  • Aregbesola, Ganduje congratulate governor-elect

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje have congratulated Ekiti State Governor-elect Dr. Kayode Fayemi on his victory at the governorship election held on Saturday July 14.

Hard fought and won battle, says Aregbesola

In a statement made available to the media in Osogbo by his Media Adviser, Mr. Sola Fasure, Aregbesola described the victory of the APC as a “hard fought and won battle that brought liberation to the people of Ekiti State”.

According to the governor, “The victory of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), came after a hard fought and won battle that brought liberation to the good people of Ekiti.

“It is also an indication of the rising popularity of the APC across Nigeria in a swift sweeping of the electoral stakes in the country that began in 2015 and continues till now.

“In spite of the challenges and the formidable opposition, the people of Ekiti stood behind the party and voted for our candidate on Saturday, giving our party a fresh four year mandate to provide leadership and good governance.”

Aregbesola added: “That victory signposts the wrap up of the Southwest by the APC; Ekiti State being the last bastion of the dying PDP dinosaur that has wreaked havoc in the region and Nigeria in general. It is a new dawn of progressivism in the Southwest and an opportunity to re-enact the golden era of Chief Obafemi Awolowo under whose progressive platform the region had unprecedented development, through regional integration and socio-economic cooperation.

“I, therefore, wholeheartedly congratulate Dr. Fayemi, his running mate, the progressive family in Ekiti State and across Nigeria, the leadership and all members of our party that worked hard for this victory.

“On behalf of my family, the government and the good people of Osun, I wish him a fruitful and successful tenure in the service of the people of Ekiti.”

Ganduje: end of politics of rascality

To Ganduje, Fayemi’s victory marked the end of “politics of rascality”.

At a briefing prior to the Executive Council meeting at Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, Ganduje said: “Our victory in the just concluded Ekiti State election marks the end of politics of rascality.

“It is a great victory that attracts celebration. It marks the end of politics of hate speech. It also puts a stop to the mocking of our dear President unnecessarily.

“Our success has beaten under the sun the so-called Reformed-All Progressives Congress (R-APC). Some of them that are on the fence and those that are within but undermining our party are put to shame.”

He derided those collaborating with the enemies of the party and Nigeria to see to the destruction of the party, “simply because our honest President Muhammadu Buhari is effectively fighting corruption for the overall development of our dear nation”.

The APC victory in Ekiti, according to Ganduje, has disappointed those who thought that the party was dying.

The governor insisted: “APC is still very strong and a working party. They are put to shame. So, they need to go back to the drawing board. Simple.”

The victory in Ekiti, according to Ganduje, has disappointed those who thought that APC was a dying party, insisting that, “APC is still very strong and a working party. They are put to shame. So they need to go back to the drawing board. Simple.”
While congratulating President Buhari he also extended similar congratulatory message to APC leadership and other Nigerians, for what he describes as “…emancipating the state from the grip of the PDP, which caused severe underdevelopment to the state.”

  • Ganduje to Kwankwanso: you will lose in your ward

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has said his predecessor, Senator Musa Kwankwaso, will not win in his village in 2019; talk less of defeating President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ganduje was reacting to Kwankwaso’s claim that he can defeat Buhari should the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) give him the ticket in 2019.

He said Kwankwaso’s political structure has been dismantled in Kano so much that he has lost grip of the realities of Kano politics.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, described Kwankwaso as “a political fugitive who does not have the platform, intellectual capability and mental ability to manage Nigeria’s affairs”.

The statement added: “Senator Kwankwaso’s latest utterances have confirmed he is now a confused politician who is grabbing every opportunity to relaunch himself back to relevance.

“For over three years, he has been sleeping at the Senate without sponsoring even a bill that will positively impact the life of Nigerians. This is a clear indication that he has nothing to offer; he is just being boastful.

“For over three years, Kwankwaso has been at the Senate, he has not visited Kano Central, his senatorial district. He has not executed any tangible constituency project for his people. Since then, he has not been around and we have been here in Kano playing the game of politics the way it should be done. The people are appreciating our modest achievements and have expressed confidence in us.

“Senator Kwankwaso’s dream to get the PDP presidential ticket remains a tall one that can never see the light of day because those he is going to meet are familiar with his antics. They have not forgotten in a hurry, the role he played in destroying the same PDP.

“I am surprised that Kwankawso is now talking about people like Ibrahim Shekarau, a man he persecuted and betrayed on many occasions.

“Those who know him will understand that he is overrating himself and cannot be seen as a major contender in the 2019 presidential election. He is a usurper who wants power by all means. Here in Kano, the support for President Buhari and the APC is non-negotiable.”

  • 2019: You will lose election in your ward, Ganduje replies Kwankwaso

Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has  declared that his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will not win election in his own village in 2019, talk less of defeating President Muhammadu  Buhari.

Ganduje who was reacting to Kwankwaso’s claim that he can defeat President Buhari should the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) give him ticket in 2019, said Kwankwaso’s political structure has been squarely dismantled in Kano so much that he has lost grip of the realities of Kano politics.

In a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba and made available to journalists on Sunday, Ganduje described Kwankwaso as, “a political fugitive who does not have the platform, the intellectual capability and mental ability to manage the affairs of Nigeria.”

“Senator Kwankwaso’s latest utterances have confirmed the fact that he is now a confused politician who is grabbing every opportunity to re-launch himself back to relevance.

“For over three years, he has been sleeping at the Senate without sponsoring even a bill that will positively impact on the lives of Nigerians. This is a clear indication that he has nothing to offer. He is just being boastful.

“For over three years, Kwankwaso has been at the Senate, he has not visited Kano Central, his senatorial district. He has not executed any tangible constituency project for his people.

“Since then,  he has not been around and we have been here in Kano playing the game of politics the way it should be done. The good people of Kano are appreciating our modest achievements and they have expressed confidence in us.”

The statement further stated that, “Senator Kwankwaso’s dream to get the PDP presidential ticket remains a tall one that can never see the light of the day because those he is going to meet there are familiar with his antics. They have not forgotten in a hurry, the role he played in destroying the same PDP.

“I am surprised that Kwankawso is now talking about people like Malam Ibrahim Shekarau,  a man he persecuted and betrayed in many occasions. I am surprised he is talking about the PDP,  a party he destroyed and betrayed many of the chieftains who are still there today to pay him back with his own coin.”

Ganduje insisted that Kwankwaso is no longer relevant in Kano politics, pointing out that,  “all his political structure has been completely dismantled.”

“Those who know him will understand that he is overrating himself and cannot be seen as a major contender in the 2019 presidential election. He is a usurper who wants power by all means. Here in Kano, the support for President Buhari and the APC is non-negotiable” Ganduje stated.

  • ‘Ganduje should reduce N17,000 fee imposed on students’

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urged Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to reduce the N17,000 damages imposed on students of Kano State University Of Science And Technology (KUST), Wudil.

The students were mandated to pay the money to cover damages incurred when they protested the demise of their colleague who drowned in River Wudil on May 2.

NANS’ national spokesman, Bestman Okereafor, in a statement yesterday Sunday, said many students were still struggling to pay their school fees.

He said: “NANS is appealing to Governor Ganduje to mandate the school management to review the damages fee for the benefit of innocent students and vulnerable ones still struggling to pay the last session’s registration fee.

“Our findings showed that over 1,000 students still could not afford to pay the registration fees in an institution of about 15,000 students.

“NANS considers the N17,000 damages fee resolution of the Management of Kano State University of Science and Technology as too expensive.”

  • Health minister urges governors to emulate Ganduje

Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole has urged governors to emulate Kaduna State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s exemplary performance in the health sector.

Adewole, who spoke at the launch of seven health interventions at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital, described Ganduje as a trail blazer.

He said: “This is an occasion to appreciate your contributions to health. Among your peers, you are first. With governors like you, my job is made easier.

“Other governors will be calling on us to help them, but the message from Kano is to come and see what we are doing, and I have to publicly thank you.

“I was here to inspect this facility about six months ago and I described it as one of the best I have ever seen in a developing country.

“This facility must be operated on a different platform; it should not be run like other facilities but run by an independent board, where workers must be prepared to work 24-hours without strike.”

Ganduje said the main objective of the N4.5 billion Muhammadu Buhari (MBH) Specialist Hospital is to discourage Nigerians from travelling abroad for medical attention.

“The government’s intention for establishing this hospital is to serve the people and make Kano a medical hub.”

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, hailed Ganduje for his commitment to healthcare delivery.

He said: “We encourage the governor to continue and also encourage every citizen not to leave healthcare to the government. We all have the responsibility to contribute our quota to building hospitals, train doctors and nurses, fund medical expenses for the poor, as well fund medical diagnostic centres.”

“It is high time the politicians be cautioned against promoting hatred or any anything capable of jeopardising peace as an ingredient of social co-existence.”

Ganduje decried the conduct of politicians hell bent on attacking political opponents to smear their names and reputation.

According to him, the present day political class are dangerously playing with words in the media to denigrate the status of their opponent in the eyes of the public.

He said: “Having critically observed what is going on this time, we decided to mobilise leaders of about 53 political parties and sensitise them on the need to avoid politics of condemnation and attack on personalities…”

  • 2019: Kano solid for Buhari, says Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State  said yesterday that the chances of President Muhammadu Buhari in next year’s elections remain formidable as they have always been over the years.

Ganduje told former Abia State governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who visited him in the Government House,Kano, that Buhari has “ never lost election in Kano, even when he was in the opposition.”

“At one time, we were in government, and he was in the opposition, and Buhari won his election here in Kano. Since he started politics in Nigeria, he has not lost election in Kano,” Ganduje said.

“So, this time around, his chances are much higher because before he was in one party and the state government was in another party. But this time around, he is the Mr. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the APC and I am the governor of Kano State and I am in the APC.

“So, you can see all the variables that can make him win election are rightly placed here in Kano. So, we know there is no vacancy for any presidential candidate in the Villa except Buhari.

“For your information,  when Buhari came here for a two-day state visit, we were holding a meeting of stakeholders and we told him that we would take him to court, if he decided not to contest election. And luckily enough, he escaped our litigation. He succumbed to our request and our pledge and he accepted to contest election.

“So, a state that offered that kind of threat and he accepted to contest election is a Buhari state. Secondly, Kano State has the highest number of delegates. We have over 400 delegates for the convention and any primary, so, you can see that Kano is a minimum of three states together.

“So, you can see how important we are. Luckily enough, Buhari is Kano and Kano is Buhari. I think that is the political language here.”

Kalu claimed those  opposing Buhari’s re-election  want Nigeria to return to pre-2015  when treasury looting became the norm.

“They don’t want us to save money for the poor people. There cannot be Christmas and Sallah every day. We don’t have Sallah every day. They have looted enough; they should allow the masses to benefit.

“So, this is why we are here. We will continue to ask you (Ganduje) not to leave President Buhari. He is our President and we are going for four plus four equals to eight. And also for you, four plus four is equal to eight,” Kalu said.

  • Emir of Kano hails Ganduje

The Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has hailed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for accommodating non-indigenes.

The monarch spoke yesterday when the governor visited his palace for iftar.

He said: “We thank the governor for promoting peaceful coexistence among the people irrespective of affiliations.

“Kano State is known for accommodating and respecting other people. That is part of the wisdom behind our development. We are lucky to have you (Ganduje).”

The emir also thanked Ganduje for his fight against drug abuse and urged stakeholders to contribute more towards its total eradication.

Ganduje lauded the Emir for making the iftar an annual event, saying “with this, I am sure our commitment to the development of our society is renewed.

“By the grace of Allah, the state is now more peaceful than before and we are thanking Allah for that.

“We also hail our people for cooperating with security agencies for the peace.”
