    Mikel ‘agrees’ to join Galatasaray

    Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has given his word to Turkish champions Galatasaray he wishes to join the team.

    Galatasaray sporting director Bulent Tulun said Mikel has agreed in principle to join them, according to a leading Turkey football website fotomac.

    MTNFootball.com reports that the Nigerian international is expected to replace Brazil star Fillipe Melo, who is on his way to either Brazil or Italy.

    Chelsea returning boss Jose Mourinho and both clubs are expected to decide on this transfer, said Tulun, who met with other top officials this week on the matter.

    Turkish champions Galatasaray has opened talks with Chelsea for Nigeria midfielder Mikel Obi, MTNFootball.com reports.

    Galatasaray sporting director Bulent Tulun is currently in London talking with the top hierarchy of the London club on the acquisition of Mikel.

    The deal is being brokered by Nigeria FIFA agent Babawo Mohammed and Hasan Egilmez and if it goes through, Mikel Obi will join up with his former Chelsea team mate and friend Didier Drogba.

    A source in Turkey told MTNFootball.com that Galatasaray officials want the Nigerian to join their squad.

    “As I speak to you, Galatasaray sporting director Tulun is in London to discuss on signing Mikel Obi from Chelsea this summer, we want to sort out with his club first before we will open discussions with the player,” the source told MTNFootball.com

    One of the agents facilitating the transfer Babawo Mohammed further confirmed Galatasaray’s interest in the Chelsea star to MTNFootball.com

    “Galatasaray officials have shown interest to sign Mikel and I have been informed that they are in London talking with Chelsea about the deal,” Babawo Mohammed told MTNFootball.com

    Galatasaray will have to splash a fortune on Mikel because he has a contract with Chelsea till June 2017.

    The Turkish champions will play in UEFA Champions League next season after retaining the Turkey league ahead of city rivals Fenerbache.

    EMBATTLED Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo was in full action for league runners up Fernabahce Sunday in Instanbul. The most capped Eagles ace who for sometime has been at cross-roads with Coach Stephen Keshi over his non invitation for the last World Cup qualifier against Kenya in Calabar, was so impressive that Coach Aykut Kocaman thought it wise to leave him on the pitch for the entire duration.

    Galatasaray who gannered 68 points in 33 matches posting seven points above Fernabahce shot into the lead via penalty that was converted by Burak Yilmaz in the 25th minute. Yobo and his mates however rallied back with Cameroonian import Pierre Achille Webó scoring two goals in four minutes.

    The former Everton strongman’s performance appears to underline his recent submission that he is currently on top of his game Yobo who initially joined the Turkish side on loan from Everton in 2010, eventually sealed a 3-year permanent deal on August 4th 2012 even as he recently celebrated his 100th appearance for the side.

    Evra returns for Galatasaray

    Manchester United defender Patrice Evra returned to training Tuesday ahead of Champions League tie against Galatasaray on today.

    The French left-back reported for training on Tuesday morning and is now in line to start against the Turkish giants at Old Trafford in their Group H opener.

    Evra missed United’s 4-0 home victory over Wigan Athletic in the Premier League on Saturday with a minor knock he picked up on international duty with France.

    Forward Robin van Persie and playmaker Shinji Kagawa were both in training, along with midfielder Darren Fletcher, who is closing in on a long-awaited comeback from a chronic bowel condition.

    Defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as well as forward Wayne Rooney are out with injuries.
