  • Four die in Gombe blast

    At least four people, including a suicide bomber died in an explosion that occurred at about 7:00pm at Kasuwan Mata area of Gombe metropolis on Tuesday.

    Beside the bomber, an adult and a young male child died before arrival at the Gombe specialist hospital, while another minor died few minutes later.

    At least 21 people were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

    The suicide bomber reportedly glided and fell with his explosive laden motorcycle, causing the blast at a location near the main entrance of Gombe State University.

    Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Gombe State Police Command, Fwaje Atajiri, said the bomber failed in his attempt to unleash mayhem on worshipers at a mosque in Gombe metropolis.

    “The incident happened around ‘Kasuwan Mata’ area of Gombe at few minutes to seven in the evening. He was targeting a mosque but the explosives went off before he could reach his target,” Atajiri stated.

  • Police arrest robbery kingpin in Gombe

    GOMBE State Police Command says it has arrested an armed robbery kingpin who specializes in snatching cars at gunpoint.

    Spokesman for the Command, DSP Fwaje Atajiri said the suspect had been elusive in five neighbouring states before he was caught in Gombe.

    He said that three vehicles (two Golf III cars and a Honda Civic saloon) were recovered from the suspect.

    The PPRO also said an imposter, Ishaya Yila who has been parading himself as a policeman, harassing innocent citizens and policemen alike has also been arrested in the state.

    He said his arrest came as a result of him going to one of their stations to harass and intimidate policemen over securing the release of a suspect connected with miscreants who harass young ladies and dispossess them of their belongings.

    “Because of his attitude, the junior police officers there believe that a senior police officer couldn’t have gone out of his ways to insult a junior one, therefore, they demanded to know him more. And through the interrogation, it was discovered that he was not a policeman.

     

  • Woman’s body found in hotel

    The police in Gombe State have confirmed the discovery of a woman’s body in a hotel, Primary Guest Inn, Sabon Layi, Gombe.

    Police spokesman Fwaje Atajiri said the body had been taken to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital for autopsy.

    Atajiri said contrary to rumours, no part of the body was missing or severed. There was also no injury.

    He said: “The incident happened around Sabon-Layi in Gombe. The area has splinters of hotels; you can’t differentiate between residential houses and hotels.

    “That area is a criminals’ hideout, where anti-social activities take place. We’ll find out whether it’s a hotel or not.”

     

  • Three killed in Gombe

    TWO policemen and a gunman were killed in a gun battle at Kagarawul in Gombe yesterday, the Police Command has said.

    Police spokesman Fwaje Atajiri said they were still investigating to ascertain the number of the gunmen.

    He said his men were on patrol in the area when they were ambushed and shot.

    Atajiri urged residents to report any suspicious movements in their neighbourhood.

  • Police station ‘attackers’ arrested

    Police in Gombe State have arrested seven persons in connection with the attack on Bojude Police Station in Kwami Local Government Area.

    Police spokesman Fwaje Atajiri said: “They were arrested with uniforms, which appeared like the ones worn by those who attacked our men at Bojude.”

    He said the suspects, who are members of an unregistered organisation, were arrested on Sunday at Bojude in an unregistered vehicle.

    He said they were being investigated to ascertain their level of involvement in the Bojude shootout in which four persons, one policeman and three assailants, died.

    The spokesman called on the public to stop aligning with such unregistered organisations.

    He said such organisations could be inimical and clandestine in nature.

     

  • Gunmen attack Gombe police station

    … Four killed

    Four persons, including a police corporal, died when gunmen attacked the Bojude Police Station in Kwami local government area of Gombe State on Tuesday.

    The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Fwaje Atajiri, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gunmen attacked the station at about 2am.

    He said that three of the gunmen were killed while one police corporal also died during gun duel with the hoodlums.

    Atajiri explained that some of the gunmen escaped with bullet wounds while another policeman, who sustained injuries, was treated and discharged.

    He called on health workers in clinics and hospitals in the state to report to the police, any persons with bullet wounds who might visit their facilities for treatment.

    He said that the situation was calm and that more policemen had been deployed to the area.
