    U20 AFCON: Flying Eagles begin title defence  against B’Faso

    Defending champions Flying Eagles of Nigeria will begin the defence of their sub-regional crown on Friday, October 18, 2024, against Burkina Faso.

    The opening Group B match is scheduled for the Municipal Stadium in Lome and it will kick off 3pm local time.

    The Flying Eagles under coach Aliyu Zubairu will then take on Cote d’Ivoire in a final Group B game six days.

    The match will also be played at the Municipal Stadium and kick-off is also 3pm.

    The WAFU B competition will begin on Thursday, October 17, when hosts Togo take on Niger at the Kegue Stadium.

    Ghana and Benin are the other teams in Group A.

    The top two teams will advance to the semifinals of the qualifying competition for next year’s U20 AFCON in South Africa.

    Flying Eagles move to Ikenne ahead of WAFU B Tourney

    Nigeria’s U20 boys, Flying Eagles, will move to Ikenne, Ogun State for a final camping programme ahead of their participation at this year’s WAFU B U20 Championship in Togo.

    The 2023 FIFA World Cup quarter-finalists will camp at the high-grade Remo Sports Institute for a week before departing for Lome, where they tackle Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire in a three-team Group B, in their quest to defend the title they won in Niger Republic two years ago.

    Hosts Togo will battle Ghana, Benin Republic and Niger Republic in Group A of the competition that is scheduled for 17th  – 31st  October.

    The championship in Togo serves as the qualifying tournament for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations, from where the top-placed four teams will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at next year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile.

    The Flying Eagles must be at their best to qualify for the Under 20 AFCON after being paired in the same group with Burkina Faso and Cote ‘d’Ivoire in Group B of the U20 WAFU B competition

    In the draw released yesterday, Nigeria will face the same team that eliminated them in the quarter final of the last Under 20 AFCON, Burkina Faso and perennial rivals, Cote d’Ivoire.

    The record Under 20 African champions will be eager to return to the FIFA Under 20 World Cup for the first time since 2019 in Poland and under new handler, Aliyu Zubairu the Flying Eagles still have a lot of work to do to be rated among the top nations for the crown in the West Africa’s sub region Zone B.

    Host Togo, Ghana, Niger and Benin are placed in group A of the competition.

    The tournament, which will serve as the qualifier for the U20 African Cup of Nations, will take place in Togo next month.

    Flying Eagles: Mighty Jets coach lauds invitation of ex-Man United academical

    Head Coach of Mighty Jets of Jos, Festus Ukpebor, has expressed joy over the invitation of Jahmang Pam to the Flying Eagles team billed to take part in the WAFU B competition next month.

    Ukpebor stated that the talented player who had experience abroad with academy teams of Manchester United and Leeds United  would be a  valuable addition to the Nigerian team

    After his spell abroad, Pam returned to Nigeria and trained with Mighty Jets of Jos team and also participated in friendly matches involving the Plateau based team.

    The coach said: “Jahmang Pam is an abundant talent. He is full of knowledge and intelligence. I am a proud man and happy he is in the Flying Eagles. He will be a great addition because he can play as a central midfield player and can also play from the wings.

     “I am delighted he in in the national camp and I am certain he will be in the final list that will make Nigeria proud in the WAFU B competition.”

    Pam, a talented footballer with a strong passion playing primarily as an attacking midfielder and the left wing. His football journey began in Jos City, Plateau State at the age of 9. He attended the Manchester United Football Schools in Manchester, England where he showcased his skills during his stay.

    The national U-20 team, the Flying Eagles under the tutelage of coach Aliyu Zubairu is currently camping in Abuja in readiness for the WAFU B competition slated for next month.

    Flying Eagles resume camp amid no-pay claims

    The Flying Eagles under newly appointed coach Aliyu Zubairu have resumed training camp in Abuja for a WAFU B U20 AFCON qualifying tournament in Togo next month.

    This comes against the backdrop that the team are yet to receive outstanding allowances and bonuses dating back to the 2022 U20 AFCON qualifiers in Niger.

    It is also understood that former coach Ladan Bosso is also owed a backlog of salaries.

    The Flying Eagles got their preparations for the U20 AFCON qualifiers with a first training Friday.

    The qualifying tournament in Lome, Togo, kicks off on October 17 and it will produce the teams for the U20 AFCON next year.

    The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee for the appointment of  Aliyu Zubairu as Head Coach of the National U20 Boys, Flying Eagles.

    The appointment of Zubairu, who led El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri to win the President Federation Cup at the expense of Abia Warriors FC in Lagos in June, takes immediate effect.

    Zubairu’s immediate task is to put together and prepare a team for the WAFU B U20 Championship, scheduled for October/November in Togo, where the zone’s representative will emerge for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

    Adedeji eyes Flying Eagles’ job

    Switzerland-based Nigerian coach Adedeji Adeyemi Anthony has expressed his desire to be the next Flying Eagles coach.

    Adeyemi  is one of the early birds to respond to the Nigeria Football Federation’s  calls for applications for the vacant coaching position of the National U – 20 men’s football team after he  submitted his application.

    The 41 year old tactician confirmed his interest in the job, adding  he’s best for the job when quizzed by our correspondent.

    ” I am well qualified for the job going by the required paper qualifications, I have UEFA B and many other relevant qualifications,” began the former Stationary Stores player. “My 15-year experience as a football coach and 11 years as a youth development Coach makes me the best fit for the job.

    ” I have been in the business of developing talented players from U-13, U-14, U-15 till U-23 level for the past 11 years, beyond doing my job, transforming budding talents into stars is passion.

    ” I have seen many of them graduate into professional clubs here in Switzerland with many youth trophies won as a team. I understand how to develop, and shape them into a very good footballer,” added the coach  fondly called Triple A.

    The coach shares his vision for the Flying Eagles if selected by the NFF.

    ” My vision is to build a team strong enough to win the FIFA World Men’s U20 World Cup and restore our youth football pride, and to also see many players graduate from playing for U20 into the Super Eagles, this will make the Super Eagles a stronger team due to the bonding and understanding as a result of playing together during their formative years,” he  concludes.

    African Games: Flying Eagles crash out after Senegal defeat

    The Flying Eagles of Nigeria have crashed out of the African Games after another defeat to Senegal in Ghana.

    Flying Eagles were eliminated following a heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Senegal.

    Ladan Bosso’s youngsters showed tremendous character to twice come back against their opponents in Ghana but were ultimately undone by a late penalty that sealed their fate.

    Nigeria’s U-20 team bounced back from their opening day defeat in Ghana with a hard-fought win over South Sudan at the University of Ghana Stadium.

    Yesterday’s defeat condemned Nigeria to the third place and out of contention.

    Flying Eagles to play top friendly matches in Ghana

    The Flying Eagles will play at least two top friendly matches in Ghana ahead of their All Africa Games campaign, officials told SCORENigeria.

    The U20s are due to fly out to Ghana on March 1 and will play the test games before their opening group game on March 7, officials disclosed.

    The Flying Eagles will again be led by coach Ladan Bosso, who is working on taking a team of experienced players like Daniel Daga and Daniel Bameyi as well as a handful of players from last year’s Golden Eaglets.

    The team has been training in Abuja, where they have been playing test games against academies mainly based in Abuja.

    African Games: Flying Eagles, Falconets to resume camp in Abuja 

    Nigeria’s U20 boys, known as Flying Eagles and the U20 girls, Falconets are both set to resume camping in Abuja today  to commence preparations for the 13th  African Games scheduled for the Ghanaian capital, Accra next month.

    Head Coach Isah Ladan Bosso has invited a total of 30 players to the Flying Eagles’ camp, from which a final list will be drawn to fly Nigeria’s flag at the men’s football event, with Nigeria aiming to go one step better after winning the silver medals at the last edition of the Games in Rabat, Morocco in 2019.

    Bosso led the U20 boys to the quarter-finals of last year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Argentina.

    On his part, Falconets’ Head Coach Chris Musa Danjuma, who has led his 2022 World Cup quarter-finalists to earn a ticket to this year’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Colombia, has called up 23 players.

    The invited players to both the men’s and women’s teams have been advised to report at the Agete Luxury Hotel in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja on Thursday, 15th  February 2024.

    Nigeria will play Uganda, South Sudan, Senegal and Tunisia in that order in the group stage of the 13th  African Games (formerly All-Africa Games), while the Falconets will square up to Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon.
