    Ogboro returns as Nigerian Polo Federation President

    Foremost  polo aficionado, Francis Ogboro, has  unanimously been  elected for another  term as the President Nigerian Polo Federation (NPF) on the fringe of  the 2024/2025 Jos international polo tournament where six-time champions, Malcomines ruled  the waves yet again.

    Ogboro who  has previously led the polo ruling authority for over  a decade, has pledged to re-double his effort in promoting Nigerian polo within the continent and internationally following his re-election during the Bi-annual Conference of NPF  in Jos last Thursday

    The award-winning polo administrator and patron who  has since received goodwill messages from the world polo ruling body, the Federation of International Polo FIP, The Nigerian Olympic Committee and the Sports Ministry, declared that Nigeria polo is one big family that will continue to put Nigeria in the international limelight.

    He thanked the Nigerian polo family for the confidence reposed in him to lead the federation, and says his relentless crusade of expanding the frontiers of Nigerian polo would be sustained in a way that would truly reflect Nigeria’s status as a power house of African polo.

     “The last few years were a period that started with a lot of questions about the future of NPF and Nigerian polo. Along the way, we became a greater voice in polo and built credibility with our members,” he noted.

    Ogboro would lead the National Executive Committee that include Tanko Ayuba (1st  Vice President), Abdulkarim Jibril (2nd  Vice President) Murtala Laushi (Secretary), Haruna Ningi (Assistant Secretary), Usman Sa’ad (Treasurer) Ahmed Salisu Assistant Treasurer) and Barrister Sambo Shehu (Legal Adviser).

    According to the Chairman of the electoral committee, Gen. Garba (rtd), the duo of Hassan Gashash and Mohammed Baba complete the list of the new executive committee that will run the affairs of the polo ruling body till 2027.

    Meanwhile,  the just concluded  Jos polo fiesta that saw Murtala Laushi and his top firing miners , extend their supremacy to a record   sixth Governor’s Cup title.

    It was a fun-packed sporting showcase that pits Nigeria’s finest and ebullient talents whose enthusiasm for the game thrilled the spectators.

    Other winners of the week-long polo festival that started with a charity event on December 25, 2024 include Crown Polo Resort team winners of Imani Cup, Katsina Aldusar team that emerged NASCO Cup champions and Minna Profile team that clinched the President Cup.

     “It is worthy to note that the game of Polo has for several decades now maintained its pre-eminent position as the leading catalyst for sports, recreation, peace and tourism in Plateau State and Nigeria at large,”, Laushi  who doubles as declared Jos Polo President, stated  in his closing remarks.

    Ogboro, a close friend of the nation’s former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, was once a great force on the social scene. It, therefore, remains a mystery that he has chosen to distance himself from it. Some reports say the businessman has been extremely busy trying to fix the k-leg his business developed sometime last year.

    The last time he made an appearance at a notable social event was at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Yenagoa Polo Club in Bayelsa State in March 2014. Chief Ogoro has recoiled into his shell since then.

    The Ogarra, Edo State-born socialite has not been visible on the social radar in recent times. And while the reason for his obvious absence remains yet uncertain, it is said in some quarters that the multi-millionaire and former close ally of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) has been extremely busy trying to fix a K-leg developed by his business sometime last year.

    His last known appearance at a high profile event was made in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in March this year during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Yenagoa Polo Club. At the said event, he exchanged souvenirs with the governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson. He has since recoiled into his shell.

    The Ogarra, Edo State born fun loving socialite is no longer visible on the social radar. While no concrete reason is yet to be averred for his near zero social activity in recent times, it is said in some quarters that the multi-millionaire and former close ally of ex-head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has been extremely busy trying to fix a K-leg developed by his business sometime last year.
