Oshiomhole hails Trump’s recognition of First Lady

Sen. Adams Oshiomhole (APC-Edo North) says U.S. President Donald Trump’s public recognition of Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, carries a strong message of diplomacy, unity, and national cohesion.

He spoke on Friday to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, describing the encounter as cordial and respectful.

Oshiomhole highlighted that Trump’s remarks emphasise religious harmony, noting that Tinubu is a Muslim, while his wife is a Christian pastor, symbolising Nigeria’s religious diversity.

“The recognition shows Trump understands that the Nigerian President is a Muslim, but he celebrates his Christian wife, who is also a pastor.

“So there can be no tension between the Qur’an and the Bible,” Oshiomhole explained, saying the message is a model for peaceful coexistence.

He stressed that the development should remind Nigerians to cooperate for the common good, overcome national challenges collectively, and strengthen unity across all regions and communities.

Oshiomhole said governance must deliver benefits fairly to all citizens, noting that shared progress is essential for social stability and national development.

The senator revealed he visited President Tinubu to greet him and wish him a happy new year, having not seen him since the start of 2026.

He also congratulated the President over Trump’s respectful comments about the First Lady, describing her as responsible, respectable, and an inspiration to Nigerians nationwide.

“The public applause following the recognition reflects the positive impression created. For me as a Nigerian, that is worth celebrating,” Oshiomhole said, urging unity and national pride.

First Lady, Ooni of Ife launch ‘Dream Centre’ to mentor young Nigerians

    …I’m a good loyal domestic engineer—Remi Tinubu

…laments over absence of role model in life of youths

The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in partnership with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), on Thursday unveiled the ‘Dream Centre’—a mentorship and modelling hub designed to guide young Nigerians towards purposeful living and responsible leadership.

The centre, established by the Ooni of Ife within the Obafemi Awolowo University campus in Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been equipped by NITDA with books, digital media powered by Artificial Intelligence, and other resources to support youth development.

At the inauguration, Senator Tinubu emphasized the importance of role models in helping young people navigate life with direction and focus.

She highlighted hard work, discipline, and integrity as key values in shaping the future, particularly for girls, and noted that the centre would provide mentorship, skills development, and value-based guidance to help youths realise their potential.

The First Lady described her own journey as a product of vision, hard work, and divine grace, expressing a desire to serve as a role model for young girls aspiring to achieve great things.

She lamented that many young girls today lack mentors who can guide and inspire them.

According to her, “I should be a case study for young girls. They will talk about the girl child every time but nowadays people don’t have role models anymore, we live in an age and time where, even when people are doing well, out of envy we try to say a lot about them that is mainly not true. Role models are people who helped me shape my life.

“I wanted to be a teacher and I ended up being one.  When my husband became governor, I was a house wife and a very good domestic engineer, very loyal. Apart from being a teacher, if you asked me what would I like to be, I like being a housewife and taking care of my home especially my husband. I am,very very territorial and believe all women are supposed to be like that, be territorial around your husband because whoever your husband is that’s who you are.”

“Throughout my career, they have given me a lot of awards but this award, I can’t use it to build any place. You know at times, I get overwhelmed by it but I thought about the camp I will use as a centre, where girls can come in and be inspired and able to green groom these girls using the word of God because the word of God has played a lot in my life.

“This centre is not for girls alone. It is also for boys. Go into that dream centre, be encouraged, dream your own dreams and you will see that and be prayerful. Seek the face of God, don’t be overly ambitious. What you will become God has already deposited in you, don’t be covetous of other people’s dreams. Build yours.”

Mrs Tinubu lauded the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for his commitment to building the dream centre, urging the university students to take the opportunity the dream centre provides.

“This centre has the vision of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and storytelling to preserve our history. In particular, the incredible lives of our First Lady, and the mother of the nation. This centre is a unique centre that converts the power of technology, storytelling, to preserve our history. So that our younger one, and the generation to come will have access to our history and tools to navigate their lives.”

Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, in his address, said the dream centre would encourage a lot of young people to achieve their goals.

Speaking about the Firstlady, the monarch said, “You are truly worthy to be celebrated. This place used to be a jungle. My mama is a dreamer. All her dreams come true. Everything she lays her hand upon always prospers. This is why that her life is worthy of emulation. The Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Center will encourage a lot of young people,” Ooni noted.

… Urges innovation, better welfare as education reform takes centre stage under Renewed Hope Agenda

… As best teacher emerges big winner, goes home with N50m, house, car

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday described Nigerian teachers as the “quiet architects of great nations,” urging them to embrace innovation as the Federal Government and state governors unveiled fresh measures to revive the education sector under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Delivering the keynote address at the National Teachers’ Summit 2026, themed “Empowering Teachers; Strengthening the Education System,” held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, the First Lady stressed that “meaningful educational and national progress can only be achieved when teachers are adequately equipped, motivated, and supported.”

Drawing from her background as a former classroom teacher, the First Lady underscored the profession’s enduring influence.

“Teachers are the quiet architects of great nations, shaping young minds, instilling values, and nurturing hope. I understand first-hand the demands of teaching and the enduring impact of teachers in shaping societies”, she said.

She commended the Federal Ministry of Education for launching the EduRevamp Portal, a new platform for continuous professional development.

“I congratulate the Federal Ministry of Education on the launch of the ‘Edu Revamp Portal’, an initiative that will ensure continuous professional development for our teachers. The framework of this initiative will no doubt improve learning outcomes across the country. I say, well done,” she stated.

Mrs. Tinubu reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to education, noting: “Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, education remains an essential pillar of national development… The administration is committed to sustained investment in teachers’ welfare, professional development, and the skills needed to prepare learners for a rapidly changing world.”

Addressing teachers directly, the First Lady said “to my fellow teachers, I thank you for your hard work, commitment, and dedication. I charge you to continue to pursue excellence, embrace innovation, and uphold integrity as you shape the next generation of leaders.”

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, described teachers as “nation builders, character shapers, and custodians of our collective future.

“No education system can rise above the quality, motivation, professionalism, and welfare of its teachers”, Professor Zulum said, noting that teachers serve more than 70 million learners across urban, rural, conflict, riverine and nomadic communities.

He outlined steps taken by governors, including mass recruitment, professional development in literacy, numeracy, STEM and inclusive education, improved wages, rural incentives, promotion reforms and performance rewards.

“These efforts reflect a shared understanding that meaningful education reform begins with placing qualified and motivated teachers in our classrooms,” he said.

Earlier, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced substantial cash rewards for outstanding teachers and formally unveiled the EduRevamp portal.

“No nation can rise above the quality of its teachers. No reform, no matter how well designed, can succeed unless teachers are empowered, motivated, supported, and respected,” he said.

Alausa explained that after a rigorous, merit-based process, 12 finalists emerged nationwide, each to receive ₦25 million, while the overall Best Teacher of the Year would earn ₦50 million.

“This is more than a reward. It is a national signal that teaching is a noble, respected, and valued profession in Nigeria,” he said.

The Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Ahmad, pledged to “restore pride in the teaching profession,” urging educators to seize new opportunities under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

    • …says award fires her up to do more

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has said her work ethic is inspired by the example of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a hard-working leader whose commitment to duty pushes her to do more.

Mrs Tinubu spoke in Abuja on Monday while formally receiving the notification of her selection as Person of the Year by Leadership Newspapers during a courtesy visit by the organisation’s management.

“I like to work hard because my husband is a hard-working man,” the First Lady said, adding that the recognition had further motivated her to deepen her service to Nigerians.

According to a statement issued by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady said, “with this, I am fired up for the year. I am guided by the scripture which says I can do all things… there is still more for me to do—what I am doing for the common man”.

She thanked the newspaper for the honour, describing it as a call to greater responsibility, and expressed appreciation that her efforts as a woman were being acknowledged.

While noting that society often describes the world as male-dominated, Mrs Tinubu said this reality only challenges women to work harder and remain focused.

“I have never seen men as a challenge, but that makes me know that I have to work three times as hard to get ahead,” she said, urging young women to be confident, focused, and hardworking.

The First Lady also paid tribute to the late founder of the Leadership Group, Sam Nda-Isaiah, whom she described as a man of integrity, and commended the current management for sustaining his legacy.

Earlier, the Chairman of Leadership Newspapers, Zainab Nda-Isaiah, said the decision to honour Mrs Tinubu as Person of the Year 2025 was unanimous, citing the impact of her interventions nationwide through the Renewed Hope Initiative since 2023.

Senior Vice Chairman of the Group, Azu Ishiekwene, said the First Lady had redefined the Office, turning it into a platform for compassionate leadership that impacts lives beyond ethnic, religious, or political lines.

The award ceremony is scheduled for February 12, 2026, marking the 18th edition of the honour, which President Tinubu has received three times in the past.

    • …love on Wheels project to boost healthcare delivery in rural, underserved communities
    • …as Taraba gov, NYSC DG hail First Lady’s non-partisan intervention as life-saving, far-reaching

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Monday officially handed over three mobile clinic units to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Taraba State Government, as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in underserved communities across the country.

The clinics, delivered under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) Love on Wheels project, were handed over at a ceremony in Abuja.

Two of the units were allocated to the National Youth Service Corps, while the third was donated to the Taraba State Government.

Mrs Tinubu, who is also the National Chairman of the RHI, described the initiative as a practical demonstration of “care in action,” aimed at taking healthcare beyond hospital walls, improving access, shortening response times, and supporting flexible medical services, particularly in emergencies and hard-to-reach areas.

She explained that the two mobile clinics for NYSC were pledged on January 23, 2025, during the commissioning of the Nigerian Digital Museum in Abuja, while the Taraba unit was promised during her official visit to the state on April 11, 2025, at a programme for frontline health workers.

According to her, the delay in delivery was due to the clinics being built from scratch to meet certification standards.

Emphasising the non-partisan nature of the intervention, the First Lady said the donation to Taraba State, then governed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reflected RHI’s commitment to putting Nigerians first, irrespective of political affiliation.

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas expressed gratitude to the First Lady, describing the donation as a life-saving intervention that transcends party lines.

He said the mobile clinic would significantly improve access to quality healthcare in rural and hard-to-reach communities across the state.

“This is not just a facility; it is hope on wheels and a life-saving intervention for communities that have waited long for quality healthcare,” Kefas said, pledging transparent and responsible deployment of the clinic in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, commended the First Lady’s initiative, describing her as a public health champion and pledging federal support to ensure effective utilisation of the clinics by NYSC and Taraba State.

Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Oluseye Nafiu, said the two mobile clinics would significantly expand the corps’ rural health outreach, enabling medical teams to reach tens of thousands more Nigerians.

He described the donation as a strategic boost that would deepen access to free and quality healthcare in remote communities nationwide.

  • First Lady welcomes five New Year babies

First Lady welcomes five New Year babies

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu yesterday urged fellow citizens to embrace generosity as a pathway to attracting abundant blessings.

She said intentional generosity towards the less privileged should become a way of life in the New Year.

Addressing reporters after receiving the first babies of 2026 at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) at Jabi in Abuja, the First Lady said giving is a powerful principle that attracts blessings, prosperity, and growth.

“Make sure you are generous. This year, I tell people: if you want money, you have to sow money in the lives of the less privileged. Sow money. Whatever you sow, you will receive. If you like to give clothes to people, you’ll receive abundant clothes. You can’t sow corn and receive corn. Be generous; it’s a year of generosity. Our giving should be intentional,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu, who was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud, said she received five newborns yesterday at the hospital.

The babies included the first baby of the year, a female infant delivered at exactly midnight by a 26-year-old first-time mother, Patience Adakole; a set of triplets (two boys and a girl) delivered by Blessing Oragwu after 13 years of waiting, and another baby boy.

“I welcomed five in total: the baby of the year, a girl, and then the triplets, the mother has waited for 13 years, which is wonderful; and another baby boy,” the First Lady said.

She described the moment as deeply fulfilling for her.

Drawing from cultural symbolism, Mrs. Tinubu expressed optimism that Nigeria will be blessed this year.

“In Yoruba land, when you have girls, they will say they come with ease. So, we believe that this year is going to be a great year for us as a nation: peace in abundance, prosperity in abundance,” she said.

Reflecting on the peaceful passage of the country into the New Year, Mrs. Tinubu added: “I’m excited because last year was something else. All of us who made it to the New Year should be thankful. There were so many deaths that we shouldn’t even think about. We thank God for His mercy and we believe that this year will be a blessed year for us.”

Also, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Aminu Yusuf, stated that birth registration is important to keeping an accurate national data and a critical legal identity for every child.

“It becomes a legal document that the child will be proud of by the time he grows. It gives the child access to education, health, and whatever you can think of,” Yusuf said.

The NPC chairman announced plans to decentralise the New Year birth registration across the country.

“By next year, similar activities should be replicated in all the states. We want people to be aware of the importance of registration. First ladies visit hospitals, but we want them to carry along our staff so the process is institutionalised,” he said.

NPC’s Director-General, Telson Osifo Ojogun, said the commission’s role is primarily data-driven.

“The National Population Commission does not directly manage population; we manage the data that informs how other ministries and stakeholders manage population,” Ojogun stated.
