    Flying Eagles’ Skipper move to Slovenian club

    Nigeria U-20 captain, Daniel Bameyi, has completed a three-year deal with Slovenian top-flight outfit ND Primorje Ajdovščina, signing from Yum-Yum FC Abuja just hours before the summer transfer window closed on Sunday, September 7, 2025. The contract runs until 2028.

    Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s brightest defensive prospects, the 19-year-old joined the club after impressing with his leadership and composure for the Flying Eagles.

    ND Primorje president Bojan Adžić welcomed the signing, describing Bameyi as a player capable of transforming the club’s fortunes.

    “We believe his work ethic and professionalism will have a huge impact. Daniel’s defensive qualities are exactly what we need to strengthen our campaign this season,” Adžić said.

    Head coach Milan Anđelković was equally enthusiastic, stressing that Bameyi’s arrival is central to their defensive rebuild.

    “Daniel’s addition, along with other new signings, will help us stabilize the back line and compete at the highest level,” he noted.

    Bameyi arrived in Slovenia after a productive loan spell with Bayelsa United in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season. He captained the Flying Eagles to a bronze medal finish at the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and played a key role in Nigeria’s WAFU B U-20 Championship triumphs in 2022 and 2024.

    His move to Europe marks a pivotal step in his career, offering him a platform to further sharpen his talent and gain valuable experience on the continental stage.

    Rising star, David Stockbrink ,has showed his worth by netting a  brace in a Flying Eagles’ training match  as they prepare to hoist Nigeria’s flag at the forthcoming FIFA Under 20 World holding  in Chile between September 27 and October 20.

    Born by German father and Nigerian mother who originated from Delta State, Stockbrink was spotted dazzling during the team opening training session being at the FIFA Goal Project Pitch, Abuja.

    The session which lasted several hours, also saw the Dutch based lad mingle with the rest of the squad in order to cement lasting and positive relationship.

    The 18-year-old Fortuna Sittard forward who had earlier missed the 2025 African Youth Championship owing to injury, declared his fitness and readiness ahead of the biannual tourney.

    Having witnessed an intensive training session which saw coach Zubairu splitting the squad into two different part, Stockbrink was able to stamp his name in gold while he positively wait to make the final squad to Chile.

    He said:`“It’s a pleasure for me to join the rest of the squad. The camp spirit has been high, and everyone is here to showcase talent. The tournament isn’t going to be an easy task, and I’m sure that’s why the camp is thrown open for early preparation.

     “I ought to have made my debut earlier at the Africa Youth Championship, but my dream was halted owing to an injury I sustained a few days before the tourney, and I thank God and am back on my feet.”

    “I’m here to play with passion, knowing full well Nigeria is a country where one has to showcase their best in order to be selected. I have all it takes to wear the green and white jersey, and I promise to never let Nigeria down. I’m also using this medium to urge my fans to keep supporting me, for I can’t do it all alone. I’d also love to acknowledge my mother, who hails from Nigeria. It’s a thing of joy for me having an ambition to feature for Nigeria in the forthcoming tournament in Chile, and with the quality players I have seen in camp, I think we’re good to go,” he stated.

    The Young Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire took home the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament trophy after a 1-0 defeat of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles in the competition’s final played in Accra, Ghana.

    The Ivorian boys had an unblemished tournament, winning all their five matches and stamping their authority on each, with a disciplined and dedicated squad that rose to the occasion each time to decimate their opponents.

    Their superiority was not in question as they edged Burkina Faso 2-1 in their first match, conquered Niger Republic and Togo with 1-0 and 2-0 score lines in their other two matches in the group phase, and came from behind to defeat host nation Ghana 2-1 in the semi-finals.

    Seven-time African champions Nigeria turned out a hard nut to crack for the Ivorians in Wednesday’s final, but they finally found a way through when goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt dropped the ball from a free-kick in added time, allowing an alert Zakaria Tindano to poke into the net for the only goal of the encounter.

    Nigeria’s U20 boys, Flying Eagles, have qualified for the Final of the ongoing WAFU B U20 Tournament in Ghana after a tense encounter against their Niger Republic counterparts, culminating in a penalty shootout that ended 4-3 following a scoreless 90 minutes.

    Throughout the match, the Flying Eagles exhibited determination but faced challenges in converting several scoring opportunities. On the other hand, the Nigeriens adopted a strong defensive stance.

    The first half saw the Flying Eagles record three shots off target, while the opponents did not have any sight of the Nigerian goal. In the second half, the Cup holders stepped up their attacking efforts, showcasing robust intent to break through the organized Nigerien defence, which utilized a solid formation with seven players focused on containment.

    With the encounter still goalless after regulation time, the teams moved to a penalty shootout. The Nigerien side saw their first saved by Nigerian goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt. Similarly, Nigerian defender Tahir Maigana missed his kick.

    However, the Flying Eagles displayed resilience and confidence in the shootout, successfully converting four of their penalties while Niger Republic managed to score only two.

    The result means the Flying Eagles are in the Final of the competition, and will confront the winner of the second semi -final, between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, in the Final.

    The Flying Eagles of Nigeria delivered a dominant second-half performance to defeat the Young Cheetahs of Benin Republic 4-1 in their second Group B match at the ongoing WAFU B U20 Boys Cup in Ghana.

    After a tight first half ended 1-1, the Coach Aliyu Zubairu-led side came out firing in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to secure a resounding victory and seal a place in the semifinals.

    Goals from Muhammed Abdullahi, Ezekiel Kpangu, Imrana Muhammed, and Abduljeleel Kamaldeen powered Nigeria to their first win of the tournament, following a 1-1 draw with Ghana in their opening game.

    With four points from two matches, Nigeria now sit comfortably in Group B and await their Semifinal opponents as they continue their quest for regional supremacy.

    The victory underscores the Flying Eagles’ resilience and improvement in the attacking line of the team.

    They are now in a position to go for the title as Nigeria reinforce their status as a strong force in WAFU B region of West Africa.

    The Flying Eagles and Ghana’s Black Satellites stifled one another to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament at Ghana’s Centre of Excellence in Prampram Thursday..

    The Black Satellites took the lead in the 26th  minute, with Captain Musbau Azeez finding the back of the net. Thereafter, the Flying Eagles faced significant pressure from their opponents, resulting in a yellow card issued to their captain, Daniel Bameyi, for a hard tackle in the 33rd  minute.

    Despite increasing pressure from the Flying Eagles in the latter stages of the first period, the Black Satellites took their one-nil advantage into the dressing room at recess.

    Nigeria’s appeal for a penalty in the 66th  minute was dismissed by the referee. Subsequently, a free kick taken by defender Odinaka Okoro in the 76th minute narrowly missed the target, as the Flying Eagles went all out for the leveller

    As the match approached its conclusion, the Flying Eagles intensified their efforts, culminating in a corner kick awarded in the 84th minute. Mohammed Abdulahi scored with an impressive header to ensure a stalemate in the scoreline.

    Nigeria’s next game is against the Young Cheetahs of Benin Republic on Sunday.

    Flying Eagles’ Auwal Ibrahim seals move to Etoile du Sahel

    Despite Nigeria’s Flying Eagles finishing third at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, standout midfielder Auwal Ibrahim has completed a high-profile move to Tunisian powerhouse, Etoile Du Sahel.

    The Nigerian team ended the tournament behind champions Morocco and runners-up South Africa, but Auwal emerged as one of the brightest prospects of the competition.

    Etoile Du Sahel confirmed the signing of the talented midfielder on a five-year contract on Wednesday afternoon.

    Currently part of the Flying Eagles squad competing in the WAFU B Championship in Ghana, Auwal is expected to play a key role for the Ligue 1 side in the upcoming season.

    In a related development ,former Akwa United attacker, Chijioke Alaekwe has officially joined Zambian side Zesco United from the Promise Keepers and has now been unveiled.

    The talented forward scored five goals for the Promise Keepers in the NPFL last season.

    He has signed a two-year deal with the Zambian giants.

    Nigeria’s U20 Boys, Flying Eagles have commenced training sessions in the Ghanaian capital, Accra ahead of the kick-off of this year’s WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament.

    Earlier scheduled to be an expanded tourney involving teams also from the 9-nation WAFU A, organizers have had to revert to the WAFU B-only arrangement, with the Ghanaian capital hosting the competition scheduled for 10th  to 23rd  July.

    Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu has picked captain Daniel Bameyi and 19 other players, with a scoop from the group that finished third at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt two months ago and thus qualified to represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile later this year.

    Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt is a prominent figure from that mosaic, alongside defender Odinaka Okoro, and midfielders Bidemi Amole, Ezekiel Kpangu, Divine Oliseh and Tahir Maigana.

    A number of new birds have birthed, including Bayelsa United goalkeeper Clinton Andy, defenders Abba Sadiq and Marvelous Freedom, midfielder Abduljelil Kamaldeen, and forwards Imrana Muhammad and Qudus Olayiwola.

    Nigeria, winners of the last two editions of the WAFU B U20 Championships (hosted by Niger Republic and Togo respectively), will take on hosts Ghana in the opening match of Group A on Thursday, from 3pm on Thursday, 10th July. Venue is the Prampram Centre in Accra.

    The Flying Eagles will then clash with Benin Republic on Sunday, 13th July in a three-team Group A.

    Zubairu to bolster Flying Eagles’ attack for WAFU B Tourney

    Head Coach Aliyu Zubairu has defined his objectives as Nigeria’s U20 boys, Flying Eagles resumed camping in Abuja ahead of the upcoming WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament to be staged in Ghana.

     “We are taking proactive measures to ensure that the challenges we encountered previously are addressed, squarely. My assistants and I are very much aware of the issues related to the team’s attacking prowess and we are making concerted efforts to rectify the situation.

    “The tournament in Ghana offers us a good window to showcase a few more players and we will grab that opportunity. We intend to use the matches as preparation for the FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile.

    Two-time FIFA World Cup runners-up Nigeria will be among Africa’s four representatives at the 24th  FIFA U20 World Cup finals scheduled for Chile, 27th  September – 19th  October. Others are South Africa, Morocco and Egypt.

    The WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament will take place in Ghana, 10th  – 23rd  July, with the Flying Eagles to play in group A alongside hosts Ghana and Benin Republic. Their first match is against Ghana on 10th July, before they play Benin Republic on 13th  July.

    Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Togo make up group B.

    The Flying Eagles have been drawn in a fair first-round group at this year’s U20 World Cup alongside Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.

    The U20 World Cup to be hosted by Chile will kick off on September 27.

    The Flying Eagles finished third at the 2025 U20 AFCON in Egypt to qualify for Chile 2025.

    Nigeria have reached the championship game of the tournament twice, in 1989 and 2005.

    They got to the quarterfinals at the last competition in 2023 in Argentina.
