forward to. He said the event, being the first of its kind, would be a yearly one.

    Some of the beneficiaries were accompanied by their parents, who comprised market women, political leaders and traditional rulers.

    The children sang, danced and had fun-filled educative games which made it possible for them to go home with various gift materials.

    Ashafa urged the parents to keep their children’s hope alive; he also admonished the kids to be better citizens of the country and its future leaders.

    “I urge our children to respect their parents and guardians so that they will reap the rewards at the appropriate time. When you honour your parents, you are laying a good foundation for your greatness in future,” he noted.

    In his Yuletide message, the senator said: “This is a multi-religious state and we should tolerate one another and understand our shortcomings so that 2014 will be a better year for us all. Let us love one another and extend hands of understanding and tolerance across political parties, religious backgrounds and social strata.”

  • Ajimobi’s wife fetes 500 women

    In continuation of the ‘Ajumose Food Bank’ programme of Oyo State government, wife of the governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, has distributed raw food items to 500 market women at Mapo in Ibadan South East Local Government Area of the state.

    Mrs Ajimobi said the programme is being supported on a monthly basis by the governor and it is aimed at driving hunger away from every family, while also reaffirming the commitment of the government in ensuring that women are well catered for.

    She explained that the effort is in fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Abiola Ajimobi during his electioneering campaign that women throughout the state will enjoy welfare packages and not be allowed to beg for food.She added that the initiative is to ensure that every home that benefits can feed for at least two weeks.

    She pledged the commitment of the state government as complemented by her office, toward ensuring that the Restoration, Transformation and Repositioning agenda of the present administration is fully accomplished.

    Mrs Ajimobi further called for prayers and support of the people for the administration to able it achieve its set goals.

    Earlier in his welcome address,the Caretaker Chairman, Ibadan South East Local Government, Mr. Abass Najimudeen, praised the unique vision of Mrs. Ajimobi who has been consistent in her social welfare, healthcare initiatives and empowerment of women throughout the state.

    He called on women and the entire residents of the council to continue to support Governor Ajimobi’s effort to take Oyo State to greater heights,saying he has made a landmark achievement within a short period of his tenure.

    Little wonder that the Tarnscorp Hilton venue of the reception put together by Captain Shehu Iyal, Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Aviation and some friends in honour of Kabiru Tanimu, Minister for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs attracted a huge crowd.

    Prominent Nigerians and foreigners from all walks of life graced the colourful dinner at which Nigerians were assured that the choice of Kabiru Tanimu (SAN) as Minister  of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs was not a mistake.

    Those in attendance included Titus Ashaolu (SAN); Dr. Hain Ayalon; Giovanni de Bertie of Emeraldo; Nasrat Mansour; MD, Mannimpex Holdings; Dr Olu Owolabi of SACHOL; Hon. Baba Akawu, former Deputy Leader House of Representatives; Mr. Abu Gumel; Senator Ibrahim Musa; Hon. Bello Kawoje; Hon. Buhari Bala; Aliyu Kalgo of AMCON; Justice Sadiq Umar; Justice Danlami Sanchi; business moguls Aliyu Usman and  Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim.

    Others were Alhaji Abubakar Musa, a banker; Attorney Jude Menes from Texas, USA; Abbas Umar of NIS; Zanna Maideribe, Chairmanm Cavendish Petroleum;  Prof. Lawak Khalid, CMD, ABUTH; Dr Abdulah Usman, Public Health Consultant; Captain Farouk Umar, as well as the Personal Assistant to the Minister, Lawal Umar and Jamil Jega of FCT Judiciary, among several others.

    Though the night was not for speech-making, two dignitaries nonetheless insisted on saying a word or two about the Dan Masani Gwandu who was identified as the youngest northerner to have attained the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) status. He got his SAN in 2002.

    Hon Buhari Bala, in his comments said though Tanimu was younger in age, he remained a colossus in politics among his peers and those before him as a result of his doggedness.

    “Though he is younger in age, but in politics he is up there. His Machiavellian politics and his leadership style of taking the back-seat when it comes to decision making for his subordinates set him apart  because that is a very rare trait among our politicians,” he said.

    International Olympic Committee (IOC) top shot, Mr Abu Gumel, an engineer, expressed his optimism that Nigeria stands to benefit immensely from the wealth of experience the young minister is bringing to government.

    He cited the tireless work done by the minister during his time as a member of Team Nigeria saddled with the responsibility of raising funds for Nigerian teams to execute the country’s participation in the Olympics.

    Gumel said: “He is a tireless team player that is always primed for results. I am very confident that the ministry and the nation by extension would benefit immensely from the experience he is bringing into the Ministry. I am also convinced that the President has not made a mistake by choosing him as a minister”.

    The organiser of the event, Captain Iyal said he was not surprised by the accolades showered on the minister, expressing confidence that the country would see more of such commendations coming the way of the minister in future.

    “He is not only young, he is energetic, forthright, committed and intelligent, which I’m sure must have been traits identified in him by the President before making him one of his lieutenants.

    “The large turnout tonight only goes to show that this is the kind of Nigerians we need to encourage in order to see that Nigeria and indeed Nigerians continue to grow. He has excelled in previous responsibilities given to him, and I have no doubt that he will excel in this new challenge to the betterment of the country,” he said.

    The minister, in his appreciation, promised not to let down those who believed in his ability to make a positive difference in the responsibilities given to him by the President.

    According to Tanimu, having been exposed to the challenges of governance due to his membership of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), he is now more resolved to contribute his own part to move the nation forward.

    While pleading for understanding of Nigerians, the Minister assured that the relative improvement being witnessed in the nation’s transport system, especially rail network, power supply and health care delivery system would be sustained and improved upon.

    He said that he was happy to be part of President Jonathan’s team, adding that great things are ahead for the country and its people.

    A Children’ Disability Centre (CDC), a non-profit organisation dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities, has by building their potential into skills and increasing community awareness. Also, the acceptance of individual with disabilities within the workplace.

    The children tea breaker is a group set up to to celebrate the valentine. Where the children used the opportunity to sell baked item they made and at the same time inform the public about individuals with disabilities and their vast potentials. Most of them were children with Down syndrome

    Also fashion sales took place within the mall, on the first floor precisely. Sales were anchored mainly by D-block, beginning from the Ene-Maya shop to Braga clothiers who stock all kinds of cloths.

    There were sales in clothes, accessories for females and male, human hair and hair accessories, Polocity also gave out discounts. This is to endure that the shoppers buy at cheaper and reasonable prices on valentine day.

    However, sales is on in one shop of another, because of upcoming valentine. So that people can have a lot for their love ones out their. The sales which had been made a tree days fair from on the 8th to on the 10th of February for those who want to present a gift for a friend on the usual day. And also proceeds the sales for another whole week for those that wont be chance of coming at the first sales. This sales excluded foodstuff, eateries, cookies. But includes wines. Wines like E and J …. and other things their.

    Most people found mall interesting because of its conducive, and comfortable environment that makes its attractive to other shops out their. They said things are cheap in terms of some foodstuffs such as grand nut oil, yams, turkey, chickens etc, and beverages, and many more. While some said though goods there are pocket friendly but some are expensive in terms of clothing, jewelries and electronic.

    Never the less, shopping mall is one of the criteria that shows how developed a country is. As it is in every other countries. According to some shoppers they said when you get to other country both the riches and the poor can come for shopping but in Nigeria here its only the rich ones that came to patronize. But another shopper said its pocket friendly depending on the king of things you want and there are always discount, especially about to festive period like valentine. Another shopper said not because of its sales or discount that he came for shopping but because of the qualities, and guarantee product which are usually sold there.

    So far so good, people rates mall has an advance place where somebody can get all what he or she want without stress and inconveniency. People said how its can be better than what it is now is that more people are needed in service so that people will be answer in time and more car packed for customers.

     

  • Manko fetes suspects

    Lagos State Police Chief Umar Manko did not play the cop on Teusday. Rather, he donned the toga of Father Christmas, dishing out food and drinks to suspects at the Scorpion House of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Cell, Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos.

    The ‘social interaction’ between him and the suspects was the first of its kind in the command’s history.

    Manko said the suspects deserved to celebrate the New Year like others.

    Policing the society, he said, was not limited to crime prevention and control, but uniting people, adding that being a suspect should not deprive one the enjoyment of his fundamental human rights.

    The gesture, Manko said, would be extended to other suspects in police custody across the state, adding that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders (ACs) had been given orders to that effect.

    He said some suspects would soon be charged to court, adding that efforts would be intensified to facilitate the investigation of the remaining suspects whose cases are pending.

    Some of the suspects, who spoke to reporters, thanked Manko for his gesture.

    No fewer than 125 suspected robbers; kidnappers; arms dealers and receivers of stolen goods, among others, were hosted by Manko.
