  • Police parade suspects for murder, cultism in Osun

    Osun State Police Command on Thursday paraded Dauda Amusat (a.k.a. Adasi) for murder and two others, Alade Afeez (a.k.a Esubiyi) and Adesoji Seyi (a.k.a. Osa) for cultism.

    The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, who paraded them at the state Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, the state capital, disclosed that the police investigation had revealed that the suspects have killed many people before they were arrested.

    According to the CP, Amusat was arrested on December 28, 2018, at about 4 pm at Ifon-Osun in Orolu Local Government Area of Osun State.

    The police boss said the 36-year-old Amusat was arrested for conspiracy and murder of a 42 years old Sanusi Isiaka, who was allegedly killed on May 14, 2017 around 9 pm near Slava Construction Company along Iwo-road, Osogbo.

    He explained that the head of the deceased was cut off by the suspects before they later used it for rituals.

    He said: “The deceased was deceitfully lured from Saki in Oyo state to Osogbo few days before his death by one of the principal suspects, Yekini Ayinde (aka Abija), now at large.”

    The CP said that the deceased was asked to deliver 500 bags of rice and was later lodged in a hotel with expectation of getting money for the sale of rice through Ayinde.

    “The deceased was taken out to the scene where he was assassinated and the money was stolen and shared by the suspects.

    He further disclosed that the suspect confessed his statement to the police that seven of them perpetrated the killing, adding that four of them used the dismembered head for ritual.

    Speaking with reporters, Amusat confessed to the crime, admitting that he put a rope on the neck of the deceased while his colleagues slew him with a knife.

    He said: “I am selling beer in Ifon-Osun where I know Abija. He promised to give us N200,000 if we can help him kill the man. He sent his people to bring the man to us at Okefia, Osogbo. When we finished the job, he gave Oyama N65,000, he gave me N70,000 so that I can use N5,000 to buy beer for people the following day. I took the head of the deceased as an opportunity to use it for money ritual.”

    Meanwhile, the two suspected cultists, Seyi (26 years) and Afeez (26 years) were paraded for being members of a secret cult.

    Afeez confessed that he shot one Bode and killed him, adding that “I also shot another person but he did not die. Those people I shot are members of Aye. He later died when we, “Eye and Aye fraternity were fighting.

    “I have a gunshot in my body. They have tried to kill me before I joined the group. But God saved me. I made a mistake because I was supposed to forgive but I did not forgive.”

    He confessed that he joined the secret cult group, Eye, in 2009 at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, where he studied Ordinary National Diploma in Accountancy.

  • Police arrest four robbery suspects that set victim ablaze in Osun

    The Police in Osun have arrested 4 members of a robbery gang that robbed and later killed one Lagos businessman, Victor Akinbile, 48, by setting him ablaze while locked in his car.

    The Osun Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, disclosed this to journalists on Monday while parading the suspects and other criminals at the State Police Command in Osogbo.

    According to Adeoye, some friends of the late Akinbile reported to the police on Nov. 27, at about 10:30 p.m., the case of suspicious transfer of N3 million from the account of the deceased.

    He said that they also informed the police that they were unable to reach Akinbile after he had travelled to Ikirun from Lagos on Nov. 26.

    The CP also said that Akinbile’s friends informed the police that Akinbile had informed them that he would be passing a night in Ikirun, his home town. Akinbile was also said to have informed his friends that he would return the next day, Adeoye said.

    The police commissioner said that Akinbile’s friends were worried about the money transferred from his account and their inability to reach him. Adeoye said the police anti-kidnapping and SARS team where deployed to investigate the matter.

    He said that between Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, the team had arrested four suspects as well as recovered the charred remains of Akinbuile’s car and his burnt body.

    “The police team discovered that the gang consisted of four men, and that one of them happened to be a security guard who alerted his members that Akinbile was in town.

    “The gang came to the victim’s abode, where he was passing the night, broke into the house and took the N25,000 he was having on him and equally forced him to transfer N3 million to the account of one of them.

    “The police tracing the account where the money was transferred to, arrested one of the gang members identified as Hamed Rafiu.

    “Rafiu subsequently gave useful information that led to the arrest of other members of his gang.

    “One of the gang members, Sunday Kayode, was also traced to and arrested in Ondo state where he relocated after their operation while the other two members were arrested in Ikirun.

    “During investigation and interrogation of the suspects, the police discovered that the suspects robbed their victim of his cash and transferred N3 million from his account into one of theirs.

    “They then put him in his car and drove him to a secluded place where they set the car alight, while he was locked in the booth,” he said.

    Adeoye said the suspects were being prosecuted, adding that he had sent the condolence from the Inspector General of Police to the family of the deceased.

    Also, the CP said that the command had arrested two men with a human head and two human palms.

    He said that the men were suspected to have exhumed the human parts from a grave with the intention to use them for money rituals.

    Adeoye said that all the arrested suspects would be charged to court after the police would have concluded their investigations.

  • Angry youths set Area Commander’s Office ablaze

    Angry youths set ablaze on Friday set ablaze the Police Area Commander’s Office in Iwo, Osun State over alleged killing of one Tunde Nofiu by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

    The youths armed with cutlasses, clubs axe, charms and other dangerous weapons, reportedly were singing war songs before the attack on the police.

    Some of them carried placards with different inscriptions like “We are ready for war against policemen in Iwo,”  “We will resist oppression and suppression at all cost in the town,”   “Why must an innocent soul be killed by the police all in the name of carrying arms and ammunition.” among others.

    The youths were said to have gone wild and moving round the town to register their annoyance.

    The youth were said to have set ablaze the Area Commander’s Office located at Adeeke part of the town in the early hours of the day.

    It was gathered that on Thursday that SARS officials went to a beer parlour and allegedly got drunk and later shot the victim in the abdomen while returning from the spot.

    It was also gathered that the deceased was not attended to by the people for fear of being shot by the police.

    Investigation further revealed that the policemen on sensing danger after killing the boy reportedly ran away.

    Reasons for killing the deceased was unknown as some people linked the killing to accidental discharge.

    But some people accused the police of constant harrasement of the residents of the town, especially the youths.

    Reason for his being killed it was gathered was as a result of alleged accidental discharge from the police officials.

    Meanwhile, the police authorities said investigation into the matter has started.

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, said, on phone assured of justice, saying the police will get to the root of the matter.

    The Osun State of Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, has sought support of residents of the state for the security agecies in combating crimes.

    He made the call at a special prayer organized by the League of Imaams and Alfas in the state.

    Adeoye, who advised Nigerians to embrace community policing because of benefits in it, observed that “it is only when people learn to expose the evil around them that the society can be in peace.”

    He, therefore, charged the people to report any suspicious movements in and around their religious centers, including mosques and churches to the police.

    Also, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, enjoined Islamic clerics to preach more against societal ills and satanic deeds.

    Leading other Islamic clerics in prayer at the event, the Chief Imaam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, said it was wrong to attribute violence to Islam.

    The Islamic cleric, therefore, advised journalists not to misrepresent tenets of Islam, maintaining that Muslims stand for peace and justice.

    Police arrests man for raping 85-year-old woman

    A 29-year-old man, Kehinde Ariyo, has been arrested by the Osun Police Command for allegedly raping an 85-year-old woman to coma at Ilesa town in the state.

    The police commissioner in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Osogbo.

    Adeoye said the incident happened at Ogudu area in Ilesa, where the suspect forcefully had canal knowledge of the old woman after gaining access to her residence around 11pm on Oct. 27.

    He added that the woman sustained various degrees of injuries on her body, including her private organ, and eventually passed out in the process before she was resuscitated at a private hospital.

    According to Adeoye, the suspect lives in the same area where the victim resides, and had gone on errands for the old woman severally in the past.

    “The woman passed out during the rape, but came back to life after some hours, the suspect was arrested the next day.

    “This is the height of wickedness in our society. The boy injured the woman in the process, but she has been treated”, Adeoye said.

    The suspect admitted to have committed the act, claiming to have been drunk at the time of committing the heinous act.

    “Mama asked me to sleep on a couch in the passage. I was already drunk and did not know what happened afterwards,” he claimed.

    Osun: Police decorate 90 officers with new ranks

    The Commissioner of Police, Osun Command, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, on Tuesday advised promoted officers in the command to put in their best to justify their new designation.

    He gave the advice on Tuesday in Osun while decorating the 90 officers with their new ranks.

    “Your promotion is an indication of the recognition of your value. You are being promoted on the basis that you have added value in your various responsibilities.

    “Now that you have been elevated, it is pertinent to know that to whom much is given, much is expected.

    “You are expected to put in your best to project the image of the Nigerian police in accordance to the law,” he said.

    He urged the officers promoted to ASP rank to discharge effective and necessary superintending of officers under them by guarding and mentoring them.

    The police boss also called on the new SPs to be prepared for the task ahead, adding that they would be commanding police divisions and would likely become police division heads.

    The officers are:  eight Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP), promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP) and 82 Police Inspectors promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

    He also tasked the officers concerned to justify the trust reposed on them by Inspector-General and the police by refusing do anything that would put the Nigeria police to shame.

    Adeoye, however, admonished the officers to uphold the primary duty and role of the police at all times.

    He said the society looked up to them to provide adequate protection of lives and property in their new position.

    The police boss said that President Muhammodu Buhari was magnanimous to have extended his grace to the officers to be promoted.

    Adeoye thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for recommending the officers to the Police Service Commission for promotion.

    Police arrest men with human parts in Osun

    The  Police Command in Osun on Tuesday said it arrested three male suspects, with two human heads and hands in the state.

    The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, told newsmen in Osogbo that the suspects were arrested on Aug. 29 during a police stop and search operation.

    “On Aug. 29 at about 1;02 p.m, a police patrol team on a stop and search operation on Ogbomosho/Oyo Road, at Agboro Area, stopped a motorcycle with two persons on it.

    “The persons on the motorcycle were searched and two severed human hands with gloves and a human head were found with them, and they were promptly arrested,” he said

    Adeoye said in a similar case, on the same date at about 11:30 a.m, at Oba’s compound in Moro, Ipetumodu, one Adeniyi Adeyeye was also arrested with a human skull in his possession.

    He said detectives attached to the Ipetumodu Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspect and transfered him to Osogbo State Criminal Investigation Department.

    He said the skull found with the suspect was suspected to have been exhumed from a grave and that investigation was still ongoing on the matter.

    Adeoye, however, said all the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

    Robbers kill four policemen in Osun

    Armed robbers on Tuesday killed four policemen in  multiple bank robbery attacks in Iwo, Osun, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

    The  attacks,  which were targeted at  three  banks on  Bowen University road, Iwo, were  said to have been carried out at about  4.p.m.

    Confirming the robbery to the News Agency​ of Nigeria (NAN), the police spokesperson,  DSP Folashade Odoro, said the incident claimed four policemen.

    Odoro said the  Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fimihan Adeoye,  as well as top officials of the police and  DSS were presently in Iwo to deliberate on how to apprehend the hoodlums.

    NAN reports  that the  incident led to pandemonium  in the community as  students and other residents  were reported to have been injured as they scampered for safety.

  • Teenager nabbed with Indian hemp in Osun

    A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for being in possession of 29 wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp and seven wraps of weeds called “sconge.”

    The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, disclosed this at a news conference in Osogbo on Friday.

    Adeoye said one Akeem Ojuolape, who gave the weeds to the teenager to sell was also arrested by the police.

    He said one Ahmed Azeez was also arrested along with the duo on May 14, adding that the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

    The commissioner, however, said the teenager would be rehabilitated.
