“As you all know each edition of Street Foodz Naija significantly improves in all aspects, this year’s edition of the food reality show has upgraded and wider in scope, production quality and operation. Our goal of placing African food in a position of prominence on the World Food Map has not changed. Authentic Nigerian street food is potentially going to help Nigeria in terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and promote street tourism because food tourism is the next big thing in Nigeria and across the country just like Afrobeats and Nollywood.”

Food Quest makes debut on FoodBay TV

FoodbayTv, an African food platform, has launched Food Quest to reintroduce African foods that are on the verge of extinction to youths.

The first-of-its-kind show aims at preserving African culture by giving Generation Z an increased opportunity to experiment with various local foods and share their reviews.

The programme will be streamed on multiple digital platforms and hosted by renowned food critic Opeyemi Famaki.

The launch was attended by young people who enjoyed the event.

On the initiative, co-founder of Foodbay TV Oluwafemi Ogundoro said the show aimed at revitalising authentic African culture in the younger generation through local foods.

“Food Bay TV is filled with a lot of Gen Z, and many of them don’t even know the basic things we take for granted. If you’re a millennial or baby boomer, you realise there are certain things we just take for granted that everyone should know. But they don’t know those things as simple as cashew fruits, abacha salad, dambonama, kilishi, or Ikokore because they were born in Lagos or born in Ibadan and they’ve not had the opportunity to travel around the states,” Ogundoro said.

According to him, the African demographic shows that about 65 per cent of the population is under 25, which is Generation Z.

“If more than 50% of our population is Gen Z, and there is no major show that is focused on those guys in terms of food, then Food Bay TV has to be the first to do that again. And that’s exactly what we’re doing, and this would be the first of many other shows that would be developed for this particular target audience,” Ogundoro added.
