    Dry cleaner docked for sexual assault on minor

    The Police on Tuesday arraigned 57- year-old dry cleaner, Noble Goodluck, in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged sexual assault of a minor.

    The defendant denied committing the offence, while the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies –Abegunde, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    She also ordered the defendant to deposit N50,000 with the Chief Registrar  as part of the bail condition and adjourned the case till February 26 for mention.

    The defendant, a dry cleaner and who resides at Block 1, 401 Road, Gowon Estate, a suburb of Lagos State, is being tried for indecent assault.

    Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed on January 4 at Block 17, Flat 4, Gowon Estate.

    Donny said that the complainant’s mother, Mrs. Iseoluwa Omogiate, dropped her seven- year -old daughter with her neighbour who runs a restaurant.

    “The defendant, whose shop is close to the restaurant, went to eat and saw the child.

    “The defendant called the child to his shop and was fingering her private part when one of the sales girls sighted him and raised an alarm.’’

    Donny said that the defendant was apprehended and handed over to the police.

    He said the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Man accused of raping 13-yr-old remanded in prison

    A 55-year-old man, Mfon Iyang, was on Monday remanded in  Kirikiri prison as he was alleged of raping a teenage girl,  by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies-Abegunde,  refused to  grant the bail application for the accused and ordered his remand in  prison.

    The accused, an auto mechanic, who resides at Fagba, a suburb of Lagos,  is on trial  for rape.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Rachael Donny,  told the court that offence was committed on Jan. 8 at the workshop  of the accused in Fagba, Lagos.

    Donny said that the 13-year-old girl  was sent on an errand to the  workshop by her brother.

    “When the girl got there, she met only the accused and after delivering the message, she was about going when he dragged her inside the workshop.

    “The accused covered her mouth so that her voice would not be heard and raped her,” Donny said.

    Donny added that the girl cried to the house and told the brother what happened.

    “The case was reported at the police station and the accused was arrested,” he said.

    The offence, he added,  contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Davies-Abegunde adjourned the case till  Feb. 14 for hearing on bail application.

    Man in court over alleged sexual assault on 14-year-old girl

    A 38-year-old applicant, Tony Allan, was on Thursday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, over an alleged sexual assault on neighbour’s daughter.

    The defendant who resides at No. 9, Ali St., Olowora, Ogba, a suburb of Lagos, was docked for sexual assault.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed on Oct. 23 at the defendant’s residence.

    Donny said that the defendant lured the 14- year-old neighbour’s daughter into his room on the pretext of sending her on an errand.

    ”The defendant fingered the girl’s private part, until she started bleeding and told her not to tell anyone,’’ he said.

    Donny added that the girl could not bear the pain anymore, so she told her mother and the case was reported at the police station.

    The offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The defendant, however ,pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies – Abegunde, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Davies – Abegunde adjourned the case until Dec. 18 for mention.

    Man in court for raping niece

    A 39- year-old man, Innocent Azamarogbe, was on Wednesday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his niece.

    The accused, a trader, who resides at Block A, Flat 1, Alausa Barracks, Ikeja, is facing a count charge of rape.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Raphael Donny, told the court that the offence was committed sometimes in 2016 and April 2017 at the defendant’s residence.

    Donny said that the victim, a 14-year –old gilr, who is the defendant’s niece stays with him.

    “The accused has been molesting the girl since 2016 but she kept to herself until her mother paid a visit.

    “The girl told her mother what the accused had been doing with her and the woman went to the police station to lodge a complaint.

    “Hence, the accused was arrested,” he said.

    The offence contravened Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Folakemi Davies – Abegunde granted the accused bail in the of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

    Davies-Abegunde adjourned the case until July 31 for Director of Public Prosecution’s advice.
