Why ‘Iseoluwa’ is the intro to my fourth album, by Fireboy

Music star Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan aka Fireboy has opened up on why the track, ‘Iseoluwa’ led the songs on his fourth album, ‘Adedamola.’

In a chat, the YBNL/Empire Distribution signee noted that the song was made out of the clarity he has witnessed at a certain point in his life.

“I just had more clarity during that period, so I made that song out of that clarity, and it just made sense to open the album with that song. A lot of my fans that are very familiar with my music over the years know that I’m always very intentional about my intros. My intros on my albums are always inspiring in some ways, so I felt it was only right to introduce a very personal album like that,” he said. The award-winning singer went further to disclose that he recorded the song at a low point in his life when he was relearning and learning from various experiences.

He said: “I recorded that song at a sort of low point in my life. It was a period of learning, and relearning, and learning lessons from experience. It’s not always a pleasurable experience, to be honest, but it was very essential for growth, and during that period I realised a lot of things. A lot of things came into perspective—a lot of things that truly mattered, over everything I had been chasing, or everything else I had aspired to have.”

‘Adedamola’ is Fireboy’s fourth album under the Olamide owned YBNL imprint and the music project has 14-tracks on it.

Fireboy said Nigerian artists need to take advantage of their newfound global recognition and build a structure for their home music industry.

“One thing I want to talk about is that we are here in the [Western world] now. Afrobeat is here now. So what is the way forward? What next?

“I personally think this Afrobeats to the world thing shouldn’t be given more attention. I mean, we are already here. even before the Grammy [created an African category], we’ve already been recognised. We’ve achieved so much. So we need to build a structure. And more concerned about the future of the genre; the sustainability.”

“God gave me ‘Peru’, so the song blew up, an amazing record. You know when a song blows up and it becomes this annoying record you hear everywhere in Africa, in Nigeria, especially in Lagos.

“It needed something special so it came in the form of that collaboration with Ed Sheeran. I was in the studio that day. I remember when I got the call from Mr Kareem, he works with my label empire and he was like guess what? Ed Sheeran is going to be on your record.

“Check your DM, I think he has sent you a DM. He has recorded the verse, everything is ready and I was like what? But apparently, Jamal Edwards sent the song to Ed Sheeran.

“So after I got the call, I checked my messages on Instagram and he had sent me a DM together with a voice note and when I listened to the verse, I was like this verse is fire. He is an amazing person, he is a genuine person.”
