    FoodCo staff win quarterly recognition awards

    FoodCo, a Top 5 retailer and operator of the largest supermarket chain brand in South-West Nigeria, outside Lagos, has announced the winners of its Staff Recognition Awards. Held quarterly, the awards are geared towards recognizing outstanding job performance and incentivizing employees to aspire towards exceptional service delivery.

    Speaking on the initiative, Funmi Aiyepeku, Head of Innovation, Growth, and Business Transformation, FoodCo Nigeria, stressed that the awards aim to strengthen the company’s GAME ON Core Values.  GAME ON is an acronym for: Get It Done, Always Develop Others, Make It Better, Excite Our Customers, Operate Together, and Never Cut Corners.

    She said: “At FoodCo, our employees are the driving force behind our success. We prioritize strategic and impactful engagement with them at all levels. Accordingly, the Staff Recognition Awards is one of the expressions of our commitment towards cultivating a workplace environment that engenders growth, empathy and impact for staff.

    “Our ultimate desire is to create an ecosystem that enables our network of over 1000 staff to make the transition from mere employees to leaders in their various roles. Deliberate investment in developing self-led individuals will ultimately translate to having a team of quality staff and greater levels of success for our organisation,” she added.

    The FoodCo Staff Recognition Awards evaluates employees across all the company outlets based on predetermined matrixes including Growth Mindset, Innovation, Continuous Development, Result Drive, amongst others.

    Stephen Olaogun, a staff from the Supply Chain division emerged as the overall winner for the first quarter of 2024. He, alongside five category winners, was presented with a cash prize, recognition certificate, and a commendation letter.

    In furtherance of its corporate social responsibility thrust towards promoting the welfare of women and children, FoodCo Nigeria Limited, a Top 5 retailer and operators of the largest supermarket chain brand in South-West Nigeria, outside Lagos, recently visited some orphanages in Ibadan to mark the International Children’s Day 2024.

    The orphanages visited are: Jesus’ Kids Orphanage, Aduke Oladibo Orphanage, Christian Mission School for the Deaf and Stella Obasanjo Homes.

    The company also donated essential items such as bags of rice, noodles, garri, pastries, snacks, drinks, detergent, toothpaste and other toiletries.

    Speaking on the gesture, Funmi Aiyepeku, Head of Transformation at the company, stated that FoodCo is a community-oriented business and is committed to supporting   initiatives that promote the well-being of members of its communities, particularly children.

    She said: “We are excited to join the global community in celebrating the world’s children. As a company, FoodCo believes that every child deserves equal opportunity to thrive. This has been the motivation behind many of our investments in the most vulnerable children within our communities, including scholarship awards and our annual children’s parties.

    “As we commemorate International Children’s Day 2024, we also reflect on a recent UNICEF report that estimates that there are about 17.5 million orphaned or vulnerable children in Nigeria. This is a staggering statistic that demands collective action from all stakeholders.

    “Based on our experiences as a company that has been deeply rooted in its communities for over four decades, we understand the vital role everyone plays in uplifting our more vulnerable members. In return, we all become beneficiaries in the shared successes of a truly progressive society where everyone is empowered with the right tools to actualise their potential.

    FoodCo lifts host communities with CSR outreach programme

    In line with its commitment towards empowering its host communities, FoodCo, a Top-5 retailer and two-time honouree on the Financial Times’ annual Fastest Growing Companies in Africa ranking, has organised a special outreach program for residents of Idi-Ose and Ojoo communities in Ibadan, Oyo State.

    During the programme, food packages were distributed to residents of the communities.

    According to Funmi Aiyepeku, the company’s Head of Innovation, Growth and Business Transformation, the outreach is a part of the company’s wider Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) thrust designed to cushion the effects of the current inflation on the most impacted population.

    It also aligns with the country’s quest towards attaining the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, which aims to create a world free of hunger by 2030.

    Aiyepeku said: “In over 40 years of operations, we are privileged to have enjoyed a strong affinity with our network of host communities who continue to provide us with a peaceful and secure environment to do business. This relationship has been largely fostered by FoodCo’s CSR thrust which emphasises a win-win approach to community partnerships. This outreach is one of the expressions of that thrust, and we will continue to explore other high-impact channels to deepen mutuality with our communities.”

    Calling on well-meaning stakeholders to key into efforts aimed at reducing hunger among indigent populations in the country, Aiyepeku disclosed that FoodCo will be broadening its interventions across other value chains to offer holistic support for the most impacted.“

    According to UNICEF, over 25 million Nigerian children faced hunger in 2023 and there are genuine concerns that the situation may escalate given the galloping inflation and depleting disposable income of the majority of people in the country.

    “We believe that only a concerted effort from well-meaning stakeholders can effectively combat this threat and we are committed to working alongside local stakeholders to create a future where food security is a sustainable reality for all.“

    “Since inception,  FoodCo has been actively empowering vulnerable communities through education, skills development and access to economic opportunities as well as fostering long-term solutions through community engagement and partnerships and we intend to continue in that direction,” she added.

    Speaking on the Black Friday promo which kicks off from November 24 to December 3, 2023, Aiyepeku disclosed that both walk-in customers and online shoppers would be treated to amazing discounts of up to 15 percent across a wide array of products, including groceries, electronics, toiletries and more.

    She added that select FoodCo stores would also offer complimentary fruit cakes for purchases up to a specified price point.

  • FoodCo fetes Tabitha Orphanage at fun party

    As part of efforts to make the holiday season fun for vulnerable children, FoodCo Nigeria Limited, a diversified consumer goods company with interests in retail, quick service restaurants, manufacturing and entertainment, recently hosted children of Tabitha Home, an orphanage based in Ibadan, Oyo State, to a special party to mark the school break.

    The event, held at FoodCo Ring Road Outlet, Ibadan, had children and officials of the orphanage, as well as FoodCo staff, in attendance.

    Speaking during the party, Tayo Olubiyi, Manager, FoodCo Ring Road Outlet, who represented the company’s CEO-designate, Ade Sun-Basorun, explained that the event was motivated by FoodCo’s Corporate Social Responsibility vision which aims at integrating vulnerable persons, particularly children, into mainstream society.

    She stated: “At the core of the FoodCo value proposition is to build an all-inclusive brand where every individual has opportunity to be their best self and aspire to the best of their potential. That is why we are deeply invested in enriching the lives of vulnerable groups, particularly children, who would otherwise be excluded from mainstream events.”

    “As a family-oriented brand, we know that children look forward to school breaks as it is a time for them to bond with family, visit interesting places and generally have fun. We also realize that for some groups of children, it is life as usual which is why we decided to invite the children of the Tabitha Home Orphanage to our new, ultra-modern outlet in Ring Road where they can meet new people, enjoy a delicious lunch and play the latest video games. It’s just our little way of adding to their holiday experience,” she added.

    While commending the orphanage for its efforts towards providing shelter for the children and catering to their needs, Olubiyi stated that the task of caring for vulnerable children should the collective responsibility of all members of society in order to show the children that they are valued stakeholders in the commonwealth.”

    In her reaction, Febisola Okonkwo, founder, Tabitha Home, commended FoodCo for the gesture, noting that the company has been a long-standing partner to the orphanage.

    She said: “The children and management of Tabitha Home are grateful to FoodCo for its contributions to the wellbeing of the orphanage over the years. We appreciate the efforts put into organizing this special party for the children and believe that the experience will undoubtedly leave them with long lasting memories.”

    In 2018, FoodCo also established the Adegbenga Sun-Basorun Scholarship Scheme targetted at providing financial intervention for one thousand indigent bright children enrolled in public secondary schools in Oyo State.
