    • Hospitalised coach Baleria too

Kano Pillars will be without talismanic  forward, Gambo Mohammed, two other players and the club’s chief coach, Kabiru Baleria when they tackle El Kanemi Warriors today in a rescheduled NPFL Match Day 36 tie.

Gambo suffered a knock in Sai Masu Gida’s 1-4 loss to Ikorodu United over a week ago and has been ruled out of the tie with the Borno Army as he only resumed training early this week.

Pillars head coach, Mohammed Babaganaru informed SportingLife that Gambo’s situation is being monitored and that hopefully by weekend he should be fully fit to face Heartland in Owerri if he receives the nod of the medical team to do so.

Babaganaru, however, added that Bala Mohammed and Murtala Ibrahim won’t be available for selection neither today nor the weekend tie in Owerri because they are currently down with malaria fever.

He also confirmed that Pillars’ chief coach, Kabiru Baleria won’t be in the dugout for the tie with El Kanemi Warriors too today because the ex-international turned coach was hospitalised on Monday evening  but that he is getting better.

Babaganaru told SportingLife that Pillars won’t be deterred from picking the three points against El Kanemi Warriors despite the number of absentees and that the remaining players and members of the technical crew have enough experience and materials to cope with the current development.

Former Nigerian champions, Kano Pillars have continued their dominance over Abia Warriors. The Ochendo Warriors have failed to beat Pillar for the last three years in the NPFL.

Both teams have met on five occasions and Kano Pillars have recorded three wins and two draws over Abia Warriors. In 2014 both teams drew in Umuahia while Pillars won by a lone goal in Kano, in 2015 Kano Pillars won both legs (0-1 away, 3-0 at home) and in the 2016 week four NPFL match in Umuahia, they again pulled a barren draw to continue their dominance over Abia Warriors.

Veteran striker, Gambo Mohammed in Umuahia dedicated the point earned to the fans, the Masu Gida sponsor, Kano State government.

“On behalf of my colleagues at Kano Pillars FC I’ll like to dedicate this hard-earned draw with Abia Warriors here at the Umuahia township stadium to Kano State Government, the people of the state and especially to fans of the club around the world. We shall continue to make the club proud both in and off the field,” Gambo told Goal.

The three-time Nigerian champions are sixth on the NPFL log with seven points after four matches and they will host Akwa United who were dumped out of the CAF Confederation Cup last weekend at the Sani Abacha stadium in a week five tie.

CHAN: Dropped Eagles vow to ‘fight back’

Gambo Mohammed, Yinka Adedeji and Mfon Udoh have vowed to fight their way back to the Eagles after they were dropped ahead of CHAN.

Adedeji, who was axed following a hamstring injury, said he was disappointed to miss out but hopes to soon return to the team.

“It’s sad that I have to drop out due to injury but I am happy that I never allowed the past to dwell in my heart and soon I will return,” he told MTNFootball.com.

“I thank Coach Stephen Keshi and other members of the technical crew for giving me this opportunity and I assure them that when next I am called, I won’t fail the team and the nation.”

Pillars striker Gambo also missed the final cut as a result of injury and said he has taken his exclusion in good faith.

“These things do happen and I take it in good faith and I will soon be back. I wish my teammates the best of luck in CHAN,” the Kano Pillars forward declared.

“I have taken my exclusion from CHAN final squad in good faith,” added Mfon Udoh.

“I did my best, but maybe it is not yet my time to represent Nigeria at a tournament.”

The other players dropped were Ikechukwu Azubuike, Ibrahim Pius and Eaglets striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Super Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi has dropped injured Gambo Mohammed and Yinka Adedeji from the 2014 CHAN in South Africa.

The highly-rated Pillars star Gambo, who featured for Nigeria at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, has been nursing a hamstring injury, which has kept him by the sidelines since the Eagles resumed training for CHAN earlier this month.

Sharks left back Adedeji also suffered a hamstring injury at the weekend.

Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Dele Alampasu is also set to be in South Africa as third-choice goalkeeper after FC Taraba goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius was axed, but fellow Eaglet Taiwo Awoniyi missed the cut.

Also dropped was new Enyimba signing Mfom Udoh, who was a late call-up to the Eagles after his goals for Akwa United last season.

It was also gathered that 25 players are now left in the team’s camp and two more players will be shown the exit door before the country’s ‘B’ team flies out to South Africa on January 7.

Nigeria open their 2014 CHAN campaign against Mali on January 11 in Cape Town.

CHAN-bound Super Eagles are still battling for Kano Pillars striker Gambo Mohammed to be fit in time for the continental tournament in South Africa.

The Pillars striker, MTNFootball.com has gathered is still nursing a hamstring injury.

The injury kept him out of the recent Charity Cup clash against Enyimba in Warri and he also did not feature in this week’s Eagles friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Abuja.

Mohammed again did not train with the rest of the squad on Friday as he was put through his paces by the team’s physiotherapist.

Mohammed is one of the established players in the home-based Eagles squad and even featured at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Dele Alampasu could miss out on the CHAN as he is expected to attend the FIFA Awards in Switzerland next month after he and Kelechi Iheanacho received a special invitation to the prestigious event.

Alampasu missed Friday morning’s training so as to be at the embassy for his visa interview.
