Gabriel Afolayan speaks on Omoni Oboli’s new film, Okafor’s Law

Conversations have begun for Omoni Oboli’s new film, Okafor’s Law, with young actor, Gabriel Afolayan, sharing his experience on the set of the movie he described as a very high standard movie.

“This is one of those sets that you would be on and you are glad that you are working. You get to experience a thorough filmmaking process, the breakdown of scenes and shots and the feel of intense lightening. Those are the very important things that most of the filmmakers don’t even get to do sometimes.

Incidentally, expectations are high for the movie, which apart from Omoni Oboli’s acclaimed successes in recent times marks the return of notable Director of Photography (DOP) Yinka Edwards, who was away for further studies abroad. “Having Yinka Edward on set, it couldn’t have been any better, with standard equipment, standard crew in terms of numbers,” Afolayan said further.

He also rated Omoni’s directing skills as being special. “She is special, very special. She knows everything she’s looking for and that’s one thing some Directors don’t know about. She works in line with the vision of what she’s doing. I’m very impressed with her skills and these skills will take her places trust me.”

This is Oboli’s fourth production ever since the actress veered into filmmaking. The new work is coming on the heels of Wives on Strike which is touted as the third most successful Nollywood movie in Cinema ever.

Okafor’s Law is a comedy about a married woman who ran into her past love and had to contend with the legendary Okafor’s Law to save herself and her marriage.

Okafor’s Law is a law which states that if a man sleeps with a woman once, he can always bed the woman again irrespective of new developments like marriage, new boyfriend or break up.

Apart from high quality crew led by Yinka Edward and the revered Set Designer, Pat Nebo, the movie also boasts of actors and actresses of note, including Richard Mofe Damijo, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ufuoma McDermott, Tina Mba, Toyin Aimakhu, Lala Akindoju, Yvonne Jegede, Halima Abubakar, Mary Lazarus, Uche Nnaji, Betty Irabor, Ken Erics and Omoni herself.

Ebola: Kunle, Gabriel Afolayan isolated at Seychelles

Alot has been said or written about the Ebola Virus, which is currently ravaging some parts of Africa.

Consequently, as part of efforts to fight the scourge, some yet-to-be-infested countries have started taking pre-emptive measures. Only recently, Saudi Arabia suspended the issuance of pilgrimage visa and by extension, any flight from West Africa coming into the Arab country.

Following that lead, though in a more subtle manner, the Republic of Seychelles has started screening visitors from West African countries. As a result, top Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Kunle Afolayan and his brother, actor Gabriel Afolayan, came under thorough scrutiny, recently.

According to Afolayan, an award-winning filmmaker, “We landed in the Republic of Seychelles safe and sound. Gabriel and I were isolated from the other Kenyan crew that went we us and we were made to sign plenty forms because we came from West Africa (Ebola region). Gabriel didn’t have his yellow fever card, so he had to do a test the following day and take the result back to the health section of the airport. Thanks to SBC for the rescue and warm welcome,” Kunle stated.

Kunle and his brother are in Seychelles to shoot a movie.
