    Buhari condoles with Kano market fire victims

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday commiserated with the victims of the fire outbreak in the popular Singa Market in Kano.

    Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, was said to be deeply saddened by the destruction of very valuable goods and properties in the inferno.

    Stressing that the President shares in the pain and anguish of all hardworking Nigerians who lost their wares and belongings in the unfortunate fire incident, the statement said that the President assured those who suffered losses from the fire incident that the Federal Government will do all within its powers to support the efforts of the Kano State government to ameliorate their plight.

  • Three feared dead in Lagos tanker fire

    Three persons were Tuesday feared killed following a tanker explosion at the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

    The incident which occurred near the General Hospital, Ikorodu around 6:30am, was said to have razed two vehicles and a 40 foot stationary cold room.

    It was learnt that Forte Oil tanker went in flames after it lost control while trying to climb the steep hill on Beach Road and exploded.

    The Nation gathered that the victims of the inferno including three male adults were burnt beyond recognition, while another who sustained serious injuries was rushed to the general hospital.

    The deceased were identified as the tanker driver, a shoe cobbler and a motorcyclist, just as the inferno also destroyed frozen foods in the cold store.

    However, the state fire service put the dead toll at one, stating that another male adult sustained burns.

    The agency’s director, Rasaq Fadipe who said firemen from Ikorodu were deployed to contain the situation, urged motorists to abide by road safety guidelines and install functional fire fighting gadgets.

    He also disclosed that the agency intervened in a fire outbreak at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island,  which gutted the administrative block, which is a wooden decking consisting of about 20 offices, with about 13 razed.

    According to him, it took firemen from both the navy and state agency about two hours to contain the situation to avoid its spreading to other areas.

    Fadipe also stated that investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
