    Ilaboya to chairman  committee for ASELGON  Award

    The immediate past Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, Hon Frank Ilaboya, has been appointed to chair the maiden edition of the Association of Past Local Government (ASELGON) Award Ceremony billed for August this year.

    The notice of his appointment was conveyed to him by the National Secretary of the body, Hon Sahabo Aliyu Gurun on Easter Saturday

    According to Hon.  Gurun, “your appointment is as a result of your vast knowledge in this area and your contribution to ASELGON as the Chairman, Media & Publicity Committee.”

    Other members of the Committee are Hon. Sabo Bako Sade Vice Chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, Hon. Gonana Kinka,  Hon. Scott Ogbemudia and Hon. Kawu Idris.The Award Committee also includes Hon. Fidelis Odo, Hon. Yomi Ayorinde, Hon. (Mrs) Obi Okoeyim,  and Hon. Garba Adeniyi, Hon. Dance Obama Member, Hon. C N Haruna and Mr. Oladale Ogunsola who will serve as the Secretary

    “The committee,”  according to the President of ASELGON, Hon Albert Asipa, “is to organise the first ever Award Ceremony where state governors who have made significant impacts in their states would be rewarded and honoured for their services to the states”

    He added: “I think we the former local government chairmen are in the best position to spearhead this type of award ceremony because of our grassroots orientation and having worked with these governors over the years.

    “I am very confident that the Frank Ilaboya-led Committee will do a great job, having proven to be very hardworking and creative since he emerged as the Media & Publicity Chairman of ASELGON just a few months ago.”

    The theme of this year’s award is ‘Impactful Governance Recognition Award’ and it will cover two governors from  each of the six geo- political zones of the federation.

    In his response, Hon Ilaboya, who is presently the Executive Director in charge of Sports Development & Marketing in Edo State Sports Commission, thanked the National Executive of ASELGON led by the indefatigable Albert Asipa for the opportunity “to serve this great association once again.”

    “I am excited with this new assignment, having been saddled recently with projecting the image of ASELGON,” stated Ilaboya who is also the  Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Ltd.

    “The good thing about this assignment is that it’s a familiar terrain for me because our organisation, Sportsville,  has been organising one of the most credible sports awards in Nigeria for the past five years.

    “One will surely draw from this experience to ensure ASELGON Award ceremony lives up to the billing as elucidated in our terms of reference.

    “Once again, I thank the President and the entire members of this great body for being entrusted with this unique responsibility.

    “As always, my members and I will do everything possible to deliver an award that everyone will be proud of.” Ilaboya emphasised.

    ASELGON names Ilaboya award committee chair

    Former Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State, Frank Ilaboya, has been appointed Chairman of Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON) maiden award committee.

    The event, scheduled for August, is themed: “Impactful Governance Recognition Award.”

    Notice of the appointment was conveyed to Ilaboya by ASELGON National Secretary Sahabo Gurin over the weekend.

    Gurin said his (Ilaboya’s) choice was due to his ‘’vast knowledge in council administration and contribution to ASELGON as the chairman, Media and Publicity Committee.’’

    Other members of the Award Committee are Sabo Sade (vice-chairman), Oladale Ogunsola (secretary), Abayomi Tella, Gonana Kinka, Scott Ogbemudia and Kawu Idris.

    Others are Fidelis Odo, Yomi Ayorinde, Obiageli Oko-eyim, Dance Obama and C. N. Haruna.  

    The committee, according to ASELGON President, Albert Asipa, “is to organise the first-ever award ceremony where governors who have made significant impacts in their states will be rewarded and honoured for their services to their states.’’

    Two governors, each from the six geopolitical zones of the country, will be pencilled in for the maiden edition of the award.  

    Asipa expressed confidence that the committee would ‘’do a great job because its members are people with proven integrity.’’

    Ilaboya, the executive director in charge of Sports Development and Marketing, Edo State Sports Commission, thanked the national executive of ASELGON for the opportunity “to serve the association once again.’’

    Ilaboya fetes  Green Eagles legend Owolabi @ 70

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sportsville Communication Services Limited, Honourable  Frank Ilaboya, has congratulated erstwhile Green Eagles star , Dr. Felix Akinloye Owolabi,  on the occasion of his 70th  birthday anniversary.

    Owolabi, a key member of the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning  squad on home soil, turned  70  yesterday, November 24th .

    Ilaboya, a one-time chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, and the immediate past Chairman of Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, described Owolabi as an icon and a symbol of resilience in Nigerian football.

    In a release signed by the ace sports administrator, Ilaboya said :“Dr Owolabi will continue to remain a shining light in Nigerian football as well as serve as a role model to the upcoming footballers.

    “Aside his remarkable exploits on the field of play, Owolabi also remains a shining light off the pitch, humble and very unassuming personality.

    “Since I got close to him over a decade ago, I have continued to admire his  unique personality, gentle, humble, but yet firm on issues.

    “His contributions during the Committee we both served to reconcile the much polarised players union last year, will remain invaluable to me. ‘OwoBlow’ as he is fondly called, showed so much energy and eagerness to see the reconciliation through. That is the person we are celebrating today.”

    Ilaboya added: “As you mark another year of God’s blessings, I pray that your path continues to be illuminated with love, joy, and prosperity. May your lines continue to fall in pleasant places as you age gracefully.

    “I am indeed proud and honoured to join millions of Nigerians to celebrate this  living legend and wish him many more glorious years ahead in good health and service to humanity
