    Despite continued transfer speculation in the January window, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru remains a Lazio player with no move materialising before the deadline.

    Lazio were able to block or reject offers, including reported interest from Premier League clubs and a recent loan bid from Bournemouth, which the Serie A side turned down as per Daily Sports.

    Dele-Bashiru has struggled for regular starts under the current coaching setup but remains part of Lazio’s plans, and the club is not under pressure to sell this winter.

    Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri has voiced his strong support for Super Eagles midfielder.  Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, affirming that the 25-year-old will be a key figure for the club in the upcoming 2025/26 Serie A season.

    Dele-Bashiru had a mixed debut season at the Stadio Olimpico, struggling for consistency under former manager Marco Baroni—a situation that sparked speculation about his future at the club.

    The Super Eagles midfielder arrived at Lazio last summer from Turkish side Hatayspor following a standout spell in the Süper Lig. Despite facing challenges in adapting, he still managed to register five goals and three assists across 29 appearances in all competitions.

    Sarri, however, believes the best is yet to come.

    “Dele-Bashiru is a very strong player. If he can pick up a few tactical nuances, he’ll be a big help to us,” the Italian tactician told Pazzidifanta.

    His comments seem to put an end to speculation about Dele-Bashiru’s role under the new regime and suggest he remains firmly in Sarri’s plans, even amid potential tactical changes.

    Dele-Bashiru is currently involved in preseason training with the rest of the Lazio squad as they prepare for the new campaign and adapt to Sarri’s system.

    Despite flashes of brilliance — three goals and an assist in 20 league appearances and two goals with two assists in eight Europa League outings — the 24-year-old Super Eagles star struggled to win the full trust of former manager Marco Baroni, who frequently left him on the bench.

    Returning Bashiru propels Lazio to Europa League last eight

    Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru returned from injury to make a cameo appearance for Lazio who progressed to the quarter final of the UEFA Europa League despite playing a 1-1 draw at home to Czech Republic side, Viktoria Plzen yesterday.

    Bashiru featured in his seventh UEFA Europa League game for Lazio when he was introduced in the 79th minute of the game in place of Pedro.

    He came on barely two minutes after their equaliser through Patric as they were initially trailing at home after Pavel Sulc was allowed to score off Rafiu Durosinmi’s assist in the 52nd minute.

    Lazio cruised to the next round of the competition 3-2 on aggregate having won the first leg 2-1 in Plzen.

    The Super Eagles midfielder has played in 24 games in all competitions this term with five goals and two assists.

    Another Nigerian at Viktoria Plzen is Durosinmi who bagged his fourth game in the competition. He has had 15 games in all competitions with eight goals to his credit and seven assists to his credit.

    Lazio head coach Marco Baroni has revealed a cheering update about Fisayo Dele-Bashiru that will gladden  Super Eagles coach, Eric Sekou Chelle.

    Speaking ahead of their yesterday’s UEFA Europa League Round of 16 away match against Viktoria Plzen, Baroni  said the Nigerian would return to action before the international break.

    Dele-Bashiru sustained an ankle injury during Lazio’s goalless draw with Venezia, and missed the Coppa Italia loss to Inter Milan as well as the Serie A victory against AC Milan at the San Siro.

    “Castellanos and Dele could return before the break, but Hysaj’s recovery will follow a different timeline, and he is expected back immediately after the break,” Baroni said before match at the Doosan Arena, adding both players except Elseid Hysaj,  could return to Lazio’s team before the international break.

    “We have analysed Viktoria repeatedly and anticipate difficulties on the pitch because they play an aggressive and fast-paced style of football. They excel at vertical plays, have physical strength, and are aware of the challenges we will face. We will need to approach the game with the right mental and physical focus.”

    Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru notched his third Serie A goal of the season from 15 games to round off Lazio’s 5-1 thrashing  of Monza in Rome yesterday.

    Bashiru that came on in the 65th  minute was on the score sheet in the 88th minute to crown an eventful evening for Lazio who remain in the fourth spot with 45 points from 24 games.

    The Nigerian has scored five goals and made two assists from 21 games in all competitions.

    In Spain, Umar Sadiq bagged his third game for relegation haunted Valencia since his move to the club in the January transfer window to help his on loan club to a 2-0 home win over Leganes.

    Sadiq had featured seven times for Real Sociedad before he made the switch to Valencia. He was introduced by his on loan club in the 59th  minute in place of Hugo Duro and he was a thorn in the flesh of the Leganes’ defence to ensure they protect their 2-0 lead.

    Valencia are 18th  on the log with 22 points.

    Fast rising Chrisantus Uche played only the first half of Getafe 1-0 away win at Deportivo Alaves. Uche clocked his 23rd league game of the season in his debut campaign with two goals to his credit already.

    Elsewhere  in the Turkish Super Lig, Brighton Osayi-Samuel was introduced in the 70th  minute of Fenerbahce’s 2-0 away win at Alanyanspor. It was his 15th game in the league and 25 games in all competitions.

    Due to the latest win, Fenerbahce still remain in second spot behind Galatasaray who started Victor Osimhen in their botched  home tie against Adana Demirspor.

    Osimhen did get his 17th  game of the season but the visitors, Adana Demirspor inexplicably stopped the game and headed back to their base on the 32nd minute for the centre referee to call off the game.

    In Holland, Hamdi Akujobi’s Almere City returned to winning ways after several losses in their 1-0 win at Utrecht. They are still last in the Dutch Eredivisie table with 13 points from 21 games. Akujobi has played in all the games.
