    Fifteen years ago, Flavour N’abania‘s second album, ‘Uplifted,’ dropped onto the music scene. This was a first showcase of his talent. With powerful vocals, masterful highlife production, and a deep connection to his cultural roots, ‘Uplifted’ solidified Flavour’s reputation as a gifted artist.

    At the time of its release, ‘Uplifted’ smashed through borders and cultural divides, all thanks to Flavour’s deep commitment to celebrating his Nigerian roots, especially his Igbo heritage. This powerful connection to his culture has made him a major force, not just in Nigeria, particularly in the East, but also among the Igbo community dotted around the world.

    The sheer success of Flavour’s cultural expression is highlighted by Spotify data from ‘Uplifted’ and his other tracks. Even though his songs are deeply rooted in his culture and often sung in Igbo, they’re getting massive plays all over the globe.

    ‘Uplifted’ itself has stayed a big deal on streaming platforms, with its standout tracks racking up some serious numbers. Among the most-streamed hits from the ‘Uplifted’ album are ‘Ashawo Remix,’ ‘Adamma,’ and ‘Oyi’. These tracks, along with other timeless fan favourites like ‘Time To Party,’ ‘Nwa Baby,’ and ‘Game Changer,’ have all contributed significantly to Flavour’s overall streaming success, proving their lasting appeal.

    Reflecting on the album’s anniversary during an exclusive chat, Flavour revealed that for him, ‘Adamma’ truly captured the essence of Flavour from the’ Uplifted’ album era.”

    Flavour’s music really does have a universal pull. His songs have appeared in over 2 million user-created playlists on Spotify, demonstrating the significant connection people have with and share his tunes. In the last three years, from 2022 to 2024, Flavour’s music has experienced a growth in streams, with a total global stream increase of 134% and a 573% increase across Sub-Saharan Africa.

    While 51% of his total audience is in Nigeria, his influence stretches far and wide, with the USA, UK, Canada, South Africa, and France all among his top listening countries.

    Leading Flavour’s listenership in Nigeria is a strong showing from Lagos, accounting for 38% of his Nigerian audience, while Abuja and Rivers State also follow closely, making up 22% and 16% respectively, together claiming 76% of his Nigerian audience. He also enjoys love in the east as two Eastern Nigerian cities, Enugu and Onitsha, break into his global top 10. Big international cities like Greater London, Johannesburg, and New York City feature prominently, too. This wide geographical spread shows how his music crosses all sorts of borders.

    Flavour’s audience is diverse, with Gen Zs (18-24 year olds) as his biggest fans globally and across Sub-Saharan Africa. This strong youth appeal is vital for his long-term success. While his music celebrates women, men form the majority of his listeners globally (57%) and in Sub-Saharan Africa (63%).

    Flavour’s strong link to his Igbo roots, seen in his music, has driven his global success, acting as a cultural bridge for Nigerian traditions. The ongoing popularity of ‘Uplifted’ and his other songs on streaming platforms proves that genuine cultural expression, mixed with great artistry, ensures lasting success today.

  • Flavour opens school for the blind in Liberia

    AFRO highlife singer Flavour N’abania has opened a school for the blind in Liberia.

    It was a fulfilment of a promise made to Semah G. Weifur, the blind boy whom Flavour met two years ago in Liberia during a visit. The school building is named after Semah.

    He was accompanied for the launch of the school by ace music producer, Masterkraft.

    And to honour Semah on his recent visit to Liberia, Flavour uploaded the picture of the school on Instagram and captioned the picture, “Semah’s School in Liberia.”

    Flavour first connection with Semah was reported in 2017 after he was impressed by the youngster’s rendition of his iconic single, ‘Mama’ at a peace concert organised by Liberian singer, Juli Endee.

    Flavour then featured him on ‘Most High,’ a gospel track off his album, ‘Ijele the Traveller,’ in the same year.

    Highlife king Flavour Nabania has ended his year with a fun-filled, exciting concert in Anambra sponsored by Life Continental Beer.

    The show also featured other acts including the likes of Phyno, Chidinma, Obiligbo Brothers and Awilo Longomba.

    Flavour, who began his performance with a rendition of his fan-favorite song “Oyi”, electrified the stage as he thrilled fans all night long with his live instruments.

    The concert marked the end of a six-day period in which Life Beer provided southeasterners with non-stop entertainment. The week started with two “bridge of progress” parties in Anambra and Owerri, on the 26th and 28th respectively, before heading to Awka, Anambra for the Flavour of Africa concert.

    “Life Lager is the first beer to be brewed in the southeast of Nigeria,” said the Marketing Director, Nigerian Breweries, Plc, Emmanuel Oriakhi, after the concert.

    “The brand has always been very close to its root and its people. This year we took steps to further deepen this connection. We realize how much it means for the people of Enugu to be able to celebrate the year-end festivities with friends and family and we wanted to be part of that experience for our loyal consumers. We at Life Beer also wanted to give them a celebratory experience that will not only resonate with them but also be equally memorable, hence our decision to host the “Bridge of progress parties and sponsor the Flavour of Africa Concert. We thank our consumers for consistently choosing Life and we wish every one of them a very happy New Year.”

    Flavour, Styl-Plus thrill Abuja crowd, Tekno falls flat

    The Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Abuja was host to a number of Nigerian musicians Saturday night. Popular highlife performer Flavour graced the stage alongside crowd favourite Tekno Miles and veterans of the music industry, Styl Plus.

    The concert organisers El-carnival and Play Network sold tickets at the rates of N1 million Naira for gold table, N2million for Platinum table and 7000 Naira for regular tickets.

    The News men reported that the organisers pulled out an estimated crowd of 1000 fans into the Congress hall for the event.

    Styl-Plus first graced the stage with performances that rolled back the years.

    The News men reports, the music group performed different hits including, “Olufunmi” and “Imagine that” from the Expressions album and “four years” from the Back and Better album much to the delight of the Abuja crowd.

    One of the members of the group popularly known as Shifi, revealed his excitement to The News men.

    He said “It is always great to perform in Abuja because this is home. This is where it all began”.

    Flavour N’abania took his chance to excite the crowd with his performance and did not disappoint. The “Ada Ada” crooner got many people up and dancing to his popular tunes.

    A fan who revealed her name as Isioma Okolo told The News Agency of Nigeria of her excitement at watching one of her favourite artists perform.

    She said “My favourite Nigerian musician has done it again, I have been to some of his shows before and he raises the bar every time”.

    Flavour seemed to raise the bar too high this time as he got off the stage to allow Tekno end the show.

    Tekno had the chance to impress the waiting and anticipating crowd. However,  he let his Abuja fans down with his uninspiring performance as he  murmured into the mic.

    The News men reported that the singer was heard murmuring into the mic and sarcastically saying the money he was paid had finished, much to the disappointment of some of his fans.

    Mr Emmanuel Kevin who had come from Keffi, Nasarawa State to attend the show expressed his disappointment at Tekno. He said “It was disappointing to see.  I could hear him every time he instructed his DJ to change a song half way through performing it. He seemed to be rushing somewhere”.

    Another fan who preferred to be called Freda also expressed her disappointment in Tekno. “It was as if he did not want to be in Abuja”, she said.

    Tekno has been criticised in the past for his bad attitude towards his fans. This latest event will likely increase those criticisms.

  • FLAVOUR THRILLS KADUNA RESIDENTS

    POPULAR highlife crooner and Glo brand ambassador, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour N’abania, was the star attraction at the Kaduna edition of the flagship show of the telecommunications company, the Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour, held recently at the Castle Event Centre.

    Flavour, who put up an exceptionally brilliant performance at the night of fun, dazzled the crowd to the extent that they requested him to pull off his shirt so that they could behold his famous “six packs”.

    Other artistes who performed at the show were Marvin Records diva, Di’Ja, Flavour, Phyno, Timaya and Olamide.

    The show was anchored by two Nollywood damsels, Uche Jombo and Ebube Nwagbo. It also drew a huge crowd of fun lovers from the city and the neighbouring towns and villages.

    The opening delight for the night of complete entertainment was the performance by the various budding stars in the city, with the Arewa singer, Classiq, distinguishing himself among the lot.

    Marvin Records female vocalist, Di’Ja, formally opened the evening of fun.  Taking advantage of her Northern Nigeria ancestry, Di’Ja connected seamlessly with the audience. She was a sight to behold on stage as she introduced her performance with flawless Hausa diction to the admiration of the crowd which responded in good measure.

    Immediately after, the other three Glo brand ambassadors, Chibuzor Nelson Azubike, a.k.a. Phyno; the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Inetimi Alfred Odon (Timaya), and Olamide Adedeji, the Shakitibobo master, were unleashed on the crowd. The trio took the show to the next level with dazzling performances.

    Veteran actors, Victor Osuagwu, Patience Ozokwor, a.k.a. Mama G, and Richard Mofe-Damijo, were the celebrity guests along with Sani Danja. Danja later on took to the stage to give the audience good music.

    Flavour gets accolades for making blind boy’s dream come true

    The dream of a blind boy, Semah G. Weifur, who met his idol Flavour N’abania in Liberia early this year, has come true when he featured in Flavour N’abania’s latest single, ‘Most High.’

    He shared the video of the journey with his fans. And the video as at Monday, had, 1, 767,479 views.

    Semar, who confessed to listening to Flavour’s songs on radio, made a request from a humanitarian, Helen Sirleaf, who paid him a visit, stating “I can’t see you, but I can feel you. I know your song, but my dream in life is to meet Flavour. I am blind, but I want to be a musician. I want to sing a song for Flavour.”

    And during Flavour’s visit to an orphanage on March 17, Semah did a song on the greatness of a mother, which he titled ‘Mama you too much’.

    On March 19, 2017, Flavour met with Semah in Liberia.

    He was privileged to visit Flavour in Nigeria in May where he had a studio session with his idol.

    “I believe that God joined mine and Semah’s path together,” said Flavour, who has been receiving.

    “This young boy is so special, unique and talented. It makes me so happy that I can share our continued journey with you.”

    Speaking on the positive impact of the artiste to the life of the little boy, Ruggedman stated, “Flavour is hailed as a hero for doing collaboration with a blind young boy outside Nigeria. He is representing Nigeria and showing the rest of the world a positive side to Nigeria. Are these the things out govt want to ban? I guess Nigeria will not be going for the Olympics, World Cup and Nations Cup unless they are held in Nigeria.

    FLAVOUR N’abania now Onga ambassador

    NIGERIAN Highlife crooner, Flavour N’abania, who recently returned from a musical tour of South Africa, has been named the face of popular seasoning, Onga, in a deal said to worth some millions of naira.

    Until now, top Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, had been the only known celebrity who is the face of Onga.

    Flavour, as he is famously called, started out as a drummer and pianist for an Enugu-based band. After learning to play drums professionally, he received an offer to perform at the City Centre, Enugu.

    In 2005, Flavour released his debut album, N’abania, on Obaino Music.

    Flavour later collaborated with Mr. Raw on the album’s lead single titled, N’abania, which was recorded at Kingsley Ogoro’s Studio in Lagos.

    Following the relative success of his debut album, Flavour released Uplifted in 2010. He also followed it up with Blessed in 2012 through 2nite Entertainment and iROCKING Ltd.
