    Court jails two labourers two months each for stealing

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced two labourers, Dainel Ofologhe, and Bayo Solomon, to two months imprisonment each for stealing two cell phone worth N200,000.

    Ofologhe and Solomon, who reside at Lagos Street, Garki II, Abuja, were convicted after they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

    The judge, Sadiq Abubakar, gave the convicts an option to pay N5, 000 fine each, and warned them to desist from committing crime.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh,  had told the court that one Young Piero of Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Jan. 25.

    Auhioboh said that the convicts formed a criminal intention and made away with the complainant’s two cell phones, value at N200, 000 .

    The prosecutor told the court that during police investigation, the phones were recovered from the convicts .
    The offence contravened Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

    Man jailed for stealing fan

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 23-year-old man, Abubakar Joseph, to four months imprisonment for stealing a standing fan.

    Joseph, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code.

    The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, in his judgment, said the defendant admitted committing the offence and the court had no option than to sentence him accordingly.

    He said that the punishment would serve as deterrent to other would be offenders.

    The Prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Garba Yusuf of Road 351, Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on Sept. 25.

    Auhioboh told the court that at about 11 p.m. the convict dishonestly and smartly trespassed into Yusuf’s compound through the fence.

    He said the convict stole Yusuf’s standing fan and his car engine fan worth N20,000, but he was apprehended with the items.

    She said during police investigation and interrogation, Joseph admitted committing the offence.

    Two men jailed 15 months for stealing bag

    An Abuja Grade 1Area Court in Karmo on Monday sentenced two men: Ikechukwu Udume, 25, and Kalu Okoro, 22, to 15 months’ imprisonment for stealing a bag.

    Udume and Okoro of no fixed address were convicted on a charge of stealing contrary to Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

    The presiding judge, Abubakar Sadiq, passed the sentence when Udume and Okoro pleaded guilty to the charge.

    He, however, gave them an option of N15,000-fine and warned the convicts to desist from criminal activities.

    The prosecuting counsel, Florence Auhioboh, had earlier on told the court that one Chioma Andrew of Gora Village in Kaduna State reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Sept. 4.

    Auhioboh told the court that Udume and Okoro had gone to Jabi-Lagos Park in Abuja and stole a travelling bag belonging to Chioma Andrew on Sept.4 at 8 p.m.

    She said during police investigation and interrogation, Udume and Okoro admitted to have committed the offence.

    Auhioboh, however, said that following plea by one of the accused, the prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily under Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015.

    Court sentences man to six lashes for stealing maize

    An FCT Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, on Thursday ordered a Scavenger, Anas Abdulkari to be given six strokes of the cane for stealing maize.

    Abdulkari, 20, resident of Gidan Bola Jabi, Abuja, was sentenced for criminal trespass and theft after he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

    “I’m so sorry sir for stealing the maize, I took only three maize because I was very hungry; please forgive me,’’ he said.

    The Judge, Abubakar Sadiq said that the punishment would have been severe if he had not pleaded guilty to save the court the pains of long prosecution.

    Earlier, the court was told that one Alhaji Sale Ali of Jabi Behind Delta Line reported the matter to Utako Police Station on Aug. 21.

    The prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, told the court that the convict criminally went into Ali’s farm and harvested maize without his consent.

    Auhioboh said that the convict, who was apprehended and handed over to the police immediately, had in the course of interrogation, admitted committing the offence.

    The prosecutor said the actions violated Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code, and asked the court for summary trial after Abdulkadir pleaded guilty in line with Section 347 of the Administration of Criminal Justices Act, 2015.

    Fish seller jailed three months for reneging on payment agreement

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, sentenced a fish seller, Mohammed Sani, 32, to three months imprisonment, for buying fish worth N70,000 on credit, and refusing to pay.

    The fish seller, who resides in Kado village, was convicted on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine.

    Sadiq also ordered the convict to pay back the N70, 000 to the complainant and advised him to desist from committing crimes and be a truthful businessman.

    He said that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other offenders.

    Sani, who pleaded guilty to the charges, begged the court to temper justice with mercy because he acted in ignorance and that he sold the fish on credit.

    The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Rabi Abdul reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on Aug. 26.

    Auhioboh said the convict sometime in May, bought some fresh fish for N70,000 on credit from the complainant and promised to pay him, but reneged on his promise.

    He said that the convict converted the money to his personal use, and all efforts made to recover the money proved abortive.

    The prosecutor told the court that during Police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.

    He said that the offence was punishable under Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    Teacher sentenced for mischief

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 32-year-old teacher, Godwin Lawrence, to one-month imprisonment for mischief.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine.

    He also ordered him to pay N15,000 as compensation to the nominal complainant.

    Sadiq advised the convict to desist from committing crimes, adding that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to other offenders.

    Lawrence, who resides at Karmo village, was convicted on a count charge.

    The convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge, urged the court to temper justice with mercy that he acted out of ignorance.

    The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, had told the court that one Isiaka Adama, of same address with the convict, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on Aug. 25.

    Auhioboh said that the convict on that same date was walking on the main road, the complainant horned several times but he refused to move.

    He started insulting him and broke the front wind screen of the complainant’s car valued at N15, 000.

    During the Police investigation, he confessed to the crime and begged for mercy.

    The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Section 327 of the Penal Code.

    Court jails house agent 16 months for absconding with N800,000

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced one Husseini Narumfa, a house agent, to 16 months imprisonment for absconding with a would-be tenant’s N800, 000.

    The complainant, Prince Sunday sometime in July 2017, paid the money into the convict’s bank account as fresh rent for an apartment.

    The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, convicted Narumfa as he admitted committing the offences.

    Narumfa, a resident of Utako in the FCT, was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and cheating.

    The judge, however, awarded the convict a N20, 000 option of fine, and warned him to view the reprieve as a second chance to become a better citizen.

    Sadiq also ordered the convict to return the N800, 000 he took from the complainant, adding that paying back that money was also a key condition to meet before he could regain his freedom.

    Mrs Florence Auhioboh, the prosecuting officer, had told the court that Sunday of No. 20 Usman Zaki St. Utako, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on Aug. 16

    Auhioboh averred that sometime in July 2017, the complainant paid N800, 000 into the convict’s bank account to secure an apartment for him in Utako.

    She said that the convict failed to secure the apartment for the complainant but absconded with the cash to an unknown destination, but was later arrested.

    Auhioboh said that effort made to recover the money from the convict after his arrest failed, even though he made a confessional statement admitting to the offences.
    The prosecutor said his actions violated Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

    Woman docked for ‘criminal’ intimidation

    A 33-year-old applicant, Ugochi Amadi, was on Wednesday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged criminal intimidation.

    The defendant, who is standing trial on a three-count charge of mischief, theft and criminal intimidation, resides at Angwan Shahu village, Karmo.

    The prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Perpetual Idu, of same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on August 14.

    She said the complainant alleged that the defendant intentionally used her leg to break her chemist shop glass door, valued at N45, 000, and stole N10, 000 cash.

    “The complainant alleged that she loaned N5, 000 to the defendant and she has refused to repay. Instead the defendant threatened to kill her spiritually the way her elder brother was killed,” Auhioboh said.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 327, 288 and 397 of the Penal Code and punishable under same.

    The defendant denied committing the offences, while the judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted her bail and also ordered her to provide a surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    He adjourned the case till September 9.

    Man to receive six strokes of cane over attempted theft

    A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered the flogging of a 32-year-old Nuhu Ahmed, for an attempted theft.

    The convict, who admitted committing the offence, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying that he was misguided by his friends.

    The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, ordered that Ahmed be given six strokes of the cane, after finding hm guilty of the charge.

    Sadiq, who warned the convict to desist from committing crime in future, added that the court might not be this lenient the next time he appeared before him.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court the accused, a car washer, and who resides at Garki area of FCT, was arraigned on a count charge of attempted theft.

    She alleged that the accused attempted to steal a battery from the complainant, one Lola Ogunsola’s Honda Civic car at Utako Market.

    The prosecutor told the court that the complainant, who resides at Gwarimpa in Abuja, .reported the case at the Utako Police Station.

    She said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.

    Court jails man six months over N7,000 theft

    A Grade 1 Area Court Karmo, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced one Usman Abubakar to six months imprisonment for joint act and extortion.

    Abubakar, a resident of Kado fish market, Abuja was arraigned on a two-count charge.

    The Presiding judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, did not  give  the convict any option of fine.

    Sadiq said he must serve the punishment as deterrent to other would-be offenders and warned him to desist from committing crimes.

    “Be dedicated to your business,” Sadiq told the convict.

    Before the judgement​ was delivered, Abubakar, had pleaded guilty to the charge and prayed the court to temper justice with mercy, claiming that the devil pushed him to the crime.

    He promised to be more dedicated to his fish business.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Florence Auhioboh, told the court that one Ibrahim Buba, of 4th Avenue Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station, on July 28.

    Auhioboh said on that same date in Gwarimpa,  the convict and one other person , who is now at large, attacked and threatened​ to kill him with a long sharp knife.

    They collected N7, 000 cash and one Techno phone valued N20, 000.

    During police investigation, he confessed that his friend who is now at large, is  in possession of the stolen  money.

    The prosecutor said that the offence is punishable under sections 79 and 292 of the Penal Code.
