  • Ondo APC raises alarm over alleged killings of members

    Ahead of next month general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo state on Monday cried out over spate of killings of members by unknown persons suspected to be cultists in the state.

    At a news conference in Ondo town, the local APC chairman, Pelumi Bernard-Aro said the incident occurred January 20 around 5:30 pm at Akure motor park area.

    According to him, the scene of the attack was very close to the residence of a popular candidate of one of the political parties in the town.

    He said the killings have become a threat to the peaceful co-existence of the people of Ondo town.

    The APC stalwart said no fewer than three young men had been gunned down by these killer-squad operating as cultists.

    Bernard Aro who frowned at the incident said these suspected Killers were seen disembarking from a vehicle suspected to be coming from the campaign flag-off of their party candidate.

    He said, “the character of these killings in recent time can be seen to be politically-motivated, apparently to show supremacy and control over unprotected citizen of Ondo city towards the forthcoming general elections.

    “It is imperative as responsible community leader and party chieftain to alert the public of this unwholesome development and dastardly act with the view to charge the security agent to rise-up and stem the tide of security breach in the community”.

    He urged the state commissioner of police, Gbenga Adeyanju, the Area Commander, Ondo Area Command, the Divisional Police Officers(DPOs) within the command as a matter of urgency to act swiftly to curb the nefarious activities of these killer-cultists before the general elections proper.

    This is to pave way for the electorate in the area to exercise their franchise and support their candidates of choice.

  • Ondo East APC crisis deepens; two injured in bloody clash

     

    The lingering leadership tussle in the Ondo East local government chapter of the All Progressives Congress(APC) has led to a bloody clash between supporters of two rival groups in the local government.

    During the melee, two party supporters were reportedly injured at the Council’s Secretariat, Bolorunduro.

    Already, the executives of the party in the local has petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju and other relevant  security agencies to quickly intervene in the prevailing dispute.

    In the petition made available to ‘The Nation’ and signed by two party executives in the local government,Roseline Okafor and Jimoh Adebayo with two council executives,Alhaji Rabiu Awotunde and Olafisoye Festus,they accused the State APC chairman,Ade Adetimehin of instigating the crisis in the local government.

    They urged the security officers to call Adetimehin with his cohorts especially one kelly Agboola to order to prevent crisis in Ondo East local government

    However, Adetimehin speaking through APC’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro described the allegation as frivolous; stressing that he was not involved in the dispute.

    Adetimehin said as the chairman of the ruling party in the state, he was aware of the rift among some members in the local government, which was being investigated for amicable settlement.

    The petitioners hinged the crisis on the alleged move by Agboola, a supporter of Adetimehin to impose one Isaiah Adejo as the acting chairman of APC in the local government.

    They insisted that the local government party Exco had constitutionally appointed Ibikunle Awolope since August 1,2017 as contained in a letter signed by 14 Exco members.

    According to the petition,there was another contrary letter signed by the APC state secretary on February 16 recognising Adejo as the acting chairman without reference to the August 2017 letter of the local government Exco appointing Awolope as its Acting Chairman.

    “We plead with the Police Commissioner to provide security at the APC secretariat in Bolorunduro to prevent Agboola from taking it over, which can create anarchy in the local government, we are contended with our chairman, Awolope,we are against any imposition through any external influence” The petition stressed.

    The party local government executives also called for the suspension of State Working Committee (SWC) visit to Ondo East pending the resolution of the crisis.

    Adetimehin urged the warring parties in the local government to embrace peace and unite ahead of 2019 polls to guarantee victory for the party in the local government.

    Suspected Coordinator of activities of the Kidnappers in Ondo state, Sunday Omojuba and some members of his gang are now in Police Command.

    Parading the suspects at the Police Command Headquarters in Akure, the state capital, Commissioner of Police ( CP) Gbenga Adeyanju said, Omojuba had been on the wanted list of criminals since 2016.

    According to him, the ‘Chief Kidnapper’ had been linked with several cases of armed robbery and kidnapping in the state for the past four years.

    The CP, however, said some of the kidnapping cases involving Omojuba to include that of one Olanike Agbaye who was kidnapped at gunpoint but was released after the payment of N500,000 ransom by her family members.

    Another victim, he said was one Oluwatimilehin Olatunji, who was kidnapped on April 17, 2016, forcing her family to regain her freedom after paying N100,000.

    He was also behind the abduction of Fanegun Seun, who was kidnapped at Okitipupa, adding that the victim was released after receiving N200,000 from the family.

    Adeyanju said: “detectives of the Special Squad swung into action which also led to the arrest of Godwin Ufoma, Philip Ezekiel, Ayodeji Muyijimi and Adebimpe Nuyujimi.”

    During interrogation, they confessed to having committed the crime, describing Omojuba as their leader.

    Items recovered from Adebimpe Muyijimi according to the CP were three locally made pistols, live cartridges,
     two mock guns, one Nigerian Army cardigan and five live cartridges.

    He said they had been arraigned at the Special magistrate court on June 20, 2016, stressing that Omojuba was later arrested at his residence in Ilutitun on January 4.

    Another armed robbery gang was also intercepted and arrested while blocking the Jowo/ Emure_Ile road to perpetrate criminal act.

    The CP said it was the prompt intervention of the Divisional Police Officer(DPO), Sanni Lasisi (SP)and other four officers that led to the arrest of one Jacob Amos, while three other suspects are now at large.

    Residents of the four local government areas in Akoko area of Ondo State are worried over the security situation in their various communities.

    They urged the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Gbenga Adeyanju, to beef up security in the communities to curb cases of armed robbery and kidnapping.

    Insecurity, according to community leaders is prevalent on Owo-Ikare road that links Abuja, the nation’s capital.

    The Chairman of Akoko Northwest Traditional Council, Oba Yinusa Olanipekun, said the Owo- Ikare-Akunnu- Ikaram road has been invaded by hoodlums who had abducted traditional rulers, religious leaders and others on the same route.

    Oba Olanipekun, who is also the Zaki of Arigidi, urged the new police commissioner to introduce motorised patrol on the road while local government authorities should mobilise vigilante group to complement efforts of the police.

    The monarch pleaded with Adeyanju to deploy more policemen to the zone.

    The Ondo State Police Command has paraded three suspected ritualists for allegedly killing a student of Adeyemi College of Education ( ACE ), Ondo for money ritual.

    The three suspected ritualists are: John Adenitire 20 year-old barber, Abdulrafiu Tijani 30 year-old herbalist and one Alfa Jamiu Kilani.

    The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju said that the ACE murder suspect were arrested by the team of SARS dispatched to Ondo town.

    He also added that the suspects has given the police enough information on how they carry out their evil and disastrous plans.

    Adeyanju who  just assumed duty on Tuesday has declared total war on criminals in the state, solicited the cooperation of the people by giving them adequate information to get rid of every form of crime in the state.

    Speaking with Journalists, Adenitire disclosed that his job was to stay at the road to watch if anyone was coming, saying he was promised N3million by Tijani’s younger brother for the operation.

    He said, “I was at my house when Tijani’s younger brother, Sile came with his friend that they need a girl for money ritual and I told them that what they wanted to do is powerful and Sile said there is no problem.

    “On second day Sile and his friend came to my house when I was smoking Indian hemp at the back of our house and they said we should go and look for girl in which I follow them.

    “On our way going we saw a girl with school bag on her back we took her to bush where Sile and his friend kill the girl while they asked me to be watching if anybody is coming.
    “I don’t know what they took from the girl body that day but on second day I was told that they only cut her left breast and left hand.
    “The two guys said that the person that sent them is a rich man and has promised them N10million and they promise to give me N3millon out of the money for the first operation while I was promised N5,000 for second operations but non of the money was given to me before I was arrested”.

    Also, Tijani the herbalist said that he was promised N1million to help them take the breast and the hand to the person that wanted to use it for the ritual.

    He said, “I am an herbalist and the only specialist on rheumatism and many other things but I don’t know how to do money rituals, I just helped Sile and Adenitire take it to where they wanted to use it”.

    Police arrest three ritualists, 11 others in Ondo

    The Police in Ondo State have arrested three men for allegedly killing a student of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, for money ritual.

    The suspects are: 20 year-old barber, John Adenitire; 30-year-old herbalist, Abdulrafiu Tijani, and Alfa Jamiu Kilani.

    The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju, disclosed this while presenting the suspects to newsmen in Akure on Thursday.

    Adeyanju said the suspects were arrested by a team of Special Anti-Robbery Squad dispatched to Ondo town following a tip-off.

    He said that the suspects were giving relevant information to the police on how they carried out the operation.

    Adeyanju, who said that the command had declared total war on criminals in the state, urged the people to always give adequate information to the police to enable them to rid the state of crime.

    Speaking to newsmen, Adenitire said that his job was to stay on the road to watch if anyone was coming, saying that he was promised N3 million by Tijani’s younger brother.

    “I am a herbalist and specialist on rheumatism and many other things but I don’t know how to do ritual money. I just helped Sile and Adenitire to take it to where they wanted to use it,” Tijani said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police also presented 11 other suspects for various offences such as armed robbery, cultism, murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

    They also displayed a 64-year-old ex-convict driver, Ajibola Aliu (a.k.a Mokan) among the suspects, who had served a 21-year jail term and was granted amnesty at Ilesa Maximum Prison recently.
