  • Freke Umoh thrills Benson Idahosa students

    Gospel Musician, Freke Umoh, has thrilled students of Benson Idahosa University with inspiring songs at the 2019 dedication service organised by the University Management on Monday.

    The service started with a praise and worship session which was followed with an exhortation by the President of Benson Idahosa University, Bishop F.E.B Idahosa.

    The president preached on the theme: “You will see what you believe.”

    In his sermon, he urged staff and students to begin the year by focusing on Christ and remain dedicated to whatever endeavour they commit themselves to.

    This year’s edition had in attendance Christian leaders like Prof. Robert Dode among others who joined to make the event a memorable one.

    While the students danced and rendered praises, Bishop F.E.B. Idahosa, his wife, Rev. Laurie Idahosa, and management staff were not left out as they danced to the rhythms of the song ministration by Freke Umoh and his team, Lifted Hands.

     

  • Uyo stands still for gospel sensation Freke Umoh

    Gospel singer Freke Umoh has held the fourth edition of his annual music festival for Uyo, the NOW Concert, tagged #UyoNOW Concert.

    The annual event which began in 2015 and has held every November is the singer’s ‘gift’ of a nationwide music festival to his native Akwa Ibom State.

    “This project has consistently attracted an increasing number of participants with each edition and although we had to move the concert from the usual weekend Sunday evening to a week-day evening,” said a media release by the projects agency.

    “We still were overwhelmed by the turn-out. Uyo does appreciate the NOW project.”

    The release added that “Beginning with about 8000 worshipers in the first outing, we have had a steady turnout of energetic worshipers packing out the Noah’s Ark Auditorium of Full Life Christian Centre that we meet at.”

    The 2018 edition which was held early November, has as theme ‘Worship Un-convention.’ It had Freke Umoh, Kaydee ‘the Hi-life prophet’ Numbere, Prospa Ochimana, Godfada, Udy Uche, Manuel Music, Murphy Ogbe and Mfon Akintoye with cameo appearances from Mirobed and Davasol.

    Freke Umoh and his team, the Lifted Hands, have had a busy year which began with the first NOW project held outside Uyo – Abuja NOW. It was followed by a release of his single ‘Bend down Select’ followed by another Abuja live concert ‘Access Granted’. In August, the NOW project went international with the Nairobi NOW project in conjunction with the Purpose Centre Church, Kenya. On October 1, ‘The End of This’, a tribute of hope in the future of Nigeria, was released by Freke and his team.

    When asked what his group has for fans going forward, Freke said, “2019 will be explosive. We took a deeper dive this year, but we will take it even further next year.”

  • Kenyans show Freke Umoh love at NairobiNOW Concert

    NAIROBI-BASED The Purpose Centre Church has hosted the first East African edition of Nigerian Gospel singer Freke Umoh’s NOW concert series. According to the combined team of Nigerian and Kenyan organizers, the turn out overtook their target.

    With Freke Umoh on the trip from Nigeria were Kaydee Numbere, the hilife prophet, Precious Emmanuel, Wisdom K and Enkay of the Alabanza concerts. The event was just like the marketers caption it – East-Meets-West of African Worship as some indigenous Kenyan singers also shared the stage with the Nigerian artistes.

    Reacting after the concert, the Kenyans welcomed a repeat of the project, which will include a gospel music workshop to explore both West and East African cultures.

    Freke Umoh’s expedition towards East Africa began in 2017 when he wrote ‘Mungu Wangu’, a worship song in Swahili and co-performed it with Kenyan choir, Voices of Purpose. The song was nominated for the America-based Sauti Awards within weeks of being released under the Best Worship Song category.

    On his return from Nairobi, his team announced that preparations for the annual Uyo edition of his NOW concert in November will slide into advanced mode.

  • Gospel act, Jackson Jones set for US, Europe tours

    Gospel act Jackson Oluwafemi Adiyan is set to go on a US and European tour.

    Adiyan who is popularly known by his stage name, Jackson Jones, is based in the South-South part of the country and has done music for over 20 years.

    With his energetic approach to music earning him the title of ‘Praise Marshal’, Jackson Jones is set to embark on a tour to the United States and some parts of Europe.

    He has shared the stage with top African acts like Sammie Okopso, Frank Edwards, Freke Umoh, Midnight Crew, Preye Odede and Mercy Chinwo.

    Jackson Jones who has African urban and traditional sounds in his songs, currently has an album in view.

    However, he has released three singles and a video. His songs are ‘Praise You Till I Die’, ‘Miracle God’ and ‘Bigger.’

  • Nigerian artiste Freke Umoh gets Sauti Award nomination

    NIGERIAN gospel artist, Freke Umoh, alongside the Kenyan Choir, has been nominated for the US based Sauti Awards, billed to hold in July, in Atlanta, United States.

    The Gospel singer has his song ‘Mungu Wangu’ which featured Voices of Purpose, Kenya, nominated under the category ‘Worship Song of the year’ (South/East/West Africa).

    ‘Mungu Wangu’, which translates as My God in Swahili, was written and performed by Freke Umoh featuring the Kenyan Gospel choir. It was produced and mixed in Port Harcourt, Nigeria by Doron ‘Drobeats’ Clinton while the video was shot in Kenya.

    On its release in July 2017, aficionados of worship music from different parts of Africa began to turn in series of rave reviews for the song. The accolades took on a higher dimension when Trace TV featured Mungu Wangu as gospel starter of the week ahead of American Christian songs, one by Grammy winner Andra Day and another in October 2017.

    America based Sauti Awards acknowledges excellence in African Gospel Music by Africans. In this year’s awards, two leading Nigerian artistes got nominated; Freke Umoh and Ada Ehi.

    Voting for Sauti Awards is ongoing but will be closed on the 22nd of July, 2018.

    Through the last decade and some years Freke Umoh has been known for his songs ‘You Are My God’, ‘Ibagha’, ‘Ayo’ and other fan favourites; his live performances also adding to the affectionate following he enjoys among gospel music fans especially in West Africa.

    In more recent years, however, his music has encountered increasing demand in South and East Africa.
